Has anyone used facebook to promote their website
-
Hi i have seen lots of facebook pages that are being used to promote a company and would like to know if anyone is using facebook or any other social network such as myspace to promote their website without having to pay a fee.
I would love to see some examples and learn how to set up a facebook page that is there to promote a website.
What i would like to do is to have one that promotes my travel website where i can post travel stories on facebook and promote my website and also drive traffic to my website from facebook.
any help would be great

i have opened a facebook account but i think i have done it wrong. i think i have opened a business account which according to what i have just read on facebook does not give me many features which include the search bar and it also says that it is hard for people to find me.
here is my page https://www.facebook.com/pages/In2town-holiday-magazine/298905640155110?sk=wall
which way should i have done this to attract visitors to my page and be able to promote while still being able to get people to find me if they are searching for holiday news

no i am not saying that joseph, i am saying that i want to use facebook to increase the brand awareness and post news on there so people will then go to my main site and read the rest of the news article.

There is no charge for creating a business page or any other type of organisation page: Start here
Are you saying that you plan to use Facebook as your main website? That is all well and good but I would question whether you will gain much traffic via the search engines where you will be competing with websites that will have a lot more control over content for SEO. Your best method for gathering traffic on a Facebook page will be through effective engagement with the Facebook community... you might find that difficult if you are not familiar with how Facebook works - I would recommend reading a guide first.

what is the best way to set it up without facebook saying hold on a minute this is a commercial site we want paying.
when i have looked at this when you sign up to facebook it wants a human name so how do sites such as this site http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001816305285 manage to have the name weight loss
what i want without paying is for people to search and find my page on facebook and know it is about travel

I've help a couple of my clients to set this up. It's a double edged sword because if they dont stay on top of it and keep it up to date, the Facebook page looks like old news and will give a negatove slant towards reputation management for them. If they do work at it though, they can benefit assuming that anyone on Facebook cares a damn about their products or services. I have a client who repairs boilers. He's #1 in Google for all his terms but nobody cares about boiler repair on Facebook.
If you can:
- tell a funny story related to your business
- share a related video that will amuse people (perhaps even go vial) - say something relevant to what people are doing (at xmass for easter etc)
then it can help. People who read something amusing or captivating on Facebook are far more likely to check out a link to the site owners web page. It just needs some real effort and proper thought. The odd post saying something uninteresting just wont help. In which case, its a waste of energy IMHO.

I Use them 100%, but The 5-star review system is archaic
The 5-star review system is archaic. Let me first say that 5-star reviews are a successful part of my eCommerce strategy and also everyone I know that is successful as well. Why are they out of date? When you look at something with a total of 400 four-stars reviws on Amazon, what does that tell you? Almost nothing if you don't read why it was not 5 stars. It could be something Amazon automatically fixes and you don't care about. Thus it's 5 stars. It could be an issue you really care about. It's now more like 3 stars or the real 4 stars. Different products have different types of things that cause less stars, not always obvious, good, or bad. Thus I propose a new system, one that you can read the rating and know what it means. It's called 3-Levels 5-Stars. It would vary per industry. For shoes it would be, like: Walking Shoe Sold Online 1. Matches Fantasy of Style I want: 1-5 2. Logistics Like cost and if it was broken on arrival: 1-5 3. Usability, Usefulness, Durability: 1-5 The goal is for 80% of the people to not have to look any farther than the three-level five-star system. Otherwise, everybody has to read every four-star review to know for sure what's up with that product. Same with 3 stars. 4 and a half stars. Just expand the little 5-star thing the world's got going to include three categories. You could also have a variation statistic for those that don't know that 4 reviews isn't a big enough set not to have variation in outcome, but that's only an extra addition.

CPA for Facebook Advertising
I'm just wanting to find out more if I can set a CPA strategy for Facebook advertising and re-targeting. An acquisition for us would be when someone reaches our thank you page. This indicates a successful conversion on our site. Are we able to set a Facebook strategy where payment is only made for advertising upon reaching that page (and achieving that conversion)?

Good idea to include links in Facebook posts teaser-text?
Hi guys, I'm wondering; is it a good idea (for the engines primaliry) to include links with targeted keywords in facebook posts. From a user perspective I would say it's not desirable. But I'm wondering how Google and co treat links which they find there. They are nofollowed, yes. They are indexed however but when I want google to show me the text-only version of the cached page I receive an 404 error which is odd. Anybody else getting the 404 from google? Eg. clicking on this cache-URL: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jsC_26QVKbgJ:www.facebook.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661+site:facebook.com/echoonline&cd=3&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de&client=firefox-a and then on "text only" leads to this page which does not exist: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661?_fb_noscript=1 Looking forward to your ideas on this topic.

Facebook Comments | Massive Overall Increase in Rankings! Anybody else experience this?
Last week I implemented Facebook Comments and Addthis to my site. Rankings went up for nearly all my keywords. I have people from Africa, Europe and USA asking questions. Every time someone comments, it is shared on their Facebook Wall. I want to know if anybody has experienced this besides me? Here's my site if you want to see it in action.

Dud facebook likes / fake profiles.
I've seen a few companies pop up offering 'facebook likes' for sale. I'm assuming these are all dud accounts that are subject to get deleted in a second if facebook catches on. Anyone else have something to add?
