When will Rand put out "Art of SEO 2nd Edition"? (ANSWER: IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS)
-
First edition was printed in the end of 2009. Great Book.
Needs updating of course.
I would buy the next edition if it was updated in an awesome way that I know Rand and the others would do.
-
That's very exciting! I will be purchasing a copy. I never purchased/read the 1st edition but I've found Danny Dover's SEO Secrets excellent - so helpful and heard equally good reviews about "Art of SEO". Time to pre-order from Amazon!
-
Yep! That's actually the only major contribution I made to the book. Stephan, Jessie and Eric are the folks behind this one more so than me (though I did do some review and work on the social stuff).
-
Looking at the table of contents, and the preview pages, it appears that a sizeable change was made to add a chapter on Social Media (new chapter 8). About 50 pages.
The rest of the table of contents and preview content looks very similar to the current edition.
I may have missed something, so feel free to chime in.
-
Wow, I can't beleive I didn't see that before!

You can place a pre-order on Amazon for the "2nd Edition Art of SEO" . Publication date is set for March 26,2012. I don't know when it will ship but I am going to order it along with a copy of Danny Dover's-Search Engine Optimization Secrets. Paperback | I still like holding a book in my hand.

Indexing "Without WWW" while it is already redirected to the "WWW" version
Hi Guys My websites are being indexed without "WWW" while the 'http://abc.com' is redirected to 'http://www.abc.com'. Now what I believe is that the URL encoded in my website files are written as 'http://abc.com' rather than 'http://www.abc.com' And since now Google has removed the "Set Preferred Domain" option from the Webmaster Tools, I can't set the preferred version of the URL. Oh & Some pages are indexed with "WWW" & Some are indexed "without WWW" Now I think that it's not an issue, but a lot of people have been saying that this may hurt the rankings.. Some comments/tips would be really appreciated

What Keeps In-House SEOs Up @ Night
We are writing a research summary piece on in-house seo strategies. We're not trying to solve the worlds problems - we simply want to know what problems you face and how you try and solve them. We've broken our research into three key areas (training, value, and measurement). We would greatly appreciate your insights, thoughts, and recommendations. We will share our final paper (with sources) when completed. Here are the questions we're asking: How do you train and support your seo team? How do you show SEO value in the wake of Google algo changes including (keyword not provided)? How can SEO show value to other parts of the organization including market research, product managers, channel managers, etc? What should you be measuring and who should reports go to? Redirecting International ccTLD affect SEO?
I've watched Rand's Whiteboard Friday video on How to Host and Where to Host for International Websites and read Gianluca's article on International SEO; however, I am still unable to find an answer or solution to this. ABC Company is a US based company with the website www.abcexample.com and plans to target people in Hong Kong. Therefore, they purchase .hk ccTLD. However, with the time restraint and budget limit, ABC Company is unable to create a completely new website under .hk ccTLD. Scenario 1: ABC Company plans to create different pages for each service offered in HK and 302 redirect .hk ccTLD blank service page to www.abcexample.com's same service page. Quesiton 1: Will this have the same benefit of creating a .hk website? Although ABC Company is redirecting, does the .hk ccTLD still tell Serach Engines that we are targeting people in Hong Kong? Will this solution harm or help with SEO with other search engines in Hong Kong? Scenario 2: ABC creates a /hk subdirectory under www.abcexample.com and have exactly same content in the same language as www.abcexample.com but use rel="alternate" hreflang="x" and use Webmaster to Geotarget Hong Kong. Question 2: By using rel="alternate" hreflang="x" and geotarget, will this avoid duplicate content if ABC Company has exact content in the /hk folder? Please let me know if my questions and scenarios are unclear. I understand that these are not best practices. Please advise the best way to work around this. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Build a site, do SEO work on it and sell it?
Does anybody do this? With success? I keep finding industries right here in my local area (concrete work, home security, painting) that have 4-5 local companies that are competing and NONE of them are doing even the most BASIC items to seo their site or capitalize on ANYTHING online. I could pick 7-8 of these industries and have somebody who works for me spend a couple hours a week on each building links and writing a half way interesting blog post, etc. and once they rank higher than most of the competition sell em for 2-3 grand I bet, especially since I can prove how much traffic they are getting. Thoughts? Thanks for weighing in. Matthew

How to handle spam SEO companies soliciting your clients?
My clients keep getting spam email or messages in the contact form, about how they could be ranking better, they're not hitting keywords they should be, etc. Typical scare tactics trying to solicit new clients. How do you deal with this?
