Google Panelizes to much SEO
-
I just read this interesting article about a new Google Penalty that will be up in the next upcoming weeks/months about Google making changes to the algorithm.
The penalty will be targeted towards websites that are over optimized or over seo'ed. What do you think about this? Is this a good thing or is this not a good thing for us as SEO marketeers?
here's the link: SEL.com/to-much-seo
I'm really curious as to your point of views.
regards
Jarno

I'm not saying that a keyword matched domain should receive a penalty, I'm saying that it should be a more neutral ground when it comes to ranking factors.
If your site happens to have a keyword matched domain but has great content and value for a visitor then it should rightly rank higher for relevant queries - and if they changed the weighting on the matched domains then it should(in theory) weed out the thinner value sites.
Matt Cutts did mention in that interview the phrase 'level playing field' - not that I personally believe this could ever be achieved with an algorithm
-
Daniel,
though i can imagine your thinking in this i do not agree with you. One of our main websites is focused on camping at the farmer (in dutch it's like: kamperen bij de boer) and we have a domain name that is similar to that. So our website:
www.kamperen-bij-de-boer.com is build for user but it does use the exact keyword people are looking. If Google changes the algorithm to penalize websites that use keyword "stuffed" domains then my website, build for users, would be demoted. That's not fair is it?
I do agree with you however in some cases. There are a lot off websites that keyword stuff the domain or use - to separate domain names from competitors. So in some cases i totally agree with you but there are still some websites that have a domain name that is the main keyword. What would happen to them?
-
Speaking from a users perspective, thats the one I would like to see changed the most myself.
So meny times there is some exact match keyword domain with poor content ranking high on the first page on seemingly the weight of that factor alone.
If the changes are along those lines it will make SEO 'easyer' unless you were using such technicques yourself.
My other guess is that they're going to improve their 'best guesses' for those pages without semanticaly correct html e.t.c. That would 'even the playing feild' but still would favour optimised content.
-
Agreed.
-
I'd like to see a lot less weight being put into keyword matched domains for a start..
-
Aran,
for example it could mean the number of times the keyword is displayed in a page. I might think i use it naturally but Google might decide otherwise..
on the article of searchengineland some of the feedbacks enroll external linking to your site. By buying links to your competitors your might invoke them as harmful websites. I don't think Google is stupid but it could be influential.
Off course it goes without saying that the only way we are going to find out what it entails it buy waiting for it and then testing. I agree with your white-hat theory. Keep using white-hat and you should always be fine.
-
Hi Jarno,
You Say "there are some factors that SEO's use that can be an issue", what do you image these could be?
Cheers
Aran
-
Aran,
i totally agree with you on the points you made but since Google is letting out more and more information about wanting to level the SEO market I was very curious as to what other SEO's think about this.
I can image that Google is going to make a point out of a lot of things but there are some factors that SEO's use that can be an issue. That is what i can imagine about it anyway.
thanks for the reply

Don't quote me on this but Google has been heading this way for quite some time, has it not?
Remember keyword stuffing, content farms, dodgy link practices?
As long as we build websites that
- Function correctly
- Have good unique content
- Are easy to use
We are on the right track and have little to worry about.
I'll carry on with my current strategy of putting the effort into content and doing my damnest to get people to notice it and perhaps give me a link, +1, tweet, like or bookmark.

Does google sandbox aged domains too?
Hello, i have a question. Recently i bought a domain from godaddy auction which is 23 years old and have DA 37 PA 34 Before bidding i check out the domain on google using this query to make sure if pages of this website are showing or not (site:mydomain.com) only home page was indexed on google. Further i check the domain on archive web the domain was last active in 2015. And then it parked for long about 4 years. So now my question does google consider these type of domain as new or will sandboxed them if i try to rebuild them and rank for other niche keywords ? Because its been 4 weeks i have been building links to my domain send several profile and social signals to my domain. My post is indexed on google but not showing in any google serp result.

Why Link Spamming Website Coming on First Page Google?
As we all already know about link spamming. As per Google Guidelines Link building, Exact Keywords Anchor Link Building is dead now but i am looking most of the website coming on first page in Google doing same exact keywords linking. I think directory, article, social bookmarking, press release and other link building activity is also dead now. Matt always saying content is more important but if we will not put any keywords link in content part then how website rank in first page in Google. Can anybody explain why is website coming on first page because when i am doing same activity for quality links with higher domain authority website then we are affected in Google update.

My website disapeared from google rankings, please help?
Our website url is http://www.phoria.com Around January 16th we disappeared from google for the keyword 'kratom' We were on page 3 for the longest time. We have no critical messages in webmaster tools however I did notice most of our links seem to be website directory links. We still rank for a couple terms like buy kratom on page 6.I think a google update occurred around this time so I've read however if we had a variety of links that went against google guidelines wouldn't we have received a message stating so in Webmaster Tools? This month has been very confusing to say the least. Any help would be appreciated.

Google Sitemaps & punishment for bad URLS?
Hoping y'all have some input here. This is along story, but I'll boil it down: Site X bought the url of Site Y. 301 redirects were added to direct traffic (and help transfer linkjuice) from urls in Site X to relevant urls in Site Y, but 2 days before a "change of address" notice was submitted in Google Webmaster Tools, an auto-generating sitemap somehow applied urls from Site Y to the sitemap of Site X, so essentially the sitemap contained urls that were not the url of Site X. Is there any documentation out there that Google would punish Site X for having essentially unrelated urls in its sitemap by downgrading organic search rankings because it may view that mistake as black hat (or otherwise evil) tactics? I suspect this because the site continues to rank well organically in Yahoo & Bing, yet is nonexistent on Google suddenly. Thoughts?

Could this be negative SEO?
Hi, I've attached a copy of our Google ranking for one of our keywords for our site and a competitor. Also shown is the number of external links over time for the same 2 sites. There seems to be a striking resemblance between the 2 sites so could this be the result of negative SEO? What's the best way to determine whether you've been targeted for negative SEO? Thanks, site-analysis.jpg

It Shows as "google results" but it's an incoming links, is it spaming me...?
Hello everyone I have 2 issues to share: 1) We have a site (personal-loans.org), In the past few weeks we notice that there are sites that have links to our site and we get traffic from them but...! when you go online to these sites they show you that all they do is provide "google search" results, because we where in first page on the results we had hits there as well what leads me to think that this is the reason we are at page 7 now after yesterday the ranking was at page 4. these are some of these sites so you can see it: internetpayadvances.com fastlivecashadvance.com assistancemoney.com scoutcashnow.com officialpayday.net Does anyone else got to see anything like that...??? I have many more links like that, these are only 5 out of 9 that had hits yesterday only, site traffic went from 250-300 to 63 a day... For the same site - it was on google search results 1st page and ranked 4-7, even after the big penguin changes. What we did notice is that A LOT of non related sites like surfing (yes ocean surfing) and sites that had no content AT ALL - all the text was inside of an image and ranked 3! 3rd on payday loans search result. (and the rest was and still just looks the same with different content...) Google say they want quality but does not do homework for the 2nd largest search for keywords such as loans and payday loans market, same goes for the cash advance. Please help, need your advice.... Thanks
