Is this link Followed?
-
Hi All,
Noticed this link in opensiteexplorer. Its not marked as no-follow, but not sure if this link would pass any value?
http://goafrica.about.com/od/southafrica/a/selfdrivesa.htm
Click on any external link, it takes you to a "preview" page from within the main website.
Is this a false positive? As in it shows as a follow link, but when you actually click it, it doesnt redirect to the website.
Any thoughts on this?
Greg

I actually think it's more to do with branding than something to do with parsing link juice.
About.com is a big brand and so having that branded shell/frame to an external site reminds the user how useful About.com has been to help them find the information. "All hail About.com!" and so on and so on.

Thanks Tom,
I've noticed a few sites doing this lately. Mostly with a separate directory or "resource" page. I assume its because they don't want people to leave their website? If they were trying to avoid link juice from parsing, surely they would just make the link no-follow?
Here's another example: This one doesn't have such a long URL though..

Hi Greg
Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether or not this would add SEO value to your site.
If we look at the source code, the link on the page goes to: http://goafrica.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=goafrica&cdn=travel&tm=61&f=00&su=p531.60.342.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&st=12&zu=http%3A//www.driveafrica.co.za/buy-back/general-overview.html
It is effectively opening your website in an about.com frame, we can see this in opening the source code on the above URL. Google have severe difficulty in reading frames (which may have to do with that URL not being indexed on Google).
Honestly, I'm not sure whether or not a backlink to your site would be detected by the Googlebot. If it's detected by OSE there's a chance it might, but because it goes to a framed version of your website I am not certain whether Google would be able to count it.
Would love to hear from Mozzers with experience on this.

We're looking at providing SEO for a website that has the majority of its incoming links from websites created solely to provide links. Few have bad spam rankings. How worried should I be about those links?
The majority of incoming links to a prospect's website are from website pages apparently created solely to provide links to the website. Few have high spam scores. The sites linking to the main site have versions of blogs with linked text. They seem to be providing positive SEO value now, but I'm concerned they might get noticed and hurt the main site in the future.

Are stackoverflow links follow or nofollow?
I've tried to find the answer to this question myself, but I've found differing opinions. The conclusion I've come to is that Stackoverflow allows follow links when the user that posts the link has sufficient reputation or if the link receives user validation. Has anyone else here used Stackoverflow.com that knows the answer to this question? 🙂

Spammy links
Hi I was reviewing a clients link profile and found a lot of the links they have pointed at their domain have the anchor text "Buy Viagra" or "buy viagra online" and similar. Now the website has absolutely nothing to do with this kind of business so no doubt these links are spammy. To my knowledge the website has not been penalised by Google so far. Is it best to disavow or just leave alone? Kind Regards

Thoughts on creating a resource/recommend links page in order to attain links?
Hey guys, Just wondering, how does Google view reciprocal link building nowadays? I've heard in the past that it's something that Google isn't particularly keen on. However, more recently, I've also read that - as long as the links are decent (and in moderation) - link exchanging is by no means a bad thing. The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of creating a "resource/recommended links page" for a client of mine. Because of their industry, it's really apparent that attaining links is often only possible if there is the opportunity of a reciprocal link in return. Therefore, I'd need to have a resource/recommend links page of my own. Is this something I should go ahead with to make it much easier to attain links? Or should I try to avoid reciprocal links and attempt to pinpoint one-way linking opportunities - even if they're thin on the ground? Any help much as appreciated as always. Cheers.

I have just read an article that says no follows now leak link juice?
I have just been reading a really interesting article about link juice. The way I read the piece the author was saying that there has been a change in the way link juice is blocked with 'no follows.' The author seemed to say that there has been a change and now even if you add a 'no follow' onto a page that the page will still send link juice to that page. I may have read this wrong. I just wanted to check if anyone else had heard this at all? Many thanks

Do footer links pass less link juice?
One of my best inbound links for PA and DA happens to be a footer link, curious if it's less valuable or has any value at all.

Multiple Links from High Ranking Site Vs. Links from Multiple Domains - What's More Important?
I understand it is important to get links from many quality domains. Currently, I do have links from top domains (PR, Trust) and it I can get more from (high rank) pages on these same domains. Would it be better to focus on expanding my reach (find additional domains to link from) or to continue to build links from the current domains I have a connection with? What is weighted more? I realize doing both is important, but trying to figure out how to best use my time. Thanks! David

Diversified Link Profile?
Hello,, I was wondering what type of ratio I should follow when building links to a page on my site? Broad, Exact, Phrase, Image? Is there a percentage I should shoot for? When you build links do you generally setup an excel spread sheet and watch to see what sticks using the seomoz link too? Last question, When I am building links, should the anchor text in the content Im publishing be a keyword I am trying to rank for in a search? Typically I try to rank for only 2-3 words per page. Sorry for all the questions, any help would be appreciated! I have a competitor that is spamming to death with Press Releases quite often, and the are bouncing ahead of us with Very Low Page Authority. Thank You!!
