Duplicate content, how to solve?
-
I have about 400 errors about duplicate content on my seomoz dashboard. However I have no idea how to solve this, I have 2 main scenarios of duplication in my site:
Scenario 1:
3 products with the same title, but different product models, as you can note is has the same price as well.
Some printers use a different memory product module. So I just cant delete 2 products.
Scenario 2: toners

In this scenario, products have a different title but the same price. Again, in this scenario the 2 products are different.
Thank you

To keep your pages and avoid the duplicate content issues i would suggest expanding your product description e.g.
Dell Color Compatible 3130CN -Magenda with chip
Dell Color Compatible 3130CN -Black with chip...those are your produce titles, which is fine, but they are also the in page product descriptions and there is only one word different.
Now the reality... you have over 20K pages indexed so the above approach may not be so practical unless you have a bit of cash to throw at a mechanical turk project that gets all your product descriptions rewritten.
You really ought to introduce something like Disqus that lets people comment on products which in turn would generate a load of unique content, but this would take a long time.
If I was you I would consolidate products like this into a single page with a comprehensive product description and then put a canonical tag on each of the individual product pages so you can still keep them separate, but for SEO purposes you are telling the search engines to pick up one great pages and not loads of poor pages with no unique content.

The more pages you have on your website - the better. For every page you want unique title and text/images on page. Create custom description for every product you have on the site. It's up to you how to do it. Also, add Customer Reviews block on product pages.

How to handle one section of duplicate content
Hi guys, i'm wondering if I can get some best practice advice in preparation for launching our new e-commerce website. For the new website we are creating location pages with a description and things to do which will lead the user to hotels in the location. For each hotel page which relates to the location we will have the same 'Things to do' content. This is what the content will look like on each page: Location page Location title (1-3 words) Location description (150-200 words) Things to do (200-250 words) Reasons to visit location (15 words) Hotel page Hotel name and address (10 words) Short description (25 words) Reasons to book hotel (15 words) Hotel description (100-200 words) Friendly message why to visit (15 words) Hotel reviews feed from trust pilot Types of break and information (100-200 words) Things to do (200-250 words) My question is how much will we penalised for having the same 'Things to do' content on say up to 10 hotels + 1 location page? In an ideal world we want to develop a piece of code which tells search engines that the original content lies on the location page but this will not be possible before we go live. I'm unsure whether we should just go and take the potential loss in traffic or remove the 'Things to do' section on hotel pages until we develop the piece of code?

Cross domain shared/duplicate content
Hi, I am working on two websites which share some of the same content and we can't use 301s to solve the problem; would you recommend using canonical tags? Thanks!

Hi, I'm working on a site and I'm having some issues with its structure causing duplicate content. The first issue is that the search pages will show up as duplicates.

A search for new inventory may be new.aspx
The duplicate may be something like new.aspx=page1, or something like that and so on. The second issue is with inventory. When new inventory gets put into the stock of the store, a new page for that item will be populated with duplicate content. There appears to be no canonical source for that page. How can I fix both of these? Thanks!0 -

Duplicate content
I am getting flagged for duplicate content, SEOmoz is flagging the following as duplicate: www.adgenerator.co.uk/ www.adgenerator.co.uk/index.asp These are obviously meant to be the same path so what measures do I take to let the SE's know that these are to be considered the same page. I have used the canonical meta tag on the Index.asp page.

URL Duplicate Content Issues (Website Transition)
Hey guys, I just transitioned my website and I have a question. I have built up all the link juice around my old url styles. To give you some clarity: My old CMS rendered links like this: www.example.com/sweatbands My new CMS renders links like this: www.example.com/sweatbands/ My new CMS's auto-sitemap also generates them with the slash on the end. Also throughout the website the CMS links to them with the slash at the end and i link to them without the slash (because it's what i am used to). I have the canonical without the slash. Should I just 301 to the version with the slash before google crawls again? I'm worried that i'll lose all the trust and ranking i built up to the one without the slash. I rank very high for certain keywords and some pages house a large portion of our traffic. What a mess! Help! 🙂
