Google above the fold update

Hi everyone,
Ever since the Jan 19th Google 'above the fold update' I have noticed some strange ranking changes in some of my sites.
1. rankings increased dramatically (not in top 50 to page 2) on Jan 19th for about 5 days then dropped out completely from the top 50.
2. our rankings then did the same thing again around Feb 2nd for about 5 -6 days then has bottomed out ever since.
We do not have any ads on the site but our pages are dominated by images for most of the 'above the fold' section then followed by the content down the page.
Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

For some webmasters, Google has been mysterious for the past year.
Duplicate content, thin content, spun content, lots of ads above-the-fold, ugly design and other site characteristics are blamed for reduced rankings.
I have a site that contains some republished government content and some very short blog posts. Some pages on that site saw reduced rankings in October. We noindexed the duplicate and thin content in November plus cut back on some ads and most rankings recovered in January.
Lots of very experienced SEOs are guessing at what factors Google is using.
Anybody who tells you what to do based upon the minimal information that you provided is guessing.
Anything that you can do to strengthen your content to a unique and substantive position would probably be time well spent - even if it is not your current problem. You say that you don't have ads, so you can eliminate that as a potential problem.

Post-August Google Updates High volume keyphrases rankings mess
Howdy, fellow mozzers, Couple of our clients keep losing rankings, slowly but surely, which seem to correlate to August Google updates. No major changes to the websites have been done - neither code, backlink profile nor content. It seem to affect higher search volume keyphrases, while other longer tail keyphrases are climbing up. The screenshots of the visibility rankings are attached below. Any ideas/news/thought about the Google update itself or what might be happening? I know that the Medic update was overall quality, yet it seems to be that these websites in particular are going down after Birthday update, not Medic itself. Hi I wanted to find out what makes Google select a site to show the answer to a question you type in search? What is the appropriate Robot.txt to unblock if Google cannot get all the resources from my homepage?
Hello everyone. I did some research as to why my website has decreased in the Google search rankings recently. Webpage is ranking on google.ie / google.co.uk but not google.com?
One of our site webpage appears to be found in the first few pages on google.ie / google.co.uk but not on google.com. Is there such a thing being penalised on a specific Google domain? Traffic is healthy despite this but I want to rank well for the page in google.com. Any ideas?

Implications of removing all google products from site
Is there any data on the implications of removing everything google from a site; analytics, adsense, webmaster tools, sitemaps, etc. Obviously they still have their search data and they say they dont use these other sources of data for ranking information but has anyone actually tried this or is there any existing data on this?

Is Google Rotating Good Matches?
I have a theory that Google may be trying to be fair to white-hat-seo sites that are doing the right things with blogging, linking, social media, etc. [ie that deserve equal good positioning] are being cycled to and from the first page, perhaps in a weekly or monthly basis. My theory would be that they are purposefully doing it to give those sites more equal exposure. My case: I've had top rankings for http://thedogbitelawyer.com for almost all of the important terms for dog bite lawyers for a couple of years now. When Penguin came out we lost some ground across the board, and identified that perhaps there was too much duplicate content left over from when I inherited the site. I reworked the site wording and link structure a bit and gained back positioning. Since that time we are up and down like a yo-yo on the top terms! Anybody else have this suspicion? If it's true, I don't need to stress, if we are bouncing around for other reason's I'd better keep stressing!

Any ideas on how Google +1 handles URLs and canonicals?
If your URL string shows up in a search and they +1 the URL with the coding in it will the +1 transfer to the canonical page? Example: site.com/locations/arizona/?utm_source=go gets a Google +1 from a user. The page itself has a canonical for site.com/locations/arizona/ Does google credit the canonical with the +1 or do they then have dup pages with separate +1 scores?
