How is this page ranking so high?

I have been using OSE, and I have come across a few sites that rank within the top 5 for VERY competitive keywords and seem to have NO inbound links to the page.
Am I overlooking something?
For example,
Keyword: floor lamps

The CQS of this page is 72 out of 100! - This is a top quality Bamboo for the Panda.
read more about CQS here (under my comment): http://moz.com/community/q/solve-duplicate-content
What is CQS?
CQS - Content Quality Score product (beta)
What is good content? Well, it is hard to tell. The research study we made found more than 10 factors that can determine the quality of a web page or piece of text. Duplicate content, spell check, recursive writing and readability to mention four. The CQS mark is between zero to 100. We will employ human editors to improve our machine learning system and to verify the score CQS is marking. This is why we need you to try the software and help us to make the word (no typo here) better. In the lab, we are now developing a theme checker, Google’s semantically comprehensive wording, content "mood" signals, writer accreditation and social signals of any provided content.

Anytime you want to answer the question "why does this page rank" use the SERP analysis tool - this tool is PHENOMENAL and provides dozens of metrics for Google results. You have to run "full report" of which you get 50 a month. Then you have to know how to read the metrics to make a good analysis. Rand wrote a good post on the tool here.
Just looking at the OSE data may not be enough. This report is much more comprehensive.

You are correct and I misswrote. The dashboard shows 1 linking root domain, however the attributes section of moz shows 6 external links. I'm not sure why the discrepancy. The root domain shows 1.5 million links from 1,500 domains. Keep reading these threads and you'll see the multitude of factors that play a role in SERPs.

Thanks for your input!
-
On OSE, I don't see the 6 external followed page links!
-
You're overlooking:
1. The site is 15 years old
2. The word lamps in the url
3. 6100+ internal page links
4. 6 external followed page links (according to moz dashboard)
5. Page authority of 40
6. mozrank of 4.1
7. moztrust 6
8. domain authority 65
I'm sure there's more, but the day is over and I gotta stop at the store for my wife on the way home!

Localized SERP Rankings - Multiple Questions...
The Google SERPs for my keywords are pretty regional. We are in the "IT Support Company" space. I've checked with friends in other parts of the country, and we don't show up in the SERPs in other parts of the country for KWs that we are ranking for locally. Questions: 1. I see both national and local players showing up in the SERPs. Is there any kind of formula for how Google decides who gets on the first page? 2. Some of my keywords trigger Google+ listings. How long does it take to show up in Google+, assuming we're optimized appropriately, and we have earned a placement? 3. For Moz's keyword ranking tool, how does it handle regional searches? Moz's tool is going to show different KW rankings than what I will see. My immediate concerns are rankings in my area (NY Metro), but we want to go national. How do we track rankings in different areas? 4. Is it possible to be on the 1st page with Google+ and Organic listings? 5. Do the Google+ 7 packs have generally better, or worse CTRs than similarly placed organic listings?

Comparing 3 sites and their ranks
I am looking at 3 sites and what they have going for them and why they are ranking how they are. I would like to get some of your feedback on why certain sites are above other ones. One of these sites is a client of mine, I will not point out which one. The other 2 are just competitors. http://www.cornhole-game.org/cornhole-bags.html http://www.samscornholebags.com/ http://www.ajjcornhole.com/cornhole-bags.php I have compared them in OSE and they have PA of 39, 29, and 58 respectively. AJJ has a ton of links, many of which are spammy and irrelevant. It looks like a link package was bought at some point. The other two have a similar number of links but www.cornhole-game.org/cornhole-bags.html has more anchor text themed links. None of which seem to be overly optimized. http://www.samscornholebags.com/ seems to have a lot of company branded anchor text links compared to keyword links. http://www.ajjcornhole.com/cornhole-bags.php as I said obviously bought links and has a ton of stuffed keyword links on poor sites http://www.ajjcornhole.com/cornhole-bags.php has minimal social shares http://www.cornhole-game.org/cornhole-bags.html has about 30 shares http://www.samscornholebags.com/ has about 30 shares but a good number of likes and some other social signals. All 3 sites have an A grade using the on page grade tool here on this site. All 3 got dinged for keyword stuffing. http://www.samscornholebags.com/ ranks the highest with the least amount of links and PA http://www.ajjcornhole.com/cornhole-bags.php ranks next with a really poor link profile and the least amount of social activity http://www.cornhole-game.org/cornhole-bags.html ranks the lowest with anchor text links that are not spammed and some social activity So with all of this in mind, would anybody care to weigh in on why they think any of these sites are ranking where they are in comparison to one another.

How on earth is this site ranking so highly?
I'm trying (& struggling) to rank for the keyword property in italy. Yet in the past 5 weeks I've seen this site -- betterpropertyitaly (dot) com -- rocket from about #30 to #2 for the keyword and am trying to figure out why. The obvious is that it's in the domain name, but that can't be the be-all-and-end-all, surely? It's a 2 yr 9 mth old site, so why the sudden spurt? I look in Open Site Explorer and the metrics look pretty weak: Domain Authority: 17 Page Authority: 29 Linking Root Domains: 9 Absolutely zero social shares. Good luck to him and all -- but I'm trying to figure out what he's doing right and I'm not. My site apart, he's beating some pretty big-hitters.

Webby Rank Tracker That Works
So now that the Moz's rank tracker is down for maintenance, I'm seeking a new Webby rank tacker that WORKS! I need a platform that: is Online. Updates you daily on your client's ranking progress. Notifies you on critical ranking drops. Please don't offer LA's Rank Tracker as in my opinion it's the worst one.

Any Tool for Tracking Domain / Page Authority Growth?
Is there any tool available in the market where there is a ranking list of fastest growth in Domain and Page Authority? I launched a job site 8 months ago and I am curious to see what % of websites (not just job specific) have experienced faster growth in a similar time frame in Domain and Page Authority to get a sense of what may have been accomplished. thank you very much,

Blogging just to manipulate rankings?
Hi, I have been playing with Open Site Explorer for a while and have been trying to figure out how some of our competitors could rank with "not so great" articles. I don't want to sound harsh here but some of the articles outranking us are nothing but 6 images + 200-225 words from a press release and a Video. How exactly does Google justify this by ranking them higher than a 1500 word unique article that has been written in no less than 7 days? According to OpenSite Explorer, about the two pages compared, the difference is the number of LINKS. The sad part is, without 1 exception, all their links are coming from blog pages like *.wordpress.com *.typepad.com etc. I would have been just FINE if their links were NATURAL. You may ask me why I assume those blogs are created by them. Because every single post on those blogs are pointing to their domain... I don't think a normal blogger would keep pointing to the same domain. So what are we supposed to do here? Wait 3 months so people discover our articles and natural links will come? (It happens sometimes but then it may not...) Do what they do? Sorry about the ranting but I have one question if you don't want to read the rant. Is blogging to build links, considered black hat or not?
