Are Facebook posts indexed?
-
Can using keywords and target phrases in posts on my Facebook fanpage help my SEO strategy, or does Google not crawl those pages so it doesn't matter in terms of SEO?
If it can help, can you please provide an example?
Thanks!

No, Facebook content doesn't get indexed. Take a look at the SEOmoz Facebook page's cached, text version from google: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:chzSCnphy10J:www.facebook.com/SEOmoz&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1. The only content from the whole page is this:

I was asking more about content on Facebook, not necessarily link building. For example - if "purple flower pots" is one of my main keywords it is beneficial to start Facebook posts with "purple flower pots".

Basically in a nut shell, social signals do effect rankings.

If all the links for your website is followed, this should also be a problem. Its not so normal, and in my opinion this should affect google.
But some social medias have also followed links. In my website i have a followed link from formspring. I also read in the Q&A that Delicious make followed links for websites with more users sharing it.
Another tip: did you tried the SEO directories? You can find a list here: http://www.seomoz.org/directories. I was new here triyng to find links, and I was afraid from the directiories. I tried and it was perfect. For sites that have not so much links, its a perfect solution.
Good luck for you in the "link wars". I'm there and suffering a lot...

All social media uses nofollow so no PR is passed. Nobody sees social media as part of a valid link building strategy.
Social media is NOT ignored, however. There's still debate about how it affects results (there's a correlation vs causation debate there) but it is known that Google does follow what goes on socially. Obviously, Google's own social media (+1) has a much more direct affect but getting someone to follow you or link your site on their social page (any network) seems to give you some benefit.
Some food for thought

Facebook Likes, What are your thoughts on people begging for them?
Hi There, I'm seeing more and more businesses (especially small businesses) setting up Facebook pages and then almost begging people to like them with lines such as "lets see if we can get to 200 likes", etc etc. What are your thoughts on this does it really help and do you think Google will find a way to not count them as spammy?

Has anybody else noticed that Google has made a significant change to their SERP? There is a lot of social data reported from LinkedIn, Youtube and Facebook (includes page likes and activity) when you search by company name. Thoughts anybody?

Facebook Advertising Noob Question
Hello Mozzers, I have a noob question for which I have not been able to find a clear answer on the internet. When a client asks you how much would I have to spend on FB ads to get 100,000 fans how do you go about making a "media plan". I can understand you can calculate clicks using your budget and CPC but fans? Also, ad impressions on Facebook? FB doesn't even give that metric anymore on its default ad dashboard where you have campaign reach, social reach, CTR etc. So if a client wants 1Million Facebook Ad Impressions (I know, I know), how do you tell them how much its going to cost them. In a nutshell, clients want to know how much they should be spending to get x number of fans and impressions and vice versa, how many fans and impressions will $XXX get them. So how does one go about making a media plan for Facebook advertising, what do you include in it and well, anything else that I should know? Thank you, Rishad.

Good idea to include links in Facebook posts teaser-text?
Hi guys, I'm wondering; is it a good idea (for the engines primaliry) to include links with targeted keywords in facebook posts. From a user perspective I would say it's not desirable. But I'm wondering how Google and co treat links which they find there. They are nofollowed, yes. They are indexed however but when I want google to show me the text-only version of the cached page I receive an 404 error which is odd. Anybody else getting the 404 from google? Eg. clicking on this cache-URL: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jsC_26QVKbgJ:www.facebook.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661+site:facebook.com/echoonline&cd=3&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de&client=firefox-a and then on "text only" leads to this page which does not exist: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661?_fb_noscript=1 Looking forward to your ideas on this topic.
