Can Anyone Explain Ranking Drop?!?
-
Good Morning,
I'm hoping someone out there can try and help me figure out what has caused my site to drop from #6 to #10 to #14 and now #19 for my main keyword.. ( My Site is : http://goo.gl/JgK1e )
I am convinced that my site has the best/most unique content in this niche. Every other site uses the same manufacturer descriptions and info and i have added text to certain pages to try and give them more unique content.
I believe that my site is very easy to use and navigate, and should be considered a great user experience...
Any guidance or help would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks

Thanks, i will look into fixing these issues immediately.
appreciate your help..

I was refereing to the largest peice of text in grey. what text is left is very thin. much of it the same.
There are many pages that do have the same title of description, for example 224 page habvbe this description
"Plastic Storage Bins has the lowest prices on Plastic Bins, Plastic Containers
and Wire Shelving Units with shelf bins or stacking bins. 888-999-6099"As for un-necessary redirects
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-storage-specials.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-storage-specials".
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable".
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/wire-shelving.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://plasticstorage.com/wire-shelving".
The link to "http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable/quantum.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to http://plasticstorage.com/plastic-bins-stackable/quantum.
I assume you want friendly urls, but if you have internal links to the old urls, you will get un-necessary redirects, each one losing link juice.
I use the Bing SEO Toolkit that sees exactly what Bing sees, it sees 3868 of them each one leaking link juice.

I can't tell you why it is dropping, but here are my observations as a small business webmaster--not an seo pro.
I liked the overall ease of finding the products and the look of your site for the type of product you offer.
When I use the On Page Optimization tool for our website, I've noticed that it takes a while to see improvements in rankings--several weeks.
I see that this is a work in progress. If you continue to add descriptive unique content, you should see results in the long term. The pages where you have added descriptive text look good, but many of the individual product pages are bare bones.
In the Medical Carts section, I couldn't get to any of the products.
I looked at the Page Speed and there are a few things you could do to help improve it in the long term.
You can do this as you work on individual pages. One trick I use when I use Page Speed is to copy the Page Speed results for a page into Notepad. Seeing the scores helps you know where to make changes. Here is a sample from one page:
Enable compression
[Score: 84/100]Enable Keep-Alive
[Score: 6/100]Leverage browser caching
[Score: 0/100]Serve resources from a consistent URL
[Score: 0/100]Combine images into CSS sprites
[Score: 40/100]Minify JavaScript
[Score: 5/100]Avoid bad requests
[Score: 100/100]Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help...
/catalog/product/view/id/1003/s/q...
/catalog/product/view/id/3387/s/w...
You say those two pages (above) have the same text... No they don't... The breadcrumbs appear the same (that is an error which we are trying to fix) but the titles, descriptions, pictures and text are all unique to the specific product you are viewing...
You also have over 3800 un-necessary redirects, each one leaking link juice. -- Can you please give me an example or two? My SeoMoz crawl shows 1 301 redirect and 0 302's... please provide something so i can see what you mean...
Thanks for spending the time to help me out...

I had a look at a few pages and i am not convinved that they have unique content. these 2 pages for example are not very unique, they both have the same text,
/catalog/product/view/id/1003/s/qus993/category/58/
/catalog/product/view/id/3387/s/wr54-1236c/category/58/
I can’t tell you why your rankings have dropped maybe Google has found a load of doggy links and dismissed them, I don’t know.
But I can tell you have a lot of problems in your site that are not helping your rankings. You also have over 3800 un-necessary redirects, each one leaking link juice. I say un-necessary because the links are internal links and you could point then at the correct destination and avoid the redirect and the leak. An example.
The link to " /plastic-storage-specials.html" has resulted in HTTP redirection to " /plastic-storage-specials".You have many pages with contains a large amount of script code.
http://thatsit.com.au/seo/reports/violation/the-page-contains-a-large-amount-of-script-codeYou have 25 css pages excluded by robots.txt, it is my belief that search engines do not like this, you could be hiding content with css, it does not help them trust your site.
You have many pages with duplicate titles or description .
There are various other problems but these look like your main ones

I guess you're all having trouble seeing any errors that would cause this type of drop (as am I)...
I followed all of SEOMOZ's on page advice (and have a grade of A through SEOMOZ), created backlinks through their list or directories, use their link aquisition tool to get more places to link and put highly unique, valuable content on the pages and my rank is still dropping...Help

Need help on declining page rank
Hi Guys,
On-Page Optimization | | Slideuplift123
We had a consistent page ranking for a specific keyword between 5 and 8 positions on google. This week all of a sudden the page which was ranking for that keyword no longer ranks for it and another page has started ranking for that keyword that too at 20th position. I am so confused why has this happened? I didn't do any changes to that page or to the now ranking page. Can anyone help why could this be happening?0 -
Rankings dropped overnight
We have been doing some optimization for a client. They were not ranked for many keywords before we started, and up until last week 10 were on page 1, with the the last few following closely behind. Everything was moving in the right direction. In this weeks ranking report every one has dropped significantly and some 30 places in one week. We have made no significant changes to the site in the last few weeks. The only issue we picked up on was the slow site speed on their current host 1&1. Any ideas what could have caused the site to have lost ground on all rankings so significantly?

301 Redirect and SEO Rankings
I recently restructured my webpage URL's (about 300 ~ 75% of my total website) to make the URL paths more SEO friendly. Within a few hours of restructuring the pages, I did a 301 redirect to my old URL's and pointed them to the new pages. I have seen ~ 50% drop in organic traffic. I started the restructuring exercise 14 days ago and finished it a few hours back. I have 3 questions: How long will it take for me to recover my old traffic. Will I recover most of it or some of it? Due to a glitch in the specified path, some old URL's were wrongly redirected (this happened with 9 pages to be exact). I will explain exactly what happened: www.redirct.com/superseonow1 ---- redirected to ---- www.redirectnow.com/seonow1 **/superseonow was 301 redirected to /seonow. After 3 days I realize that /superseonow1 was actually /supernow1. The same thing happened to 9 pages - /superseonow2, /superseonow3 ..... ** I have removed all the wrong redirects. When I tried to enter the correct (old) paths now and 301 redirect them to the new paths, the page was not found using the old paths. Should I redirect the old paths to the New ones even now? 3. Finally, in how much time after you change the page structure should you use the 301 redirect. Since I had two different teams working on this job, there could have been up to a 24 hour gap between the redirection.

Does a phone number in the title tag hurt your rankings in SERP?
Hi Mozzers, One of my client is a carpet cleaner and I was wondering if adding a phone number into the title tags would hurt our rankings . I am asking because the client has mentioned it and that we do have some space to add a phone number into the tag. Thanks

Should we consider redirecting a high ranking subdomain page to our homepage?
My site bluecotton.com sells custom printed t-shirts. Our DA is 46. Our homepage is PA 55. The design studio is where users create their designs. Over the years the design studio has received a lot of fan fair including links from gizmodo and adobe. When I rank against our biggest competitors customink, ooshirts, uberprints.com I find that our domain as a whole doesn't look all that great. However, when I look at the history of our subdomain I see that we are more trusted and credible than all of our competitors. We have 10k links pointing to the design studio. Here is my question. What if I did 301 redirect of bluecotton.com/studio.html to bluecotton.com? Then I created a new url for the DS. This would not cause users any problems. In fact for many they would get more context around what we are trying to do and what we offer. Is this crazy? I never find results in google for the design studio. It always shows our home. That is pretty much what happens to all of our competitors on the higher traffic terms that are driving real sales. So why do i ask? If my subdomain is more valuable becuase of the design studio links then I wonder if I redirected it to the homepage if it would supercharge my homepage and propel is forward in the serps. Thoughts?

Can I place H1 tag anywhere on page
Hello, For those of you who use Magento you will know it is not SEO friendly. When you create a category or product, the name of the product or category then becomes the H1 tag. We sell mens business shirts. For example we have a product called 'White poplin classic fit' this is also the H1 tag, nobody is ever going to search for that term so I have had my developer create a new attribute that allows me to keep the product name as it is and let's me create a new SEO friendly H1 tag, for example 'White business shirt' However, placing 'White business shirt' on the page to be visible by the visitor does not look good on the page. My question is. Can I place the H1 tag anywhere on the page? I have some tabs like below. I am thinking of add a tab in between delivery and returns called more info and placing more seo keywords including the H1 tag in this tab. Will this be OK or will this be seen as black hat technique?
