How on earth can http://www.plimun.com/ be at #6 for "web design", with only 15 total linking root domains, and no mention of the term in link text?!

Hmm. OSE only reports 323 external links site-wide. But I get 1620 from SEO Spyglass (which are likely to be mostly trash).

Quality over quantity - again!
And links from pages that will visited, that will get you clicks and referral traffic, are therefore likely to be the most valuable (in the real world and in the Google algorithm).

They have over 58,000 backlinks (recorded) and most of them with the anchor text "web design". I think that should answer your question.

I tend to gravitate towards content first, then links. And, as this site proves, having a few popular links is more important than having a lot of allinanchors with your keywords. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Google has devalued allinanchors since most social signal links rarely, if ever, have them.

Authority is also a function of diversity. If I were the owner of that site, I wouldn't be resting on my laurels. At this point, a gust of SEO wind could probably knock them from their perch.

Also, none of the inbound link text includes the keyphrase. All the link text is the domain name, according to OSE.
So is Google really just combining the on-page "aboutness" with the high value of the handful of inbound links, and assuming this is more about "web design" than the plethora of other sites?
(I'm not competing on this, just using it for research.)

Thanks Highland. So they've developed a couple of extensions and get a few backlinks from a DA:100 site.
If that's enough to get to #6 on Google, I wonder why it hasn't also raised the Domain Authority of plimun.com?

They have several one-way links from joomla.org, which is a naturally popular site (they have a Moz authority of 100, which is the highest you can get).
They also have a dedicated content page for web design

Rankings & Linking Root Domains
How are the Linking Root Domains under Keyword Rankings being found? We've noticed for many of our key terms that big brands like Amazon, eBay, Home Depot, etc. only list 1 linking root domain, while much smaller competitors in our industry have hundreds. Clearly big brands are going to get more links than a company most people haven't heard of and the idea that these companies only have 1 linking root domain to a specific subcategory on their site is not believable. Why do keyword competition rankings differ between Google and SeoMoz?
I am a novice at keyword ranking etc. so I appreciate your patience! I checked a longtail keyword - how do i get out of this relationship - in Google AdWords and it came back 'low competition.' When I entered it in SeoMoz it came back as 'very competitive.' Any thoughts? I appreciate your help.

Improving SERP rankings via strategic SEO tactics
Hi, We just build some of our new content pages on our website 1.https://www.practo.com/ray/dental-software 2.https://www.practo.com/ray/dermatology-software 3.https://www.practo.com/ray/homeopathy-software Could someone explain how do I build around a good SEO strategy to compete with others for better positions on the SERP's. I have not done anything apart from fixing proper title tags , and meta descriptions etc and of course putting down relevant fresh content onto these pages. These pages were published about 3 weeks ago - Only this url ranks on the 2nd page as of now for keywords like "dermatology software" https://www.practo.com/ray/dermatology-software The rest of the URL's do not rank anywhere till the 10th SERP too! What could be wrong and where could I have the opportunity to boost the SEO tactics since all the pages which rank above it are just not providing the right kind of product as we are and still they take up the top positions and genuine users miss out on our domain. Does SEOMoz (or anyone) offer a measurement of "overlapping" links between 2+ domains?
I'm trying to judge how much incremental value we'd see from 301'ing an old domain vs. revitalizing the old domain's content. My gut feeling is that most of the links to the two sites are from the same set of websites so it wouldn't add much value to 301 the old domain. I've seen the opposite of this done with Competitive Link Analysis (e.g show links that you don't have that your competitor does have). Is there a tool available that can take 2 or more sites and tell me for instance - 72% of the inbound links or linking root domains are the same?

Why does website rank? PA-39 DA-24
This website is pretty nice, well done. The few links they do have are nice and clean, from his brothers website, very much white hat. However, it appears that they aren't doing much of anything from an SEO standpoint. This site, is PA31 DA21 is also doing unusually well. In both cases, these guy are outranking the best know, most famous, and most trusted company in the industry who is PA84 DA81. This is a HUGE company that wins the most awards and gets tons of media coverage both in print and on televisiton shows. I'm also noticing that the websites that are ranking well in my niche (every keyword) all have the name of their company at the beginning of the title tag, those with the name of the company at the end of the title tag are consistantly a few ranks lower. This seems to be consistant across all search terms. My niche is highly competitive for a very low amount of traffic. Adwords is crazy expensive for some of these keywords! That said, one valid sale generates a significant amount of money. Would love to hear your thoughts. I'm thinking the first company is being treated so well becase G considers them to be virgins, the purist of white?
