What are the top web design agencies?
-
I have a big client who is looking to have some design work done on their websites. Really just redoing them essentially. They were asking me who the top web design companies in the country are. Anyone have any suggestions? Who are the most renown agencies?
-
Second goal would be to improve conversions.
I would begin here as this is the bottom line. You want the best you can afford on this job.
Ryan recommends SiteTuners. I have used them and they are very good. They will take one of your pages and give you back a proposed new design (for that page) that you can test.... and tweak as they provide guidance. Then when you have a kickass conversion rate then build the rest of your site design around it.
Their work will probably include input on aesthetics... so I would not have someone expensive design a new site and then hear SiteTuners tell you it sucks.
-
Any list of the top CRO firms will likely include SiteTuners.
If I was asked to perform this work, I would involve multiple people in the process:
First, SiteTuners to gather all the CRO details.
Second, a graphic designer to provide the PSD for the site based on SiteTurners recommendations and the client's wishes.
Third, a developer experienced in the particular platform your client uses. The developer would perform the code cleanup, the PSD to HTML coding, and make the site mobile friendly.
The skillsets involved for each type of work is very different. The best results will likely be achieved by different companies. You may be able to find a single company which is "pretty good" at all three, but these would not likely by "the top" at any of them, or certainly not all of them.
-
Number one goal is to improve aesthetics so that the site is easier to understand and navigate.
Second goal would be to improve conversions.
Third goal would be to clean up the old code currently being used, some of which is hampering their SEO efforts (hidden text, multiple h1 tags, etc.)
Fourth goal would be to make sure the site is mobile friendly as well.
So no change to the shopping cart or anything like that, just a cosmetic redesign to improve user experience overall.
-
To clarify, you are looking for a cosmetic redesign? A new PSD to be created for the site?
What are the goals of the redesign? Improve conversion rate and other metrics?
-
The website will not be changing technology on the backend, just the design aspect. It is ecommerce and sells fitness equipment. Strictly from a design standpoint, and keeping in mind it is an ecommerce site selling fitness equipment, who might be the top web design companies in this area?
-
That is sort of like asking who makes the best shoe. We need more information. Men's shoe? Women's shoe? Running shoe? Dress shoe? etc etc
For your client's website, is it an e-commerce site? a directory? a blog? etc.
What technology is currently in use? PHP? .NET? etc. Is the client looking to keep the same technology? Or are they open to a change?
What are the high level requirements?
If your client wanted to know who they top cell phone providers are, the answer is easy. For the US it's AT&T and Verizon Wireless, with Sprint and T-Mobile as a distant # 3 & 4. For website design the field is wide open. You are likely to receive a long and varied list of responses.

Trying to rank on top 3 in Google.co.uk for a moderate competitive keyword by having a .dk domain
Do you think I should switch my domain to a .com and use ccTLDs method for my other international domains ? The problem is that my .dk domain(norwell.dk) has a better SEO ranking that my .com domain (norwelloutdoorfitness.com) and also differs slightly in name. The primary keyword I want to rank is ' outdoor fitness' which is in the name of 'norwelloutdoorfitness.com', thus over the long-term providing better benefits. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Andrei

Lots of Listing Pages with Thin Content on Real Estate Web Site-Best to Set them to No-Index?
Greetings Moz Community: As a commercial real estate broker in Manhattan I run a web site with over 600 pages. Basically the pages are organized in the following categories: 1. Neighborhoods (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/neighborhoods/midtown-manhattan) 25 PAGES Low bounce rate 2. Types of Space (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/commercial-space/loft-space)
Web Design | | Kingalan1
15 PAGES Low bounce rate. 3. Blog (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/blog/how-long-does-leasing-process-take
30 PAGES Medium/high bounce rate 4. Services (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/brokerage-services/relocate-to-new-office-space) High bounce rate
3 PAGES 5. About Us (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/about-us/what-we-do
4 PAGES High bounce rate 6. Listings (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings/305-fifth-avenue-office-suite-1340sf)
300 PAGES High bounce rate (65%), thin content 7. Buildings (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/928-broadway
300 PAGES Very high bounce rate (exceeding 75%) Most of the listing pages do not have more than 100 words. My SEO firm is advising me to set them "No-Index, Follow". They believe the thin content could be hurting me. Is this an acceptable strategy? I am concerned that when Google detects 300 pages set to "No-Follow" they could interpret this as the site seeking to hide something and penalize us. Also, the building pages have a low click thru rate. Would it make sense to set them to "No-Follow" as well? Basically, would it increase authority in Google's eyes if we set pages that have thin content and/or low click thru rates to "No-Follow"? Any harm in doing this for about half the pages on the site? I might add that while I don't suffer from any manual penalty volume has gone down substantially in the last month. We upgraded the site in early June and somehow 175 pages were submitted to Google that should not have been indexed. A removal request has been made for those pages. Prior to that we were hit by Panda in April 2012 with search volume dropping from about 7,000 per month to 3,000 per month. Volume had increased back to 4,500 by April this year only to start tanking again. It was down to 3,600 in June. About 30 toxic links were removed in late April and a disavow file was submitted with Google in late April for removal of links from 80 toxic domains. Thanks in advance for your responses!! Alan0 -
Should i not use hyphens in web page titles? Google Penalty for hyphens?
all the page titles in my site have hyphens between the words like this: http://texas.com/texas-plumbers.html I have seen tests where hyphenated domain names ranked lower than non hyphenated domain names. Does this mean my pages are being penalized for hyphens or is this only in the domain that it is penalized? If I create new pages should I not use hyphens in the page titles when there are two or more words in the title? If I changed all my page titles to eliminate the hyphens, I would lose all my rankings correct? My site is 12 years old and if I changed all these titles I'm guessing that each page would be thrown in the google sandbox for several months, is this true? Thanks mozzers!

Finding a good wordpress web developer for SEO fixes
I have gotten a good audit done of my site now it is time to get the fixes done. I have a developer I worked with for a long time that is good at coding and fixes on my site. However I am not confident in his abilities to execute some of the seo changes that need to be done. Their are some common stuff he can tackle but when it comes to GWT and proper handling of 404's and 301's and other seo tasks I am not sure if he is the right choice.Maybe due to a lack of experience of dealing with the issues I have or is just not his specialty or web devs just don't know seo...lol.... Is obvious a lot of SEO's don't make the changes themselves but leave it up to the devs to handle it their suggestions and fixes. But from my experience devs are not so well versed in seo and you have a hard time knowing if they are doing it correct or can even do it.(of course they will say they can they want your cash and i understand that ). In particular a good amount of wordpress devs claim to know seo but i find that far from the truth.Even when guided to issues some of them will often leave you disappointed. Sorry for my rant! Now to my question , obviously not many SEO's make the actual code changes themselves (how i wish i knew a one that did) are their ones out their that do? If not how do i find a good wordpress dev that can make proper seo changes and knows his stuff....example i need someone who can trouble shoot and track down some serious GWT I have and deal with some hardcore 404 & 301 issues . A lot claim to know but when push comes to shove I have been left disappointed. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions or recommendations.
