301 Redirect
-
The SEOmoz crawl campaign found some 404 errors in my Joomla site poker-brands.ca.
So, I figured I would set up 301 redirects in my hosting account to make sure bots don't read that there is a page missing.
For example:
This link gave a 404 error in the crawl:
http://www.poker-brands.ca/download-pokertracker-software/holdemmanager
I redirected it to:
http://www.poker-brands.ca/download-pt3-pokertracker-software/holdemmanager-hem-hm2
However, when I visit the first link it doesn't send me to the second link.
Am I supposed to get forwarded to the second link now?

This link:
http://www.poker-brands.ca/download-pokertracker-software/holdemmanager
is supposed to be forwarded to:
http://www.poker-brands.ca/download-pt3-pokertracker-software/holdemmanager-hem-hm2
I used Cpanel on my hosting to create a 301. I didn't go into .htaccess. Is there code I should add to .htaccess when I do this?
Much appreciated,

I am not able to click on the link? I get an SEOmoz page?
Can you post the link again and make sure that that it is clickable to the correct address?
Also, when you are at it, post the method of redirect. Is it .htaccess or is it done in the code?
If done correctly, then yes you should be forwarded. So something is not correct.

Will doing a 301 redirect for one domain to another give the latter domain the formers links?
I have some websites that I built a few years ago that are still in existence, but I no longer have access to the sites as they weren't hosted by myself. These sites all carry a "Designed by Me" text on the footer with a link to my (now old) website. I have since done 301 redirects on the domain names that are used in the footers of these sites so they link directly to my new site. However, will these websites now show up on Google Webmasters for example as external links to my site?

What if my developers tell me they can only handle a certain amount of 301 redirects?
We recently launched a new site and I felt the need to redirect all of our old site URLs to the new site URLs. Our developers told me they would only be able to do about 1000 before it starts to bog down the site. Has anyone else came across this before? On top of that, with our new site structure, whenever our content team changes a title (which is more often than i had hoped), the URL changes. This means I'm finding i have many other redirects I need to put in place, but cant at the moment. Advice please??

Simple 301 redirect a subfolder to another subfolder
Hi, I have a number of sub-folders that I have to move, each of which contains a number of files. subfolder A has files a, b & c subfolder B has files d, e & f
Technical SEO | | aactive
subfolder C has files g, h & i A, B & C folders need to be X, Y & Z Will the following work? RewriteRule ^subfolder-A/* http://www.domain.com/subfolder-X/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^subfolder-B/* http://www.domain.com/subfolder-Y/ [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^subfolder-C/* http://www.domain.com/subfolder-Z/ [R=301,L] will this result in visitors to http://www.domain.com/subfolder-B/f.html being redirected to http://www.domain.com/subfolder-Y/f.html? All on the same domain. in reality we are talking hundreds of sub folders and thousands of files so we don't want to have to reference every file individually in the htaccess. Thanks0 -
301 redirect blog posts from old URL to new one
I moved a wordpress blog from domain.com to domain.com/blog . I want to redirect the links in google from the old domain.com to the new one, but I also want to put a new site/application at domain.com..so I'm thinking an .htaccess 301 redirect at the root wouldn't work. Any tips?

Https redirect
Hi there, a client of mine is asking me if Google would penalize to redirect from all the http urls to https (they want to change the security protocol). I assume it is going to work as a classic 301, right? so they might lose some authority in they way, but I am not 100% sure. Can anyone confirm this? does anyone has a similar experience? thanks a lot!
