Keyword ranking tool
-
Hello,
What is best practice for knowing if a keyword is too difficult to try to rank for. i understand the keyword difficulty tool in seoMOZ, but am unsure of how it actually relates to if I should attempt to rank for the keyword. Is there a differential people use such as if a site has a Page Authority of 60 we will not try to rank for a keyword that has a keyword difficulty ranking of 40?

The Keyword Difficulty gives you a best guess of how hard it would be to rank for a particular keyword, although it's not foolproof. For each keyword, the tool gives you an analysis on which you can base your best judgement based on
- the quality of your content,
- backlink profile and
- ranking potential (your DA/PA)
When using the Keyword Difficulty Tool, it's helpful to look not only at the raw number, but the metrics also contained in the Keyword Analysis report beneath it. Be sure to run a full report for important keywords. This will give you insight into exactly why each URL ranks the way it does.
For example, the keyword analysis will show you the number of inbound links for each page, on-page factors, and all relevant metrics. When you compare your own site against these factors (you can add your own URL to the report) you can judge how likely you are to rank.
Often times you can earn a top ranking on a keyword with a high keyword difficulty score if you have advantages that the others don't. This is particularly the case when the competition is poorly optimized on-page for the given keyword.
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your SEO.

I'm pretty sure Keyword Difficulty and PA are not correlated like that, they just both happen to be on a scale of 100.
Take a look at the DA & PA of the top 10 sites for that keyword. If you're in the middle of the pack, you've certainly got a chance. If you're below everyone, you better start link building and getting your site trust and authority up in order to have a competitive chance with that keyword.
Then use the On-Page Analysis / Grader in your SEOMoz campaign for the page you want to rank. Score an A and you're on your way.
Depending on the niche, I would follow that with more link building to the specific page. Keep an eye on rankings, it could take a day or it could take a few months, depends on difficulty. You should be seeing progress after doing the tasks above.
Do that stuff, and if it doesn't work come back here and let me know, we'll take it to the next level...

Should I use location in keywords in a campaign?
We're setting up 25 campaigns for clients and many of the keywords in each are identical. Rather than creating a keyword with a specific location for each client (pool builder san francisco), would it be more effective to use only "pool builder" as the keyword and then set the location for the San Francisco area? I'm concerned that we are going to run out of our keyword allotment since many of our clients have multiple locations.

Massive Rank Changes in Bing/Yahoo Only - What's up w/ Rank Tracker?
I'll be honest, it's pretty shameful how little attention I give Bing and Yahoo. But something recently caught my eye - I have a client who according to rank tracker is all over the place in yahoo/bing...up 20 positions for some kw's, down 12 for others...meanwhile Google's holding steady, and Google data seems mostly accurate - with one exception of showing 46th position for an exact match branded search that they're #1 for. I know Rank Tracker has been going through some fine tuning, right? I don't manually check Yahoo/Bing - I can't imagine those #'s are accurate though. Am I right to assume it's incorrect data? Just curious, any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

How do i target keywords locally
I am working for a cosmetic surgeon with clinics in three geographic places. I would like to give him specific keywords that he can go after successfully. When I use the keyword tool with terms like botox cosmetic staten island or breast augmentation tarrytown, I get competitive rankings like 36% or 37%, but it doesnt tell me if there are only a few searchers doing this per month. In Google's Adwords tool, it thinks that the number fo searchers with these same terms is too small to measure, literally giving me back a dash (= insignificant traffic). However, it I use Google Adwords with more general terms, say breast augmentation surgeon, and get a medium/110 global monthly searches, when I come back to SEOmoz tool and assess the same keyword, I find that the traffic picks up doctor sites in Arizona and elsewhere, where clearly no one who wants cosmetic surgery in new York is going to fly to Arizona for it. So, how do I ensure a balance between targeting too little traffic but including the names of specific towns, and targetting more general terms but not having local prospects. Has anyone tackled this in a specific medical niche?

Ranking
Why is comunicatedepresa.net ranking better than comunicatedepresa.ro for the term "comunicate de presa" Absolutely ALL the factors (links, domains linking, authority, onpage etc) seem to say that comunicatedepresa.ro should have ranked better.
