Domain buying

hello Mozzers - a bit shout out to all of you.
Question -
I have a 3 keyword, and the domain is available - the only thing is it has a hyphen
example: black-book-covers.com
Is it worth getting this domain? There is a fair amount of traffic to this domain.
Thank you all - we love you,
Best,
Vijay

As somebody who knows a bit about seo when I see a site ranking with a multi keyword hyphen domain I normally click the next result. Exact match hypen domains are usually made by people who are trying to out rank their competitors and know that Google gives some weight for keywords in the domain.
There is buzz going around that less emphasis is going to be placed on domains like this in the future but who knows how long. Either way, in my opinion it looks spammy and unprofessional however you will probably have no problem ranking it

Vjay, Happy to help.

check conversion-rate-experts.com. They are one of the most reputed companies out there and they rank for almost all terms related to conversion rate optimization. That should give you an idea that you should not worry too much about URL's

Hi Vijay
We've been dealing in domains for nearly 10 years now and we have never noticed a difference in the ranking ability.
For some reason the hyphenated domains do seem to have a lower resale value on the aftermarket but if you plan is to develop it rather than investment, i'd go for it.
All the best

Vijay,
You will find two schools of thought here and rather than giving any reasons (more readable, versus Google doesn't like them, etc) for this, I will tell you that domains with hyphens are fine. We use them with client sites regularly and they rank just as well as those without.
Good Luck.

Domains and Domain Authority
Looking for some advice 🙂 I have a domain that has been registered since 1999 and currently hosts my website - the problem is that my business has moved in a different direction and my URL is no longer associated with my main product offering. For example in the past I was xyzgarden.com however now something like xyzhomedecor.com is much more appropriate. How should I handle this so that I am not at a disadvantage for SEO. thanks!

Nice Domain Authority but Not Ranking
Hi, A client of mine who owns a website reached out to me. He got penalized a while ago and has long since recovered (not sure exactly, but for sure a year). His domain authority is in the upper 30s but is still not ranking for many of his keywords that he ranked on the first page. I am not so familiar with the technical aspects of penalties and such, but is this a common scenario? Why is his domain authority great but his ranking downright awful? Does he have a chance if he builds great links, or is something else wrong that we can't figure out?

Mobile friendly - Sub domain after responsive?
My client has a mobile website (m.website.com) and is working on a responsive website. The site is already labeled "Mobile friendly" on the SERP and I was wondering if, when the site will be responsive, it would be worth it to redirect the subdomain or it would be safer to keep the subdomain and still redirect mobile users to it since we're already Mobile friendly (we would keep the rel alternate on the main domain and the rel canonical on mobile).

Guidelines for a second website business domain
Hi There, A client is setting up a second website selling the same products from a separate domain with the same descriptions etc. The site will have a separate URL, but will administered from the same CMS. The only difference is the new site has only one brand instead of several on the main site. E.G The main site sells all plumbing brands, the second site just one brand. Your thoughts and advice for best practise would be much appreciated. Andy (Marz Ventures)

How do i know if my domain has given penalty by Google and why?
I have problems with my website to google search results. Some of the important keywords frequently and sharply rankings vary a lot lately. For example; 07-14-2012 Term1 Position #12 07-20-2012 Term1 Position #38 07-24-2012 Term1 Position #10 07-26-2012 Term1 Position #40 I wonder what is the cause of this incident? Is there any Penalties? If there is then how do i know this?

Domain advice needed, please
Could i get a little domain advice please. Launching a new website project and want to put it on a domain we already own (both domains are in the same niche as the larger project). The new project will be aimed at the UK market. The choice is: .co.uk we own with a good name, however it's Domain Authority rank is 7 and it's only about 8 months old. .com domain which is 6 years old, has a Domain Authority rank of 33 but is not as good a domain name. The Competitive Link Analysis tells me that the rivals for the keywords we would be targeting are between 24 and 42. Which domain would people go with? All things equal it would be a fair guess that the older, higher Domain Authority ranked .com will require less work to rank in the engines, however it's not as good brand wise. Thanks Carl
