Pictures Gallery
-
Hello,
I am at building a travel web site where I want to add a 'cool' way for the user to display the pictures (instead of simply listing the picture and scrolling). But when I look on the web for methods to create a pictures gallery, I can see that there is many ways to do that.
From an SEO stand point, which method would be the best? JQuery, AJAX, etc. Or what I should not use if it is easier.
As for the link, beside the loading page issue, Is there a limit of images I should include in a page?
Any advice on what should I use or not use to create an SEO oriented images gallery.
Thanks !

Thanks a lot Robert ! Indeed I use a CMS, Wordpress.
But you know, what? I have not even considered using a Wordpress plugin for that!!! So thanks to you ! I have just look on wordpress web site and there are many plugins that could allow me to add a gallery to my web site.
Since I need to add the plugin inside my custom template, I will try to see which one will fit my need the best.
'insure they are geo tagged and consider a way of using Schema as this will put you in the forefront.'
I am not sure of what you mean about the geo tagged ... could you give me more information?
Thanks again !!

** I want to add a 'cool' way for the user to display the pictures **
So, you want a method for site visitors or customers to display their travel pics?
If so, the first question is how are you building the site? Are you using a CMS (content management system) like WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal, etc.? Are you having it built online by one of the canned website companies?
If you are using a CMS, I would suggest going to the plugins for that particular CMS and seeing what is available (WP has PhotoSmash, etc - Joomla has RS Gallery 2). Note that you need to research this a bit and be clear on what you want or don't want.
As to the SEO stand point, there are various ways you can work with JQuery, AJAX and still maintain SEO (I won't go into each as that would be a bit). You need to decide on one and then follow up with questions around it. (JQuery slider and maintaining seo for example.) I think if you use a CMS, you will find a good solution that is SEO friendly.
As to the images and amount per page, etc. here is what I would say. First, travel site: try to categorize the images by geography. Make sure each image has a way to put in alt text and give the user a good description of what it is, why they need it, and how to develop good alt text. So a given page would be travels to Costa Rica - this allows users to post pics from their recent trip there. By keeping it geo located, you will keep your keywords around Travel and Costa Rica. (You could sub into Diving, Volcanoe exploring, Rain Forests, etc.
You can then have good title tag, url, H1, H2 meta descrip, etc. With your images try to insure they are geo tagged and consider a way of using Schema as this will put you in the forefront.
Hope this helps you out,
Edit: Nancy I totally forgot to put in that you should also have a mechanism for GeoTagging by the user as that will be huge in a travel site. Let us know how it works out.

My visibility went from 14% to 3.33% this week. HTTPS Change?
So I am trying to figure out how my google rankings dropped from 3 to 9 This past week. Could it be the new HTTPS security issue? My site was created in HTTP not HTTPS. Is this an easy fix? Can I hire someone on this site to fix this?

Payment Options in Footer
Hi Moz Community. I'm currently working on cleaning up a website footer on an e-commerce site. I was curious to find out if including payment options is important? Either text or image icons. Including Visa, AMEX etc. Are there benefits of displaying them? Image attached. Thanks vcdoL

Organization name as text vs. as a picture with alt text + Schema.org markup
I'm looking for some feedback to implement best practice for the markup of our header/navigation at the top of our site. Our organization name and a tag line is at the top of every page on the left, then our logo, then our navigation to items like "Topics" "FAQs" "About us" etc is to the right along the top. Our organization name includes the most frequently searched keyword for what we want to rank on, and our organization name is our domain name. A couple other background items: we're a non-profit startup and no code is public yet -- hence, I'll be explaining what we're going for. We're coding in straight html/css, not using Wordpress or anything like that. When we originally DIY coded our draft homepage and a few landing pages, we put the organization name and tag line into the markup as text, to look like this: Organization name | Pretty | Navigation items over here

Explanatory fun tag line | Cool |
--------------------------------------- | Logo | --------------------------------------------------------- Then we outsourced the markup of two more landing pages to a company that does on-demand orders for responsive markup, based on png's we sent of the designs. The company's code renders a fabulous looking version of our design, and important for usability, it is responsive. The company also did something else I'm not so sure of. They made one big image out of our organization name, tag line and logo ... because? The indenting and different font sizes of the Organization name and tag line was too hard to code in? Or is it just best practice for html standards, SEO, etc. to make it one big logo?? Now, as part of an overall effort I'm working on to reconcile our different code ... I'm mulling right now specifically on reconciling the different approaches we each took and incorporating new best practices for the header ... based on what I'm reading online about headers, including debates about whether to use h1 for your company name, whether using an image for the name is fine, advice about including Schema.org markup for logos, etc. Given all this, which of these two options look better to you? Do they seem equally good to you? What would you change about the one that looks better to you? What do I have wrong in them? Or would you code this entirely differently to hit all best practices? What do you think about using h1 for organization name vs. is there a better tag to use for the organization name to code it in as text? (Note: we have other h1's on our pages for the actual article/content titles of each page, which maybe we should, maybe we shouldn't be having those as h1's?) Option 1 -- using text for our name and tag line: <header id="top" class="brandfont brandcolor">
[# Organization name Explanatory fun tag line](/) Organization name logo {navigation code here}
</header> Option 2 -- name, tag line and logo all as one big png image: <header id="header" class="container"> Organization name tag line {navigation code here}
</header>1 -
Tips for Panda-Proofing an Image Gallery
I'm currently working on a website that has a video, image and media gallery with over 9,000 items. The gallery can be found here:
Web Design | | Peter264
http://flyawaysimulation.com/images/16/microsoft-flight-simulator-x/ Every image has a page of its own. Therefore, essentially 9,000 pages of very thin content, especially the image pages with no UGC comments. Does anyone here have any tips to "panda-proof" these pages? The images still need to be indexed. What can we do here? The site also hosts videos, which of course the page the video resides on needs to stay in the index too (like youtube). Example of the video page here: http://flyawaysimulation.com/images/media/9371/fsps-3d-real-cockpit-effect-for-fsx/ Really want to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!0 -
