Redirecting /default to domain ??

Google analytics shows me that this: http://www.quicklearn.com/default.aspx is my "top content page"
This page doesn't redirect to my root domain: http://www.quicklearn.com
IT tells me that "/default.aspx" can not redirect to my domain. I am told: "You can only redirect deeper into the site."
We have had an ongoing issue with duplicate content (that we are in the process of correcting).
Anyone with experience in redirecting that can help? Any advice welcome

The solution is simple, ask him to put something like that in your default.aspx file, he should understand :
If Request.Url.ToString() = "/default.aspx" Then
Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently"
Response.AddHeader("Location","http://www.quicklearn.com/")
End IfThese 4 lines (not 2 finaly, I forgot how asp was... asp) should do the trick.

If I were you, I would fire the IT... If your IT doesn't know the simple two lines of code that can solve this common problem, I think he doesn't deserve his job.
If all your inbound links are splitted between two pages that are in fact the same / and /default.aspx than you are losing a significant amount of link juice that could all go to the same place and this, without any doubt, affect your rankings.

1)Let me explain something about adding rel canonical
it doesnt mean that it will INDEX quicklearn.com . But what is going to happen is when you will serve googlebot the /default. you will tell him that the canonical version of this page is quicklearn.com. and it means all SEO value will be credited to quicklearn.com and you will not have duplicate content between them two.
Now concerning what Google Analytics will show you exactly whats the user is landing on. and IMO it will still show you the /default

and seems URL structure is working good

I haven't heard that one from a developer before (only redirecting deeper into a site), and I do see online people being able to do the redirects. I've used ISAPI rewrites on IIS servers before just fine to handle this, though with a different site architecture.
Just one URL for each page is the best practice. However you redirect, make sure that you use a 301 (permanent) redirect.

Help me to understand if I did this correctly, and what the fastest solution is ok ?
1.) We used rel=canonical on the http://www.quicklearn.com/default.aspx to eliminate a duplicate content issue. Google should index http://www.quicklearn.com. Google Analytics still shows /default.aspx as top though.
2.) All our subcategory pages have the same type of the thing. /default (etc)

Do the /default pages (extra version) hurt us in indexing and Page rank?

If ISAPI rewrites didn't do the trick, did you try using rel=canonical ?

How to redirect subfolder on different domain to another but same ftp

Hello Moz Community, I have a question regarding 301 redirecting a new domain that contains keywords relevant to my website. However, I do NOT want to change my current domain. I have a sub domain that has live content on it but the root domain redirects to another URL. I know this is not great but what are the implications?
I have a subdomain that is populated and has content. The root domain that the sub lives on redirects to an entirely different URL. I am trying to make a case as to why this isn't great besides the fact that it is just weird user experiences. What are the SEO implications etc. Would any equity that gets built up on the subdomain get passed along in the redirect? Or will there be indexation issues with Google? Cheers, Mark

Redirects - How Best to do this ?
Hi I am looking to close Website A which has many pages. I would like to keep the home page and add some great content to it with a link pointing to Website B. As for all the other pages excluding the home page , how is it best to approach them on Website A. Should I redirect them all to the home page of Website A which will tell Google thoose Pages are no longer needed and to prevent the visitors from seeing a 404? My Main aim here is to not lose any visitors to Website A by sending them to Website B but also to hopefully pass any Page strength from Website A to Website B Thanks Adam

301 redirect from root to /index.aspx
I have taken over the SEO for www.domain.net. The way i've inherited the setup is that www.domain.net is 301 redirected to www.domain.net/index.aspx Looking at top pages and linking root domains in Opensiteexplorer I can see that www.domain.net/index.aspx has 1,006 linking root domains www.domain.net has 806 linking root domains. I assume that www.domain.net is passing the value of it's 806 domain links to www.domain.net/index.aspx via the 301 redirect and because of this would expect www.domain.net/index.aspx to be the strongest page on the site and be the url that ranks in the listings for many relevant searches. It appears however that www.domain.net is what is shown in listings and not www.domain.net/index.aspx ?? Can anyone explain why this might be?? If I do a site: search in Google then www.domain.net is indexed and not www.domain.net/index.aspx ??
