Youtube no follow now! =( Any good PR Replacements?
-
Our youtube page was PR7 and passing on quite a bit of Pagerank to our site. I didn't think it turning nofollow would effect us much, but we've experienced a sitewide rankings drop on a newer ecommerce store.
Anyone familiar with the youtube trick know of another good site for building Pagerank?

Hey Erick,
The new YouTube profile structure is a pain in the ass - unfortunately it's now "nofollow" across the board, which comes as no surprise (as so many people were spamming it), but nonetheless prevents you from passing Pagerank off the back of a popular channel.
I'm afraid that I don't think there's an easy solution or alternative easy to game site that will provide the same value, so contrite as it is to say, I think we're back to the "build great content" manifesto in order to generate the same high quality followed links.
The list Charles gives away there is unfortunately redundant in the main, as it's from several years ago and most of those sites are now unrecognisably different. There are some video submission sites out there, but none of those are going to be a replacement for the YouTube profile link strategy, which was extremely easy to game and at huge scale.
However, there is a new thing you can do to get value out of YouTube and that is getting "as seen on" attribution (which is a link to a blog where the video has been featured - visible in the bottom right of any video). Find videos with thousands/millions of views that currently don't have an "as seen on" attribution and embed them on a high authority blog with supporting text. You'll then get the "as seen on" attribution, which is a followed link through a 303 redirect - so probably doesn't pass any Pagerank - but is still a referring link, which can be valuable if you scale it up significantly.
Hope that's useful.
Cheers,
Phil

Here's a list of do follow video sharing sites Hope that helps.
I've haven't tried any of these, but I would stick with Youtube + a few of these other sites. You can still gain a lot of benefits from YouTube such as brand awareness/promotion and traffic referrals.
Have you tried using videos to rank for keywords your targeting? It's significantly easier to rank for keywords with a video than with a website.

Do you think this is a good idea?
I have an idea that might help people evaluate casually the strength of backlinks. I'm thinking of building an upvoting list of backlink pages. People can vote on how they feel the strength of the backlink site has personally helped them. This would not be algorithmic or scientific, just a community of people rating their actual success with the strength of the backlinks for particular sites. Thoughts? Thanks!

No follow external links
Hi all, Our blog utilizes a fair amount of guest blog articles. Each article includes a link to the authors site. Some memebers of our team believe it is best practice to no follow all of these links while others believe we should follow the links, Our page rank and domain authority are almost always much higher then the guest blogger's site so we want to know the pros and cons of nofollow vs follow of these links. Since the domain authority and page rank of guest blog sites are low will this have a negative effect on our site? They aren't spammy and are legitimate sites covering similar content. Any feedback would be greaty appreciated!

Is this link Followed?
Hi All, Noticed this link in opensiteexplorer. Its not marked as no-follow, but not sure if this link would pass any value? http://goafrica.about.com/od/southafrica/a/selfdrivesa.htm Click on any external link, it takes you to a "preview" page from within the main website. Is this a false positive? As in it shows as a follow link, but when you actually click it, it doesnt redirect to the website. Any thoughts on this? Greg

What linkbuilding techniques are working right now after google's recent update?
I'm facing some issues after the google's recent update, been using blog networks, blog comments, web 2.0 submissions, directory submissions etc What techniques works now? i don't see any improve from web 2.0 these days may be we need to get enhance ? may be curated content? to what extent i understand this, i think they all are low quality backlinks which all the other blackhat markets use previous, and it even gets worst if we keep on doing this --- for the last 1-2 weeks i've stoped linkbuilding just searching for something concrete with this regard, because backlinks that are DoFollow is necessary to have! any thoughts on working techniques that won't harm my rankings?

Do no follow links have any seo value at all?
I saw some test results of no follow links from some years back and it seemed to indicate that Google still counts the anchor text in no follow links provided the page is already indexed and has do follow links pointing to it. The test results seemed to indicate that Google does count the links and uses the anchor text to cause the page to rank higher in the serps for those key words. any truth to this? If i don't expect any traffic whatsoever from a no follow link should i not build it? Take care, Ron
