This is an older thread, and it's probably best to either start your own thread, or email help@seomoz.org directly and we can help you that way. Thanks!

Hi Tim
I just googled "semoz reporting wrong data" and found this thread. I'm finding the same problems with a client of mine. Seomoz ranking report is way off what the real rankings are. To put the personalised search theory to bed I rung a friend at the other end of the country to run a search on a couple of keywords and he reported the same rankings as mine and not the ones SEOmoz is reporting.
Very puzzling indeed.
did anyone from SEOmoz get back to you?
Thanks
Anthony

i have not been using the difficulty tool, i have just been working on keywords that i need customers to find so they come to my site.
Thanks for checking the gastric band hypnotherapy for me, it has left me puzzled why the report above says i am not at number one, very strange. will send an email to customer services on here and find out why it has gone wrong.

Hi Diane
How are you doing on the exact same keywords on the Keyword Difficulty tool?
Searching on clean browser (from Denmark), you're #1 on google on the term:
gastric band hypnotherapy
-
i have just used the rank checker and it is bringing me the restuls that i can see when i search google. this is strange as the semoz rank checher tells me that my keyword gastric band hypnotherapy is number one but the above information tells me it is number nine
-
i have tried doing what it says on the link but still getting same results. can anyone please put into google uk gastric band hypnotherapy and let me know what the top three results are.
and also can anyone let me know even though i have followed the above advice on the link why i am getting the same results please

Most likely your data is the ones that are incorrect. SEOmoz brings back non personalized, non location based results...
-
Hi Diane,
First of all my question is: how are you searching for your terms? - I have got a feeling you have personalized search.
Read through the following article to clear the difference and how to search non personalized: http://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/non-personalized-search-google-global-results-chrome-1201/
I hope this helps a little-bit
Gr.,
Istvan

Is Search Visibility actually weighted by search volume at all? Everyone seems to think so, but that seems completely wrong?
As I've been exploring Moz more, I've been looking into search visibility and what it actually represents. While searching for answers on Moz, I've seen several posts that all seem to think the search volume for keywords matters at all for the search visibility metric, and I'm wondering why anyone thinks that, when everything from Moz seems to indicate otherwise. https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/search-visibility describes the calculation as taking the CTR for each keyword, based on rank, summing those, and dividing by the number of keywords. This describes a simple, and completely unweighted by search volume, average. This means that if you are tracking 10 keywords, and rank #1 on 5 that have a search volume of 0-10, and are unranked on 5 that have a search volume of 70,801-118,000, that would generate exactly the same search visibility score as if you rank #1 on the 5 high volume, and are unranked on the 5 low volume. The above all makes search visibility look like a much less valuable metric than if it were appropriately weighted by volume, as well as potentially very misleading, since the % relates solely to the number of keywords in your analyzed segment, rather than to the % of search volume that you're obtaining (unless a) all of your keywords are the same rank, or b) all of your keywords have the same volume). Am I missing something, or is everyone just giving Moz way too much credit when it comes to the value of the search visibility metric?

Keywords Data Tool: Why is volume metrics unavailable for all of my keywords?
When I use the SEOMoz Pro Tool for Keyword Resarch, I get the notice that the tool is getting improvements. But when I run my keywords all of the volume metric data is unavailable. Why is this?

How often does SEOMoz refresh their link analysis data?
I know that my link profile has changed within the last month, yet both SEOMoz campaign link analysis and Open Site Explorer have shown the exact same number of links for more than a month. Majestic SEO fluctuates as I would expect, but Moz data is unchanged.

Idea for the Best Method of getting REAL Keyword Search Data
I've been using googles keyword tools to get keyword search data, but I'm pretty sceptical of some of the results it throws out on number of searches. On a number of keywords - particularly when you get to longtail, I've seen results which cannot possibly be right. So - I am trying to find out a way of getting REAL data I can trust. Here are my thoughts on a possible method of getting this key data:

1/. Firstly I am taking on the assumption that the adwords campaign monitoring statistics are more reliable and accurate than the keyword research tools - correct me if I am wrong! 2/. Then take a load of keywords you wish to monitor and create didfferent ads for them based of EXACT match. 3/. Make sure non of your adverts conflict with each other, so you may have to turn off any other campaigns you have running. 4/. Put you bids and available spend as high as possible, so that ideally you will your ads will always be shown for every search match, and ideally always come in No1 spot on the ads. IE your aim is to create a neutral environment where your ads are shown for every search match and appear in the exact same position for each search match. Run the campaign for a period of time long enough to be confident that you have enough search data. From this you should have the vital data on keyword searches done on your exact match keywords. 5/. Repeat the test, but this time use phrase matches and again make sure there are no conflicts. 6/. Repeat again with broad match - this would require very careful implimentation not to have any conflicts and you would likely need to make heavy use of the "Not Include" keywords. What are your thoughts on the above process? - Any flaws, or other better solutions? Obviously one key thing with doing this is you need to have to be prepared to have a decent budget to get this data - but it won't be wasted as you will also be getting the adwords traffic. Thanks0 -
Keyword Data from Previous Months
Is it possible to view keyword statistics from previous months. I'm interested in analyzing the trend of particular keywords from the beginning of this year up until the present.

My Campaign just picked up the .com.au site and is showing data
I've got a campaign set up here in SEOmoz and it appears that it just started picking up data for a site that is not mine. Our site is examplesite.com and i noticed that SEOmoz has begun including examplesite.com.au and is showing 20,000 302's from this site. The .com.au site is in no way related to our business and should not be tracked in our campaign. Has this happened to anyone else?
