Long page - good or bad?
-
Our attorney wrote a dozen articles that range from 300 to 700 words on various topics of the certain law area. These articles are all placed on our FAQ page with anchored table of contents.
This page does frequently come up on the first page of the google when people search for the questions discussed in these articles. 90% of these visits are not local therefore they are not potential clients. Attorney views it more like a community service then a marketing tool.
However, I think there might be a problem. People read though the page and close it because usually they can find what they were looking for right there, however GA counts it as bounce because they did not browse to another page.
Would large number of bounces hurt our standing with Google? Would it be better to separate the page into multiple pages for each article to make visitors browse?

These short articles are a great resource.
If this was my site I would place each article on a separate page. I would also find at least one image to display with it (a photo or graphic) - and write a generous caption to appear under that image.
This makes the article page a little more substantive.
The value of these pages in my opinion is the potential links that they will attract.
I would also create a side menu that has links to the other short articles. I would also look for opportunities to link to them with in the text of other articles.
Also, if these articles are getting a lot of bounces I would ask myself if they should be more substantive. Lots of people think that 300 words or 500 words is fantastic for an article... but to my standards that is skimpy. My goal would be to make each of these articles a best-on-the-web resource for that topic. That is how links are earned.

You need to keep in mind that the nature of blog posts/articles, is that users typically look for information and once they find it they leave. In general these type of pages have a bounce rate >80%. So it won't affect your standing with Google.
However in working with legal sites, what I have found is that they purposely write long pieces of copy because they can. To be honest most people wouldn't read through all of it, due to their lack of understanding and patience from all the technical terms. The target market is typically middle class income earners.
So just recommend to your client to write content that get's to the point, rather than creating additional pages. More pages does not mean you have a better standing with Google. However if you know for a fact that users typically ask certain questions, then put these on FAQ page.

Vahe

Decent Bounce Rate but extremely low visit duration and page depth?
I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding the Bounce Rate, Visit Duration, and Page Depth metrics in Google Analytics. GA is reporting that my site's bounce rate is pretty decent - currently 36%. Yet when I drill down into audience behavior engagement, I am seeing that the vast majority of visit durations are 0-10 seconds, and the page depth is only 1 for a majority of visitors. If this were the case, wouldn't my bounce rate be higher?

Getting Rid Of Bad Backlinks - should I pay?
I have had a sudden increase in "bad" incoming links to my site. And at the same time my ranking has taken a dive. I have not done any link building in the last few months, and I have used multiple tools to track incoming links, and they show a major increase in incoming links from "toxic" sites in the past couple of months. I have documented this entire process with reports and emails, and have contacted all the Sites concerned requesting that they kindly remove the links. Most have replied that we must pay them between $5 - $25 per link to be removed and some of the Sites have multiple links to us. I am not sure what we should do and am concerned that if we pay these companies to remove the link, they could create more links as it appears many are connected to multiple spam type directory Sites. On the other hand many Sites advise not to use the Disavow Tool unless you are sure you need to use it and that even if used the results may take a very long time. Our decline in our SEO ranking is really affecting our business and I would really appreciate advice as to what to do?

UK & Ireland Websites displaying same page differently in serps
Hi there, I have a Magento Enterprise store based in the UK and we have an Irish version which we created after finding an increasing amount of traffic from Ireland. One thing that I don't understand, is that if I search for one keyword on Google, the websites are displayed differently, when effectively they are identical websites. Here is how a result looks like for my UK store: http://i.imgur.com/NKSt4Qq.png And here is how a result looks like for my IE store: http://i.imgur.com/Cynv8Mz.png They both have the same Meta description, barring a few geographical words and terms. Both have on page descriptions as well as products. Yet the IE results display the description and the UK results display products and a tiny snippet of the description. Any ideas on how I can make my UK pages display like the IE one? Or, just why they are both displayed differently? Thanks

When auditing a website, when do you decide to delete pages?
Given that the Panda algorithm includes engagement and user experience, when would you consider deleting a page that has poor engagement and conversion metrics? For example, consider a page that ranks well organically and receives (relatively) decent traffic from search. However, this page has poor engagement metrics compared to other pages on the site, does not convert visitors as well as other pages on the site, and doesn't have any external links. Would you consider deleting this page? Which metrics do you use when auditing a site and considering a web page from removal (bounce rate, average time on site, pages per visit, linking root domains, visits, revenue per visit, etc.)? Are some metrics weighed more than others? What kind of thresholds do you use? Finally, is there a situation when you would choose NOT to delete pages, even considering the above?

Dating Blog Posts & How Fast Google Picks up on New Pages
I had until a few months ago included the original post date of a new blog post on the site. I then removed it and none of my results in Google now include the blog post date, although for some (for articles written about events) Google includes the date of the event where you would usually see the post date. Since I did this, it seems like new blog posts are taking longer to rank on Google, some results are ranking well, and others declined relative to what I would have previously expected. What's the best thing to be doing? To include a date (considering a lot of my content is not time-relevant) or to keep it as it is now? The second thing, is I often go through and update my articles with new information and re-post it in my rss feed etc - ie the date becomes new again. How does Google treat this? Any ideas or comments would be great! Thanks

BT Buckets is a good deal?
Hello World! May you guys tell me if I can trust in BT Buckets data, and if it's a good solution? We're integrating this solution to our website, but it seems that the API is out-of-date, like it's abandoned by the owner since 2010. Thanks.
