One page website SEO
-
Can a one page website rank well with the right SEO? I am building a new site so it is best to put the content related to two or three related items on one page or create seperate pages? Surely by creating just one page I can put all my link building efforts into improving the authority of that page as opposed to spreading my time over 3?

Thanks for your reply guys. That all makes perfect sense. I want the site to be as useful as possible so seperate pages will help that cause.

Could you rank? Yes, however I think that by breaking the content up into separate pages you would generate higher volumes of traffic. Why?
- Separate pages will enable you to write engaging and keyword rich title tags that will get a higher CTR (with one page you would be forced to write keyword stuffed title tags). (ditto for meta description)
- Separate pages will enable you put your target keywords at the start of the title tag which will help you rank for that keyword.
- Separate pages would look less spammy from a search engine perspective and therefore your site would have less chance of being penalised.
And from a user perspective:
- Would a one page website raise alarm bells about credibility?
- How easy would it be for a user to find what they are looking for on a one page website if it is cluttered amongst other content?
-
Agree totally with Matt. If the keyword is competitive (like shoes), no way you will rank high. However, If it's a long tail with no competition (cool shoes with blue laces) you could.

I think you are going to struggle ranking well for multiple terms in relation to a one page website. I would even go as far as to say how much value does a 1 page website give to a browser? You could argue that it provides them with exactly what they are looking for. However I would say a site with several pages will allow you to rank for multiple keywords better concentrating on one for each page and then you could actually end up with a better link profile as you can push each individually rather than purely the one page. You might gain decent links to several pages rather than limiting it to just one. I would always stick to the principle that Google is looking for over-optimized and spammy pages, since Penguin especially. How over-optimised is a page likely to look if it is targeting multiple keywords, potentially using all the on-page factors? Also then when Google finds it is a single page it will set alarm bells off if you ask me – this site is just there to rank for these terms and serves no real value. Put the time in to develop an information rich site that really serves the purpose you intend it to well and is not a shortcut for search engine ranking. You are more likely to rank well and get links from decent sites/authorities if you go about it in this way I think.

Does embedded content (from my site) help seo
hi i am creating a new accommodation site and will have some great videos on it (fly bys of local beaches and virtual tours of hotels etc). from an seo perspective i have two questions: 1. should i host on my own site or youtube/vimeo - its a new site but in the long run i want my site to get the credit 2. i will be giving the hotels the chance to embed and video content i have on their own sites. does this help my own seo juice and if so is there a particular way it should be done. there will be around 90 well established local hotels in total so figured it should add up.

Content of the Product Page
Hi Everybody : how can you tell if the content on the product pages are accessible by google ? please have a look at my product page : http://www.fireplaceproducts.co.uk/stoves/aarrow-stoves/aarrow-ecoburn-defra-wood-burning-stove/ i used classes in product page to set the key features, construction ,... i notices other companies done these as text and they get better ranks do you think that's the reason ? also to test that i added the text exact same as the key features , construction ,... as additional information at the end of the product page , would you thin that would be considered as duplication ? Kind Regards Arta

Affiliate Links & SEO
Hi Looking at my backlink profile I noticed that I had 150 links coming from one site. Ahhhh I thought in light if the recent Penguin updates. Upon closer inspection I noticed that my link is only on the homepage of that site but because that site sells its product via clickbank they have got loads of versions of that site because of its affiliates. For example: MAINSITE is www.mainsite.com then there are 150 affiliates using hoplinks via clickbank so its: www.mainsite.com?hopmrbig www.mainsite.com?blablahblah etc etc The question: Will this hurt me? In theory I got 1 link on their homepage but will Google see it as 150 versions of the same site? Your thoughts please? SMP

Can I start SEO before finishing my website?
Hi, I'm new to SEO and websites. I'm slowly building a website at the moment. I was wondering if I could set up a blog at the domain name I will use for my final website and begin doing SEO. Eg. I set up a blog using a CMS like Squarespace and begin blogging at domain.com/blog (with links to the domain.com/blog from the domain.com home page) and inbound links point to the domain.com 'front page'. And then add the design of the 'front page' of the website using Squarespace at a later stage eg. domain.com. Is this a good idea? Will it work? I'm anxious to get started on SEO. Thanks!

Backlinks from Trade Website - Are they worth it?
Hi I am doing some linking building for a niche and slightly dull industry. I have found that trade magazine want a lot of money to publish press releases with back links. The publications are relevant to my industry but have a low page rank on Google. Is it still worth paying for these links? Thanks David

Ranking Inner Pages or the Main Page?
Hello Guys, I am relatively new to the SEO world. So I am just wondering what would be more helpful. Getting the homepage ranked for a list of targeted keywords or creating a separate page for each keyword and then getting those pages ranked? Look forward to hear back, Thanks! Naimath
