Twitter Hash Tags Leave Me A Liitle Confused :-(
-
Good Afternoon from 9 degrees C wetherby UK
I'm trying to get a better understanding of how search results are retrieved in Twitter. Take this scanario for instance. Via twitter search (see screen grab for illustration ) you enter Vintage Clothing. The results
show tweets where some have #Vintage #clothing in the text whilst others just have the term vintage clothing in the tweet. So my question is please... "If your client asks how do i get my tweets picked up by searchers looking for vintage clothing should i ad hash tags or not bother and just mention the term in the tweek"
Put another way, why do some tweeters hash tag a key pharse and place term in the snippet. I'm, a bit confused...

You can create it, but it is better to use a currently trending one unless you have access to a very authoritative twitter account.
If you have an event or conference then yes you would need to register it, other than that I would just watch the trends with ideas in pocket with a few different scenarios of good content you have to distribute.

Thanks Shane great example. But i wonder who creates the hash tag? I mean could i just pluck one out of the air now like #flashphotography and begin to use it and after time it begins to be used a bit like a new word in natural language.
I'm feeling chicken and the egg syndrome with a large dollop of confusion

Hi,
Hashtags are just trends, or groups of Tweets/Posts that are all lumped together due to a trending topic or event.
Lets take a currently trending item
So what a business might do is find a way to insert themselves in a funny and witty way.
**Disclaimer the following example may be neither funny nor witty, but it is just an example
A Skate shop might do something like...
The #StupidThingsPeopleDo when skateboarding {link to video hosted on your site of skateboarding accidents]
That was probably a pretty weak example, but it is the way businesses can capitalize on trends, but only if done in a genuine way and not just throwing in a a semi relevant trending hashtag.
A good way to look at it is possibly categories of a blog, the hashtag is the category tag, but it references the entire twtterverse, instead of just referencing your blog.
In your exact example of Vintage, I would suggest the including of the hashtag vintage when it makes since
Sale today on 70's #vintage clothing click for details (link)
This also is kind of a weak example, but it is Friday, and out of Ideas....
Hope this helps a little
w00t!

Are Social tags beyond Structured Data still required?
Hello:  I have a client that has Structured data set up correctly to include their social profiles for FB, Twitter, and Google+.  But when I run an audit tool it tells me that they need  < re=Publisher > tag for Google Plus. My understanding is that we don't need any additional code beyond the Structured Data tags.  Is that correct? Thank you Rosemary

I am trying to figure out fb:admin tag. Â I noticed that Moz uses a person's from hubspot, Â is this because hubspot connects into their facebook data? Who should my company set it to? Â Any guides would be helpful. Thanks, Chris

Analytics tagging on social media links
Curious: do you all tag your social media links with Google Analytics parameters? I know Google Analytics automatically tags referrals from social channels, but I am interested in possibly adding additional tracking parameters to links that I share and potentially promote. If I tag my social links with GA tracking codes, and they are shared widely, do I lose any potential SEO value from those links? Â I know Google isn't necessarily factoring in social shares from Facebook, etc. yet, but it would seem that, since tagged links are ones that we've influenced, any shares of that link would potentially be considered unnatural? Just curious what others' best practices are for social sharing. Â Thanks, in advance.

What if an employee leaves and removes Rel=Author verification from their Google Plus profile?
What if someone leaves your company and removes your site from their Google Plus profile (under "Contributor To"). Does that kill all the rel=author on the pages written by this former employee? (Should you use the email verification with employees to avoid this scenario? Email verification is a big hassle for us.)

Twitter based competition
I have a client who wants to run a twitter based competition. The idea is as follows. tweet the url of your favorite product from clients website, with #hashtag . so potentially there could be 100+ tweets referencing three or four unique urls on the clients website. What I am interested in is there any SEO benefit to be gained from this.

Does promoting a new page on twitter/facebook help it get indexed faster?
I know this probably won't matter much to people who get crawled on a regular basis, but for those of us who don't, does promoting a new page on social media help it get indexed faster with google? My site rarely gets crawled, but I've recently been adding new content.  When I add new content I started to promote it on facebook/twitter and I do get minimal traffic from it.  I noticed that a couple of the pages seem to be indexing quicker than pages normally do for me, although I'm not sure if it's because I recently migrated to WP or what..? I know T/FB are no follow sites, but is there a chance that promoting a page may contribute to the pages getting indexed? Thanks for any insight you can shed on the matter. It's more for curiosities sake than anything else. Pete S.

Does it make sense to have one facebook/twitter account for multiple websites?
If you have several different websites with related themes, does it make sense to just have a facebook or twitter page for the company to make managing the account more manageable?
