Do you bother to nofollow links out to Facebook etc?

These days many sites link (often site-wide) to their social profiles on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.... etc

Theoretical SEO on-page optimisation might condone adding nofollow to these links, but I have a feeling it might not do much in terms of conserving page authority and indeed might be a bit of an "over-optimisation" signal.

I'd advise you firstly look at the purpose of the nofollow attribute to answer this one. When you nofollow, you're telling Google that you don't want to pass your page's reputation to the pages linked to.

There's therefore no reason why you would want to nofollow the social profiles.

You want to give reputation to these pages, you want them to rank for the brand etc.

It wouldn't cause "over-optimization" signals but it's pointless nofollow'ing such links.

If your going to be linking out to your own Facebook or other social pages, there is no reason why you should nofollow these links! Your linking to a reputable domain that has your own content on it. In my opinion do not nofollow these links.
