Facebook, Google Plus - What to share/like?
-
Hi everybody!
We are planning to offer an incentive to all our customers who interact with us on social media websites. What's the most important thing to ask from a customer?
Facebook
- to like our Facebook business page or to like our own website through Facebook?
- to just follow us on Facebook or to actually comment / interact on our wall?
Google +
- to +1, share, add to circle our Google+ business webpage or to +1 or share our own website?
So basically what do we need to promote most? Our Facebook / Google+ business pages or our own website through social media marketing? While we understand it's important to actually interact with the customers and offer value on social media websites, we are looking to boost our SEO efforts.
Thank you!

Thanks Robert!

Thanks, that's the plan

Are you saying you are not using "Likes" and "shares" at all?
_"Will lobbying take over SEO and SERP's? Just like Washington politics, will the bigger and deeper pockets wield the influence" . _
I'm not into politics, I'm just trying to rank my website.

"We are planning to offer an incentive to all our customers who interact with us on social media websites"
Echo1 - I'm not knocking what you (or anyone else does regarding this) but this begs the question: How come Google doesn't like paid links, but lends credibility to solicited and incentivised "likes" and "pluses?"
Will lobbying take over SEO and SERP's? Just like Washington politics, will the bigger and deeper pockets wield the influence?
Google is inviting us to play by these rules (sorry for the soapbox moment).

If you're sole focus is on SEO and not necessarily on SMM, I agree with Robert, you probably want to spend more time on Google+. Rand just posted a blog post talking about the changes Google is making to the SERPs and why it's important to have a Google+ strategy: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-every-marketer-now-needs-a-google-strategy. I'd definitely check out the post and associated video.
When it comes to Facebook, be sure that you read the promotions guidelines: http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php.
Personally though, while social is definitely an aspect of SEO now, it really does need to be considered as a whole strategy on it's own as well. If you're going to start using social sites, make sure you're dedicated to working on them and managing them.
Hope this helps!
Jen

Based on what we know currently about Google +1, I would have to say that it is much more important right this moment than Facebook. I would ask the customer to +1 you by simply having the bookmark/icon on the pages of the site. For your promotion, I would ask them to add you to their circles.
There was an article on Wired by Tim Carmody on Wired: http://bit.ly/wki28I a few days ago talking about how Google's +1 is essentially a real estate grab. Whether or not you agree with that statement, it appears based on all I have read that +1 is about being able to have yourself in more places on Google which helps you.
When you look at Cyrus Shepard's post of a week ago regarding how Google + is using SEO to steal search from Facebook and Twitter (A must read in my opinion) it is obvious that people are more likely to see something when searching on Google if it is in Google + versus Facebook.
No, haven't tested it out yet, but from all I see Google is after everything. Time will tell, but for today I would go with Google + if I could only spend in one area.

Really, what are the benefits of creating a Google Brand page for an e-commerce site?
We have a jewellery store client who already have a Google My Business page set up for its store front business. Should we also create a Google Brand page for its e-commerce site (which has a different business name to the jewellery store)? This client already has a pretty robust Facebook profile. Is it worth it maintaining a Brand page then - since it targets Google plus users?

Facebook name change error
I keep getting "The Page name you entered does not meet our guidelines. Please review our Page name policies." My name change is well within policy. The page has about 400 fans. I am literally changing a minor aspect. Getting rid of a plural word. Any work around since facebook's site is not working for this?

Is it a good idea to participate in review / giveaway bloggers
Hi, I sell Gift Baskets for children and the best customers are Moms. Is it a good idea to participate in review / giveaway mom bloggers? The way it works I give the blogger a product to review. They write their true experience with the Gift Basket and they link to my site Then we do a few product giveaway to moms / (bloggers subscriber) once a month. Then moms will review the winning products. To participate in drawing moms will visit my site, follow my tweeter. Like or dislike me on Facebook……. For each action they do they will get one extra chance on drawing. In here I will get few links to different page of the site. Are these links are good links? I am not paying cash to buy the link. But I give them product to review and they get to keep it. Simply Sassy Media at http://simplysassymedia.com/ is a good example. they manage and connect me to a lot of the blogger sites.

Is Google having trouble determining between two of my brand sites
I have a couple brand sites that our company uses and a couple of weeks ago one started to suddenly show up in the #1 position while searching for the other site via its brand. If I search for "collegexpress" our other site careersandcolleges.com is in the #1 possition. If I search for "collegexpress.com" it shows carrersandcolleges.com's title and description but links to www.collegexpress.com Could I have something messed up or is google confused with our two sites? In the past I am told that CollegeXpress referred to the careersandcolleges.com page but that has been there for many many years and this SERP change only started to show the first week in march of this year. I looked and there are a handfull of anchor text links from external sites using some form of the "CollegeXpress" brand linking to www.careersandcolleges.com but not that many, and they are not new. If I do a search the other way for "careersandcolleges" I see it correctly return is own site #1 but www.collegexpress.com is shown to me as #3. I checked and we dont have any redirects or mod rewrites between the two sites. They are on two different IPs Any help that can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We are a franchise with over 80 locations. We have bulk uploaded all our places pages and all but 15 of them have been approved...this was over 2 months ago!!! Any idea why the final 15 will not stop "Pending Review"?? Google has been no help!(of course) It seems the information is correct across Yelp! CitySearch, and Yahoo Local... Any ideas?
