Some things I have noticed SEO which showed a positive
-
Hi,
Just a few small things I have noticed which has made a difference in ranking, thought I would share, small things but every little helps.
Looks like more content on a page the better the ranking, in a test I have done this is what I found:
page with 0 content - Google page 11
page with 250 content - Google page 5
page with 500 content - Google page 2
page with 1000 content - Google page 1, position 3
Looks like Google might count the words on a page (like you can do in Microsoft word) and then apply a score against it.
Tweets and likes (78) showed a jump from page 1, position 8, to page 1, position 1 (this was the only form of link building and no changes made apart from adding the share plugin).
Kind of makes me think if your starting a new site or page then add 750 - 1000 words of good content (tutorial or whatever) with a social sharing tool and let this run will give you a better chance of ranking when you start to introduce products and services.

Yes that was what I was thinking. Having said that, it is possible to obscure the theme of the page by adding more text also
-
Yeah it was relevant. So you could say relevance played apart but all of them had relevant content at the same quality.
I'm not saying what im saying is fact just the results I got look like it might be a factor, there is quite a large gap between rankings and it goes in order of number of words.
Guess you could say more words more relevant.
-
But was the content relavant to the keywords?
that could explain if it was building relevance, rather that purly number of words
-
Separate domains using same template with unique content straight out of word.
I didn't look into using the same keyword density as I just typed it up and added keyword terms where they looked natural.
I did add 500 words then a week later another 500 words then it jumped so my mistake there but the others had content added once before indexed and that was the result.
-
Were they randon words or reletive content?
It may be that your page becomes more relevant as you add more content, Matt Cutts suggest you dont need more content to be authoritive.

Archiving System - is it thing of the past?
My IT is convinced that we should build one for our webiste as we have an event page that changes content quite rapidly. It is an expensive implementation process. I googled around and don't see anything. Also everything I've learned about SEO, I've never seen this mentioned anywhere. Not sure where to position myself because of lack of knowledge/information. Anyone has experience or opinions? My natural suggestion would be to have excelling content on static pages that will have strong SERP regardless of archiving and the content that changes, will just keep changing and rank however it will. Or?

Two Companies Merging - Impacts on SEO
Hi there! I work with Company A. They've decided to merge with Company B (who we don't work with/doesn't do SEO) under Company B's name. (We would then work on Company B's website.) What would be the impact on SEO if the content from Company A's website is moved to Company B's website, and Company A's website would be deleted? Factors to consider: Both websites have a domain authority of 6 and a homepage authority of 21, and each has less than 5 backlinks. Company A ranks much better than Company B (of the KWs we're tracking, Company A ranked on Page One for 15.3% of them, while Company B ranked for 2.8% of them). So, what I am asking is: If they do the content migration to Company B's website and get rid of Company A's website, what negative impact would that have on SEO? Could we keep both sites, but change the mentions of Company A on their website to Company B? Although the URL would still be Company A's name, could Company B treat this as a microsite and take up more of the search engine real estate since Company A already has rankings? What would be another solution? The companies merging is definitely happening. Thank you in advance.

URL structure for SEO
Hi Mozzers, I have a site which is a combination of product pages, and news and advice pages that relate to the products. How would you approach the URL structure for this, following SEO best practice? Approach 1 Product pages:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | A_Q
www.website.com/product-category/product-page News and advice pages:
www.website.com/product-category/product-page/news-and-advice-story-1
www.website.com/product-category/product-page/news-and-advice-story-2
etc or Approach 2 Product pages:
www.website.com/product-category/product-page News and advice pages:
www.website.com/news/product-category/news-and advice-story-1 (with internal linking to relevant product page)
www.website.com/news/product-category/news-and advice-story-2 (with internal linking to relevant product page)
etc Or would a different approach be better?0 -

HTML entities and SEO
I recently came across an article on HTML entities that discussed how their appear in search results. The same article also mentioned that their use might be considered spam. Since I know nothing of them (other than what I read in the one article) are they a good or bad idea to make meta descriptions stand out from the crowd?

Adwords Policy and SEO
I have a customer who runs campaigns on adwords and we have had real problems with his ads being taken down due to certain ingredients being present in supplements. Now we move towards his SEO campaign and we wondered if the natural listings are effected by sites that list banned substances or pages listed on the adwords policy as being banned ? Has anyone experienced a site being downgraded by link being present from sites that provided products or services that are banned from being advertised on Google adwords ?
