Low page rank directories but high domain authority?
-
I just paid someone to submit me to a few directories and I saw were I was listed on one of them today. The url page authority of where I was listed was a "1" with zero moz trust and zero moz authority. The root domain authority is a "69". Is page authority or domain authority the most important for links? I believe all the directories I was submitted to have url page authority of "1". ( I watched a video yesterday and I think the head guy said that page authority was most important but I am not sure.

@ Istvan,
I did email them tonight so hopefully I will get some answers. I will review the videos. I also read the articles you suggested last night. A lot of info to digest but I am sure it will eventually sink in. I will see if I can go and meet with the SEO I found online at their office. No communication in this relationship at all!
@ SEO Brent,
Yes no one will ever find me one these directories and most don't see to load very well. I think they are just going for links since I only have 4 root directory links right now. I also thought that the number of links was important but I guess the relevancy part is just as important. I am going to have a sit down with them and it the channels of communication do not open up then it is time for a divorce. (I am leaning towards the firing though because the directories are not relevant and non of my competitors are on them, although most of the domain ranks were 40 or higher.
Thank you.

Judging from the various things mentioned in your question the "company" you hired is nothing more then a spammer. If their entire "SEO campaign" is to deliver xx directory links a month then fire them right now.
On the other hand if they're submitting your sites to highly relevant directories that would make sense to a user looking for your company PLUS doing other forms of link building then yes keep them (this doesn't sound like the case)
To answer your page authority question - the page authority is showing up as "1" because OpenSiteExplorer needs time to find these need links and evaluate them accordingly you should see their true page authority by the end of the month.

Hi there,
I underlined it many time to others and I will underline this fact to you too: before you are trying to "hire" someone to get a job done, try to get to know, what that specific person is going to do for you.
In your case I would advice you to go and check the following two videos:
- www.seomoz.org/blog/which-link-metrics-should-i-use-part-2-of-2-whiteboard-friday
These two take up 30 minutes, but they will give you the basic knowledge of how to measure the link metrics.
BTW: if you really want to climb in "SEO" try to deliver something real good and you will achieve the goal.
Regarding the SEO company you have hired: my advice would be to sit down with them for 1 hour meeting and ask the following question:
- What is the strategy they are going after?
- Why did they choose that?
- How will this point you out from the crowd?
Taking rough decisions like Hire of Fire is not specific to SEO. There might be strategies which might not show up too much in the start, but on a long run you will benefit from their campaigns. A good SEO company knows that your goals are their goals too! If you are happy as a customer, you will stick up with them.
Another advice: SEO consultant and Client relationship should be compared to marriage. I know it sounds ridiculous, but if they hide things from you, they are going after sneaky goals, it will end up with a divorce. And a divorce is not good for neither of you.
Final thought: Go ask this question question to your SEO too, ask them why is it good to have you submitted in those directories, if it is delivering any plus value, etc. etc.
Good luck,
Istvan

Missing Inbound Linking Domains
For some reason, our websites seem to be missing a number of authoritative inbound linking domains which seems to be a primary driver in lowering our domain authority as compared to our competition. Does anyone have any feedback as to why this might not be populating or is there something additional we need to do to have these show up? If it doesn't show up in MOZ is it likely that Google might also not be seeing these as inbound link domains? Thanks as always MOZ Community!

Links to deep pages good for Homepage ranking?
Hello Moz community. My question today is: if I got great backlinks with anchor text "abc" coming to a deep resource page in my site, will these links help my homepage rank for keyword "xyz"? In other words, are all links (regarless of anchor text) coming to a site helpful for the homepage to rank for its main keyword? Thanks.

Domain and page backlinks
Hello Everyone, I am new at SEO, and I am a bit confused with the following situation: I have domain, wordpress site on it, and I am building backlinks to it (testing). I do not have "home" page among pages in wordpress, if it means anything. When I build links, i use different anchor texts, but they all point to http://somethingsomething.net -Ahrefs shows that I have 830 backlinks from 45 domains, to my URL, which is http://somethingsomething.net (it is also my site's home page address) -MOZ;s Open site explorer, on the other hand, shows the following: 8 internal links and 0 external links for page specific metrics, and 878 total links 0 external for root domain metrics. -Google Webmaster tools shows 10 external links pointing to my site Please can someone explain to me what is happening here? Thanks a lot

Ranking a specific inner page for a specific website
Hi, I'm new here and it's my first question. I'm not so new in SEO, the thing that I know now is google has changed its game plan. lol. My question is: I have a specific website (aged website but not well-optimized overall), and I want the inner page (with good on page optimization for a certain kw) to rank for the main kw that it's optimized for. How to do this these days? Should we build more kw to this page like usual? If yes, then what best practices to do it? thx guys

Why have my rankings suddenly plummeted?
My site has been ranking well for the last couple of weeks on it's primary term "glee fansite" and now the rankings literally plummeted 5 days ago and now it is around 22 for "glee fansite" and many of it's other terms have just dropped out completely! Is it likely the rankings will come back if I keep on with my current strategy or will I need to start from scratch? Thanks! HMFwM.png?1 HMFwM.png?1

Value of a Wikipedia page
Is there any value in creating a Wikipedia page for a company then placing a link from a Wikipedia article that is focused on a service or type of product that the company offers? I was recently searching for topics related to a companies services on Wikipedia and found some of our competitors had links within the article to their very own Wikipedia pages. Companies Wikipedia page contained a link to the companies website.
