Moving a blog from unique domain to root /blog/ but on 2 different servers? HELP!

I have a main site hosted on one server, I have the blog hosted on another server - BOTH of which my team has FULL control over. I ultimately want the blog to reside on the root domain:
My network team is saying "DNS will not allow this to happen, the resolution will ultimately have to be on blog.website.com"
Has anyone out there done this? Is it even possible?

Try using http://www.helicontech.com/isapi_rewrite/. It's very easy to install and use.
Then go http://www.helicontech.com/isapi_rewrite/doc/examples.htm#proxy to get the code to create the reverse proxy.
Just remember, this won't change any of the links in your content, so if they're full urls(with the domain name in them) then you'll end up getting links back to the subdomain.

Sorry, I hate IIS
I use apacheBut you may want to contact the poster of the blog, you may be able to hire them for final configuration issues
I also know that Alan Mosley (is his name here on SEO) is REALLY knowledgeable on IIS, so you may be able to contract him?
You could also place a post on Odesk, with your exact requirements, current issues ect... and place a job for contractors to apply to

Any resources you can point me to for IIS6? the plug-ins were downloaded but something is still up with the configuration. I could not say what though and I am FAR from a network expert...

There are MANY issues one could encounter, and sadly to say without being on your network team, and knowledge of your topology it would be a hard guess...

in general though these changes should not take down your root domain, so I think there must be something being missed....
If you use IIS, you may need this 3rd party plugin

So while this was spelled out, its been a month now and my team still cannot figure out how this works and I am not sure why. It looks so simple I just don't get it. I am being told that when they do it the site breaks. Do you know of anyone that has had this problem before?

You basically have two options, both explored by the other community members (I thumbed them up)
Solution One - Migrate your Wordpress blog to your primary domain. This would involve moving the files, the database, the whole shebang. There are various guides online how to do this:
Pay close attention to the Yoast post, as he has some suggestions for 301'ing your old URLs to your new URLs.
Solution Two - Reverse Proxy, as James suggested.(big thumbs up!)
In either case, consider this the same as a site migration, and be sure to catalog and redirect your URLs appropriately. Richard Baxter wrote a great couple of posts about this:

If it is a self hosted wordpress blog vs a wordpress.com hosted blog, you can definitely ste it up in a sub-folder. No doubts.

It is in fact a wordpress blog. It is being hosted on one server, while the root site is hosted on another server. Right now our blog is on a unique domain but I want it on the root of the site mywebsite.com/blog/ - but with it being on two separate servers I am being told there is no way to resolve this.

Hi,
I would have your network team look at reverse proxy..
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/what-is-a-reverse-proxy-and-how-can-it-help-my-seo
This will allow you using either IIS or Apache modules to use a reverse proxy to turn blog.website.com into www.mysite.com/blog/ even if they are hosted on two completely different servers

What kind of blog is it ? Is it a wordpress.com or typepad.com or blogspot.com hosted blog ? That could be the only reason why you could not use a sub-folder.
I would recommend using wordpress.org hosted blog and install it on /blog/ and then import content from your existing blog, whatever platform it is, I am pretty sure there are import plugins available in the wordpress plugin database to import your content seamlessly.

General Question: Linking Root Domains 0
Hi, we have several subpages with PA 1. We try to figure out why. The link metrics show 0 Linking root domains, but shouldnt there be at least the own domain like 1 linking root domain or are we getting it already wrong here? The subpages have following link metrics: 0 External followed Links. 8416 subdomain and 8421 Root Domain, Linking Root Domains 0, 299 Subdomain, 302 Root Domain (From Mozbar). Will doing a 301 redirect for one domain to another give the latter domain the formers links?
I have some websites that I built a few years ago that are still in existence, but I no longer have access to the sites as they weren't hosted by myself. These sites all carry a "Designed by Me" text on the footer with a link to my (now old) website. I have since done 301 redirects on the domain names that are used in the footers of these sites so they link directly to my new site. However, will these websites now show up on Google Webmasters for example as external links to my site?

Help: domain name change and Google News
Hi. I work for a regional news source, and our (separate) Spanish-language news publication recently changed its domain name. The publication lost its Google News inclusion. Most of their traffic came from Google News, so traffic tanked. They're trying to get back in. They reapplied but didn't get approved. They're now in the 30-day waiting period to reapply again. The website is run by a third-party company, which handled the domain name change in April (2015). That company has been running their site for a couple of years. Our in-house devs' hands are tied on helping, because we (at the mother company) don't manage their site. This third party has not been responsive. The Spanish pub folks have reached out to me to help them prepare for Round 2 of reapplication. I'm the mothership in-house SEO, but I've never experienced this situation before. Because everything seems to be in order besides the ham-handed changes, my best advice to them so far is: You'll have to wait until Google gets to know you again, unfortunately. Does that sound right? Any pointers out there for bringing their best possible A-game to the next round?

Off-site company blog linking to company site or blog incorporated into the company site?
Kind of a SEO newbie, so be gentle. I'm a beginner content strategist at a small design firm. Currently, I'm working with a client on a website redesign. Their current website is a single page dud with a page authority of 5. The client has a word press blog with a solid URL name, a domain authority of 100 and page authority of 30. My question is this: would it be better for my client from an SEO perspective to: Re-skin their existing blog and link to the new company website with it, hopefully passing on some of its "Google Juice,"or... Create a new blog on their new website (and maybe do a 301 redirect from the old blog)? Or are there better options that I'm not thinking of? Thanks for whatever help you can give a newbie. I just want to take good care of my client.

For a web agency, can the same WHOIS registrant name information between different domain names hurt SEO?
Hi, I own a web agency and we often register domain names for our clients. When we register those, I just realized that we always use the same registrant name and other whois (ex : Louis-Philippe Dea), for all domain names. Can this hurt the SEO of our clients? 301 redirect after penalty to domain which currently 301 to the penalised domain
Hello all, As I have mentioned in another Q&A, one of our new clients got hit by manual penalty. I checked their link profile and there was a lot of black hat involved. Long story sort, I submitted a reconsiderationr equest which was not enough as it seems 99,9% of his links are bad links. We took the decision to move a newly launched web site from www.websitename.com to www.website-name.com with the latter being an old domain name with good authority and clean link profile. The problem is that at the moment the www.website-name.com is set to 301 redirect to www.websitename.com and what we want to do now is take the web site off www.websitename.com and launch (not 301 as we dont want to pass the penalty to the clean domain) it to www.website-name.com. What is the best practise for this particular case and are there any things i should pay attention to? I would appreciate your advise!

Help with a unique bounce rate problem!
My company ranks very well for the target keyword "blue link" but as it turns out Hyundai launched a new "Blue Link" service. Given that we are a much more niche offering, many of the searches for blue link are for hyundai. Because people tend to click on the first results without even reading anything, we have seen an increase in traffic as well as a huge spike in bounce rates once they realize we are not the right company. Our listing on Google is pretty clear what we are so I'm not sure how to fix this problem . . .

Can I do a redirect to a new domain name only a couple of weeks after having redirected to another domain?
I have a client with two website with very similar content. Both had a lot of inbound links and performed fairly well in SERPS. We recently combined both sites and have redirected one of the domains to the other. The traffic dipped slightly initially, but is recovering nicely. Now the client registered a new domain name he would like to use for the site. Should I wait a few weeks for everything to settle down after the first redirect/consolidation of sites before doing a new redirect to a new domain name, or should I not worry about having any issues with doing it right away?
