New Magento store with lots of duplicate contect

Hi,
I am fairly new to SEOmoz and would really appreciate some pointers.
I have just received the results of my first crawl and I have over 1800 pages of duplicate content.
this is an example
Cream poplin slim fit mens business shirt from Jermyn Street Shirt Co.
http://jsshirts.com.au/aylesbury-cream-poplin-slim-fit-shirt.html
Heading other URL's indicates 10
My questions are what does this figure 10 represent? what do I need to do to remove this duplicate content.

Magento 1.4 and above has native support for canonical tags but it has to be be enabled. Â Goto System > Configuration >Catalog > Search Engine Optimization and enable Use Canonical Link Meta Tag For Categories and Use Canonical Link Meta Tag For Products

Yeah, canonicals are the key.
We use this extension on our Magento shop which lets us control the Canonical URLs properly as well as generating some good google friendly sitemaps

Hi Jason,
Unfortunately the campaign link doesn't work but typically the duplicate content issues in Magento will arise around category (when refining search criteria) & product pages (when selecting different options - collar size, shirt material, color etc).
For example, all these URLs contain the same Title & Meta Description but essentially display the same textual content:
- http://jsshirts.com.au/cufflinks.html?cufflink_material=92
- http://jsshirts.com.au/cufflinks.html?cufflink_material=94&dir=desc&order=position
- http://jsshirts.com.au/cufflinks.html?cufflink_material=92&dir=desc&order=position
- http://jsshirts.com.au/cufflinks.html?cufflink_material=94&cufflink_range=88&dir=desc&order=position
- http://jsshirts.com.au/cufflinks.html?cufflink_material=94&dir=desc&mode=list&order=position
- etc etc
A canonical tag will help attribute a single URL as the content originator
Other options could be to control the refining via JQuery or nofollow those links. It all depends on more thorough investigation of course

Multiple listings for the same product - how to avoid duplication?
Hi everyone, We are working on an e-commerce site that has three different physical stores that each hold different products in stock. A listing is created on the website for each product in each location but if the same product is in all three stores the images and description are duplicate content We can't have one product page and tag locations to it as this would then require keeping two different stock systems updated, but is there a way to avoid the three pages being duplicates of each other? Duplicate Legal Content
Oftentimes lawyer websites will publish laws (codes, statutes, regulations, case law, etc). They add no value to the text, it's just copy pasted. Therefore, the same text/content may be on potentially hundreds of websites. Does google interpret this as duplicate content, or does it recognize government content as special? I want to have the laws on my website as well, however I am debating whether to add no follow tags or not. Or I'm thinking about adding value to the content by breaking down the specific law. However, even then at least 50% of the content on the page will still be the law, and I'm not sure if that is enough to be considered duplicate content.

Duplicate content problem
Hi, i have a serious problem. I work in joomla and sometimes it can be annoying. When you set up a category, you need to give it a name and maybe this is a huge error on my part as i did not really think about the names beforehand. The situation i have now is, all my sections are in front page mode, but because you have to name the categories in order to write articles, i am now left with a load of blog sections such as http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news Now i have a main section called Benidorm news so i have duplicate sections, i want to know if i can redirect the http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news to go to the main benidorm section or if there is a better way of doing it. i have left this blod layout the way it is to show you, but the others i just have it where it shows the title and then goes to the article. I work in k2 and would be grateful if anyone can let me know the solution to this as semoz is showing that i have many duplicate titles and content many thanks

Typepad.com blog migration & duplicate content
I've migrated a typepad.com blog with a bunch of content (but little traffic) onto a hosted WordPress site under my own domain name (the way I should've done it in the first place). Now I don't want to confuse Google that the new site is duplicating content from the other site, so would I be better off with: 1) meta-refresh redirecting each typepad.com post to the same post on the new blog, or 2) just killing the typepad.com blog entirely so Google will not find duplicate posts anywhere. In favor of #2 is the fact that these posts get very little traffic today. I figure I will lose more traffic from duplicate content ranking penalties than from losing the posts themselves in the original blog. What do you think?

Is this duplicate content?
I'm optimizing a Magento site and have a question regarding duplicate content. Currently, you can dig down to an individual product listings with URLs similar to this: (1) http://www.foo.com/category/sub-category/sub-sub-category/item.html However, we also have a "Top 50" area, with a link to the same page; however, the URL for that page is: (2) http://www.foo.com/item.html Both are dynamic, so a static page for (2) with different content is out of the question. I asked IT to have both (1) Â and (2) point to exactly the same page, within the same categor(ies), but they said I would have choose one or the other So, here are my questions: Will Google consider the pages to be duplicates of each other, and thus incur a penalty; If I were to choose one structure, which would be the "friendliest?" I've think I've come across questions similar to this in Q&A, but haven't been able to locate them; so, I'm sorry to be posting a "duplicate question." I've been busy writing completely different product descriptions, nice and deep and value-rich, for more than 300 items and categories and am only now starting to look at current SEO protocols; I'm hoping to ask Google for a site reevaluation in another 2 weeks or so. Thanks.

Duplicate Page Content WordPress blog with categories?
Just got a crawl report back from SEOmoz and it gives me lots of errors for "duplicate page content". Â Upon investigating, I notice this is because my WP blog is setup into categories so the home page is almost identical to one of the category pages. Â None of my actually posts are the same but the category pages have some overlap since the same post could show up in two or more categories. Is this a problem or can I just ignore this error? Â Any thing I should be doing differently? Thanks!

Duplicate content on forums?
I am creating a forum. Â I am concerned that when I create the forum, users will copy content from other places to post onto my forum. How negative/bad is this in terms of google eyes? I am concerned when people copy press releases and re-post it to the forum. Should I make a rule that all content must be typed and not copied? Or is a little copying okay?

Wordpress Duplicate Pages/ URL's - Help !
Hi guys, I have been running SEOMoz for just over a month and slowly cleaning up one of my Wordpress Blogs. Â While going through the crawl reports I have noticed that I have duplicate pages showing on the crawl. For example, the main post would be; www.xxxxx.com/blog/post-title Then I see another URL which would be; **www.xxxx.com/blog/page/59Â ** When I click on either URL it goes back to the actual post title URL. What's with these page URL's ? Â Isn't these two URL's showing duplicate content to the search engines ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
