Site maps, Is there any benefit?
-
I have a relatively simple and small site (60 pages). All of it is crawlable and there is nothing I want non follow.
So, is there any real benefit to a sitemap since Google can get to all the site anyway?
Do they give the site more credence or something because it's there?
I guess as an aside, are there any favorite sites that will generate a site map?
Thanks!

Don't forget you can add your sitemap to your google / bing etc webmasters accounts.

Ok, I'm convinced.... I've added sitemaps to my site.
Thanks for the advice regarding standards and the robots.txt file.

If your adding new content to you site regularly it may get discovered quicker if your site map is bang up to date.
PLus if your going to do a job, you may aswell do it properly.

If all your pages are not being indexed it would help with that. Also, if your pages are not being re-indexed frequently enough it could be beneficial in this sense. Well I don't know of a study regarding this specifically, I imagine it would be a positive signal that you have one as opposed to not.
This site makes great ones, quickly, easily and free: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
When you add it I'd recommend placing it in this standard location: http://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml
Also, add this location in your robots.txt like so:
sitemap: http://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml

How do I diagnose a site that has had a corrupted database restored?
Here's the situation: Downloaded a backup of a full database from CPanel, because we needed to perform some queries on it. Found out that after restoring it, CPanel had not been able to zip up the full database because the server memory was set so low (some posts weren't showing up after the restore). SO, how would I go about determining exactly what content is missing from the site? What search engine queries would you perform? Is there a plugin I could use to establish the inconsistencies between the database content and the search results? Your help is appreciated in advance!

Configure a mobile site with WMT
Hello Everyone, I'm in a situation that I have no idea how to handle. I have only really dealt with RWD, and not a mobile-specific site. Anyway, I have a client who is launching an m.domian.com for their mobile site, how do I add/configure this in WMT? Thanks Zach

Site Map Problems or Are They?
According to webmaster tools my Sitemap contains urls which are blocked by robots.txt Our site map is generically generated and encompasses all web pages, whether I have excluded them using the robots.txt file As far as I am aware this has never been an issue until recently. Is this hurting my rankings and how do I fix it? Secondly, webmaster tools says there is over 5,000 error/warnings on my site map. But site map is only 1,400 or so pages submitted. How do I see what is going on?

Googlebot cannot access your site
"At the end of July I received a message in my Google webmaster tools saying "Googlebot can't access your site" We checked our robots.txt file and removed a line break in it, and then I had Google Fetch the file again. I have not received any more messages since then. When we created the website I wrote all of the content and optimized each page for about 1 local keyword. A few weeks after I checked my keywords and did have a few on the first page of google. Since then almost all of them have completely disappeared. Because we had not link building effort I would not expect to still be on the first page, but I should definitely be seeing them before the 5th or even 10th page of Google. The address is http://www.tile-pompanobeach.com I'm not sure if these horrible results have something to do with the message from Google or something else. The problem is this client now wants to sign a contract with us for SEO and I really have no Idea what happened and if I will be able to figure it out. The main keyword for my home page is tile pompano beach and I aslo was using Pompano Beach Tile store for the About page which was previously on the first page of Google. Does anyone have some input?

How can you get the right site links for your site?
Hello all, I have been trying to get Google to list relevant site links for my site when you type in our brand name, Loco2 or for when Loco2 comes up in a search result. Different things come up when you search Loco2 and Loco 2. We would like site links to look like how they do when you search Loco 2. However Loco2 is our brand name, NOT Loco 2. Does anyone know why Google is doing this and whether we can influence results? We have done as much as possible via Google webmaster, in terms of specifying the links we DO NOT want Google to list for Loco2. However, when you search "Loco2", results only show simple site links. Ideally what we want is: Loco2 to be recognised as the brand NOT Loco 2 The same results (substantial, identical) for Loco2 as for Loco 2 (think o2 and o 2) For the site links to reflect the main pages of our site (Times & Tickets, Engine Room forum etc.) Many thanks in advance!
