How to SEO how-to website?
-
I've launched the website www.ComoFazer.com.br, which is a Brazilian how-to website (the domain is literally how to in Portuguese).
How can I get to the top rankings? My strategy so far:
- made all the on-page SEO stuff
- put 4 sidebar links in family websites
- bought the $90 package in GetLinksPro for 100 dofollow links
- spent about $100 in Facebook Ads to get 2k followers there
I want help regarding SEO and strategy for this kind of sites.

It would appear you are trying to become the Brazilian eHow. Given that they are not favorites of Google, etc. I would say be careful. You are already starting off using some questionable methodologies - Paid links as a starter. As to the sidebar links, they are discounted, so you need to stay after it for real quality links. If you dont mind spending a few dollars, Yahoo Directory ($295) could be a good direction. I would also insure that you are tight on local and are on every citation site you can find. There is a good list: http://www.seomoz.org/directories and here is a great Cyrus Shepard post around web directories and linking.
Obviously, your biggest challenge will be to have content around How To. So, you have your work cut out for you.
Hope this helps a bit,

Hey there Kikocherman,
I would love to help you but your question is a little vague.
-
What 'how-to' tutorials exactly is your website showing? Is it on any category or one specific category (e.g. How to repair cars)?
-
What keywords or phrases are you looking to get ranked for specifically?
-
Who is your target market?
Also just a word of advice, you should never have to buy back links to your website. Most places like that are very unreliable and only provide weak links. Just one strong, legitimate and relevant link, will easily out weight all of those purchased links. However, good call on the Facebook Ads.

Can affiliate links benefit or hurt my seo?
I have just signed up with a company to do affiliate marketing for my site. I am now in the process of reaching out to publishers and seeing who will publish my link on their site. Is there any benefit in terms of seo for having these links, and can there be any potential downside to these links as well?

Connecting Two Websites Without Upsetting Google
I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but want to cover my bases. We have a successful blog and are creating a second similar blog for a more specific type of reader. We want to backlink between content because it makes sense for the reader. Our fear is that we may come off spammy to Google by having so many backlinks. Is there a way we are able to tell Google these two sites are related so they don't penalize either site for anything?

Blog commenting for SEO - Useful practice?
With most blog comments being no-follow, I was just wondering whether blog commenting for an SEO campaign these days was actually a worthwhile practice. Would love to get some insight on this.

Penalized by SEO Link Wheelers Backlinks
Just over a year ago, I've bought 4 link building packages from SEO Link Wheelers. From what I see now, most of their website network has been penalized / banned and now it's hurting my websites. I've tried to contact them but they won't reply. I'd be willing to pay to have them remove the links but they simply won't answer. And I haven't been rude or impolite at all in my communications with them. I've tried calling them to but to no avail. I know where most of the bad links are, thanks to linkresearchtools.com Now I gotta get rid of that crap. Any suggestions?

Very Frustrated SEO
Hi Guys, I wake up this morning one very frustrated, tired and fed up SEO. I have always used very traditional link building methods upto last year directory submissions, social bookmarks, article submissions and maybe a few profie links but I always up front and honest with my clients what they were getting for their buck!. and sent them reports showing all links done. Obviously with the recent algorithm changes, I have switched my focus to content marketing (i hear you all cheering lol), however, I am stumped!. I have read everything I can get hold of to do with content marketing, registered with buzzstream for outreach opportunities and joined myblogguest just so I could understand the process a little bit more. I have watched the whiteboard Fridays and actually have a great opportunity to get in with a site using "guest post + niche". I love writing content which is a bonus. Okay here's my moan. Coming from a traditional SEO background and coming to content marketing late, do I ditch everything else. Is content marketing all I should be doing? or can I still do the some directory submissions (good PR moz rank only), social bookmarking (only for content marketing articles), profile linking (maybe I need to drop altogether). Is content marketing enough to rank a client?. I look at some clients competitors links and they have 100's of links to stuff that looks unnatural. Kind Regards Neil

Are Dealer Reciprocal Links Hurting My SEO?
We are a manufacturer of fireplaces that sells our product through a series of nationwide distributors. We have a link to each of our distributors, who also have links to us, on our website under a "Where to Buy" tab. If we were to remove these links and instead provide contact information, would this significantly help our SEO?

Blogging to add SEO value to site... recommendations
Hi Mozzers! A client has a high authority website in the travel industry, and needs any and all advantages to get ahead in very competitive keywords. The send out a newsletter bimonthly, but have no blog, so I recommended at the very least, they publish online their emailed newsletters to add informational and relevant content. The question is, for max SEO value, should they... create a blog as a subdomain or subfolder of their existing site? should they self host a blog with a separate domain? or should they simply use a blogger/wordpress.com free blog? Consider that just adding on a blog to their existing site isn't easy. It's some old CMS that's apparently a nightmare to deal with. Plus, branding a WP install to match the site isn't something they want to spend a lot of time on. Your insight is welcome and appreciated!

Negative SEO
It looks like either opensiteexplorer is broken or two of our domains are being spammed via negative seo with very low quality links:

http://winter.bergleben.at is a project pretty new in development. Last time I checked we had 39 linking root domains. Now - couple of weeks later - we have more than 800 linking root domains. Most of them very dubious ones. Problem is: the link anchors look correct of what we or a user would typically link to most of the URLs identified by OSE I cannot even find a link back to us on there If it weren`t for the correct link anchors I would consider something wrong with OSE.
Another URL affected is www.skiinfo.de We are very proud of our quality and organic approach to editorial journalism, but we are in a very competitive field, so I would not be surprised if someone would apply negative SEO against us. Can someone briefly look into it and tell me if they came up with the same issue?0
