Site Wide Link
-
I have just run up the link explorer on my site and discovered that every page home page link points back with the text home - I assume this is bad in terms of SEO , my site name is ccie and I assumed that it put the site wide link of ccie to the entire site, however it seems to be the breadcrumb default of home which is doing it/. www.rogerperkin.co.uk/ccie
Should I be looking to change this so my top keyword points back from each page to the home page.
I am running wordpress and assumed the site name was the home link on all pages.
Can anyone advise the best practice?
Thanks

Are you talking about links in the footer? In the sidebar? Navigation? Or content?
When you're talking site-wide links in general, you only want links that make sense to have sitewide (for example: your homepage, about us page, contact page etc.), and you don't want to use anchor text that manipulates relevancy - if you're linking to your homepage, it makes sense for the anchor text to be "home", and I don't think you'd be penalized for that.
It's worth checking out Rand's recent over-optimization whiteboard friday though - there was some very good info in there regarding site-wide links.

Link flow for multiple links to same URL
Hi there,
On-Page Optimization | | doctecs
my question is as follows: How does Google handle link flow if two links in a given page point to the same URL? (do they flow link individually or not?) This seems to be a newbie question, but actually it seems that there is little evidence and even also little consensus in the SEO community about this detail. Answers should include source Information about the current state of art at Google is preferable The question is not about anchor text, general best practises for linking, "PageRank is dead" etc. We do know that the "historical" PageRank was implemented (a long time ago) without special handling for multiple links, as e.g. last stated by Matt Cutts in this video: http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-one-page-two-links-page-counted-first-link-192718 On the other hand, many people from the SEO community say that only the first link counts. But so far I could not find any data to back this up, which is quite surprising.0 -
Do javascript pseudo-links dilute link juice ?
Hi, On our ecommerce, we use multiple pseudo-links for the layered navigation (to filter by color, site, etc), so that google doesn't crawl every combination of filters. I know this kind of links don't pass link juice and don't get crawled (provided you hide the target urls in your javascript). But, as there is an "onclick" property, I'm afraid that google could understand that these are links, and treat them the same way as nofollowed links (not following them but diluting link juice anyway). Do you know if this is the case ? Thanks,

Change in link structure due to Joomla
Hi, I have been using Joomla 1.5 until recently and the link structure would be something like - http://www.guru99.com/software-testing.html Now with Joomla 1.7 , ".html " automatically stripped and the URL become "http://www.guru99.com/software-testing" My site is due upgrade but ".html" part is a concern. Once I upgrade , Can I re-direct all ".hmtl" url like http://www.guru99.com/software-testing.html to non ".html" url like "http://www.guru99.com/software-testing" Will this ensure all the link juice is passed ? I have more than 350 URL in my site ... Please guide ... Cheers Krishna PS = the link http://www.guru99.com/software-testing will not work since the site is yet to be upgraded

Site-wide keyword density
A colleague of mine was saying that he has been able to get top ranking for a high traffic term by using variations of that head term on multiple pages that are associated with the main page. For example,he would optimize a landing page for the high traffic word "Construction." He would then build pages under this landing page that are optimized for variations of this word: "Construction facts," "Industrial Construction Companies," "Construction Resource Allocator" etc. His theory is that the subpages add credibility with spiders that the root page is the best for that root page. This doesn't seem like it would work, but I'm curious as to what other people think.

Do external links drain PageRank?
Example: A page has 100 links, 90 internal links and 10 external links. The page has a Google internal PR of 1000. The question is: Is the pagerank that flows to the internal links being calculated taking into account all links on the page (internal + external) or only the 90 internal links? E.g. is the PR that flows to the internal links 1000/100 or 1000/90? Are links to external sites "votes" that do not affect the internal PR flow? Disclaimer: I understand that the maths behind the PR algo are more complex. This simplified example only serves to explain my question.
