Google Places phone number question
-
Hi,
A hotel/resort has a main phone number of 1-234-567-8901. This phone number is consistent in over 50 directories.
However, they have a spa and restaurant with the same phone number. The front-desk answers the phone and routes the call to either the restaurant or spa.
The name of the spa and restaurant are also found in the local listing directories under different DBA's with the same phone number as the Hotel/Resort.
For example:
ABC Resort - 1-234-567-8901
Spa Cuts - 1-234-567-8901 (same address as ABC Resort)
The Spa - 1-234-567-8901 ) same address as ABC Resort)
Will this phone number that is used by the 3 separate entities penalize the Google listing placements for the actual Hotel/Resort in Google Places?
Thanks everyone!

Thanks to everyone that answered, it looks like I will have to go back through the directories and correct both the spa and cuts. OUCH LOL
Thanks again!

Hi HawkTV1,
Thanks for coming to Q&A to ask your question. I'm the Local SEO Associate here in the forum. Situations like yours can be very confusing for the business owner, so I do empathize. In thinking your question over, I believe that this part of Google Places Quality Guidelines may apply to your resort:
Some businesses may be located within a mall or a container store, which is a store that contains another business. If your business is within a container store or mall, and you'd like to include this information in your listing, specify the container store in parentheses in the business name field. For example, Starbucks (inside Safeway).
If you want the three businesses to be treated as 3 separate entries, and to be eligible for 3 distinct Place Pages when the are all inside the same building, you will need to get:
1. a suite number
2. a unique, non-redirecting local area code phone number
for the other 2 businesses. Then, if desired, you could have the business titles read along the lines of:
Spa Cuts (inside ABC Resort)
This should be a correct way of doing things. However, if you have the restaurant and spa listed in 50 other directories with an address and phone number that doesn't match the new address and phone number you would be assigning to the two businesses, you are likely to run into a serious problem. Google may become 'confused' about the validity of the information you've provided.
This being the case, your task would also include going to each of those listings and adding the new suite # to the addresses and editing the phone number. Big job! But it can be done.
Good luck!

I need to first clarify: your title is Google Places phone number question. The body of your question says: **This phone number is consistent in over 50 directories. **
So, if you are asking if having that number in other directories (Not in Places) for the Spa and for Spa Cuts, will cause the listing in Places to be "penalized," no it won't. BUT if someone goes in and reports that there is a problem with the site and shows Google these identical numbers, Google could potentially take you down until it is resolved.
I am assuming you do not have Places pages that are verified for the Spa and for Spa Cuts. If you do and the numbers are the same, I am shocked. Google will usually catch that.
My suggestion is that if at all possible get new numbers for the other two businesses and have them roll into the Hotel number. If someone calls the "old" or hotel number, they still arrive as they did before. If they call the new number they still arrive as before, but if there is a verification PIN on them, when it comes through the new number Google will have the new number listed. Either way, you are ok. Ultimately, you have three Google Places addresses which can' t be too bad.

NAP (name adress phone) is a strong factor. This is new for me, but I think the power to show 3 results when the user search for the adress...
I'm sorry, my aproach is to use 3 phone numbers and 3 diferent names...

Page disappeared from Google index. Google cache shows page is being redirected.
My URL is: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/converse Hi. The week before last, my top Converse page went missing from the Google index. When I "fetch as Googlebot" I am able to get the page and "submit" it to the index. I have done this several times and still cannot get the page to show up. When I look at the Google cache of the page, it comes up with a different page. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/converse shows: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/pop-in-olivia-kim Back story: As far as I know we have never redirected the Converse page to the Pop-In page. However the reverse may be true. We ran a Converse based Pop-In campaign but that used the Converse page and not the regular Pop-In page. Though the page comes back with a 200 status, it looks like Google thinks the page is being redirected. We were ranking #4 for "converse" - monthly searches = 550,000. My SEO traffic for the page has tanked since it has gone missing. Any help would be much appreciated. Stephan

Google webmaster showing 0 indexed, yet I can see them all them Google search?
I can see them all the pages showing up in Google when i search for my site. But in webmaster tools under the sitemaps section in the indexed pages - the red bar is showing 0 indexed pages, even though they seem to be indexed. Any idea why is this showing like this? I don’t really think it’s that important as the pages are still indexed, but it just seems odd. Please see in the image.

Influencing Google Instant Preview
Hello there! I have been looking at how our articles are shown in Google Instant Previews. While the description in the SERPs picks up the first paragraph from the article from the main table/div body, the Instant Preview highlights a text ad in the top right of the side column. According to Google https://sites.google.com/site/webmasterhelpforum/en/faq-instant-previews Q: How can I influence the text highlighted in the preview image?
Technical SEO | | CleverPhD
A: The highlighted text is automatically chosen based on the user's search query. Only text that is visible on the page can be selected for highlighting. Google is highlighting the same block of text from an ad space over and over again. "Download our Free Guide ...." vs the first paragraph in the article. Any ideas folks?0 -

Will google let me do this
Hi i am working on my site at the moment www.in2town.co.uk and i am adding new sections and was thinking about buying domain names that best describe that section and which people would remember. so for example i am looking at adding a tenerife magazine to my site and would like to know if it would be wise to buy a domain name for example tenerife magazine and then have it directed to the section of my site. would this benefit my site in any way and would google allow this. instead of having in2town.co.uk and then tenerife magazine after it, sorry cannot find the slash as i am on a spanish keyborad at the moment, i would like to have something like tenerifemagazine.co..uk etc If anyone can give me advice on this then that would be great. also can anyone let me know if this is a wise idea or not, to have sub domain names on my main site. i would like to know if i had tenerifemagazine under the in2town domain name would it slow the site down or should i consider building a brand new site just for that and then making people aware that it comes under the in2town umbrella many thanks
