TLD domain rediversion
-
Hello,
I have got a .co.uk version of my domain which is parked with godaddy and I want to divert it to the .com version which is the live site.
At the moment the .co.uk version is showing a godaddy landing page.
My setup is: Godaddy as domain registrar, domain.com host separate hosting company.
I looked into godaddy panel and I guess I have two options.
-
(which I have done as a quick fix), I have done the diversion within godaddy panel to the .com version. It simply asked for which domain I wanted to forward the .co.uk to, and I have entered the .com version.
-
I can create the .co.uk domain within my shared hosting and repoint to the .com within the hosting company DNS settings, and have godaddy simply point to the hosting company nameservers instead.
Are the two solutions above equivalent or is one better than others ? Esp. from an SEO point of view? If someone has technical expertise to explain, this would be great. I think it would also help other companies in the same situation.
Thanks !

Hi There
Yes there are differences between the two options you've described.
- If you simply want to redirect one domain to the other and nothing more, then Option 1 does the trick, quick & simple.
- If you require services such as email forwarding from the .co.uk to the .com or wish to have further control of the .co.uk from your .com hosting, then Option 2 is the better one to go for.
I hope that helps,
Regards
Simon

Using Sub Domains For Back Linking
Hey Guys! I'm building links for my page and happened upon the "Hoth" link building page. I tried it out and it built some no follow links and some links on several sub domains. I know that, when back linking via guest posting, no follow links do not juice my site. My question is, does building links on a subdomain from another company juice my site? If it's not helpful, could you explain why? Does it juice my site in any way? If you could link sources, I would really appreciate it. Also, do any of you have input on Hoth or platforms like it? Are they worth it? Thank you!

Duplicate content : domain alias issue
Hello there ! Let's say my client has 2 webshops  (that exists since long time, so many backlinks & good authority on both) : individuals.nl : for individuals  (has 200 backlinks, let's say) pros.nl : exact same products, exact same content, but with a different branding intended to professionnals  (has 100 backlinks, let's say) So, both websites are 99% identical and it has to remain like that !!! Obviously, this creates duplicate content issues. Goal :  I want "individuals.nl" to get all ranking value (while "pros.nl" should remain accessible through direct access & appear on it's own brand queries). Solution ? Implement canonical tags on "pros**.nl**" that goes to "individuals.nl". That way, "individuals.nl" will get all ranking value, while "pros.nl" will still be reachable through direct access. However, "individuals.nl" will then replace "pros.nl" from SERP in the long-term. The only thing I want is to keep "pros.nl" visible for its own brand queries  ->  it won't be possible through organic search result, so, I'm just gonna buy those "pros" queries through paid search ! Put links on all pages of  pros.nl to  individuals.nl (but not the other way around),  so that "pros.nl" will pass some ranking value to "individuals.nl" (but only a small part of the ranking value  ->  ideally, I would like to pass all link value to this domain). Could someone advise me ???  (I know it sound a bit complicated... but I don't have much choice ^^)

Is repurposing an old sub domain better than creating a new sub domain?
We have a good sub domain like**Â art.ourwebsite.com** which currently sells custom canvas art. We have owned the domain since 2013 but it has only been live for the past few weeks. We want to redesign & repurpose the page to continue to sell custom canvas art but will eventually include other merchandise like mugs, tshirts, etc which wouldn't be custom. Would it be best to keep art.ourwebsite.com since is a shorter/more memorible & older sub domain or would it be best to update the name to something that encompasses our new products? Our marketing team has suggested yourart.ourwebsite.com

Domain Change
What is the average organic traffic loss one can expect after switching to a new domain? We went from .com to .org and are seeing 50% decline in organic traffic and 25% in Google news traffic. 301s were implemented from site.com/some-page to site.org/some-page and change site was completed in WMT. This traffic drop seems excessive...

Two Domains for the Same Page
We are creating a website for a client that will have hundreds of geographically driven landing pages. These pages will all have a similar domain structure. For example www.domain.com/georgia-atlanta-fastfood-121 We want the domain to be SEO friendly, however it also needs to be print friendly for a business card. (ex www.domain.com/121) The client has requested that we have two domains for each page. One for the Search Engines and then another shorter one for print/advertising purposes. If we do that will search engines the site for duplicate content? I really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks! Anna

Problem with 1 Domain but not 60 Others
Hi, I have about 60+ domains which are spread across a few different IP address's and a couple of Servers The domains use the same template, which is modified per the specific domain Out of the 60, a single domain attracts virtually no traffic. In google webmaster, there are no messages, nothing out of the order The supporting blogs etc... for that domain are all fine. Any idea why one domain does not perform, while the other 60 plug are successful?
