What's the best way to tackle duplicate pages in a blog?
-
We installed a WP blog on a website and the below result is just an example. All of them lead to the same content. What's the best way to resolve it?
http://www.calmu.edu/blog/
http://www.calmu.edu/blog/calmu-business-spotlight-veev/
http://www.calmu.edu/blog/category/business-buzz/ -
Thanks..

No, almost all blogs have this kind of problem, joomla also. But in Joomla i'm more accustomed to solve them. On Joomla i use YOOtheme ZOO that is a great Blog tool, for SEO I use Acesef, which is integrated to ZOO. I can configure this duplicate problem on Acesef Zoo Extension easily.
But using WP you will find a lot of plugins for SEO and will solve this : D

Thanks Joao. Are you saying blogs on joomla platform do not have this problem?
-
Do you think it would work. What are the negative aspects of using a redirect?
-
I did see this page but I was unsure of how to guide my developer on putting canonical links. Can you help?
-
Thanks a lot @ParagonDigital. This issue was detected after the SEOMoz crawl of the website and they are listing all these pages as duplicate pages.

Hi Sangeeta,
It looks like you are using the Wordpress All-in-One SEO Pack which should take care of most duplicate pages in Category and Archives using canonicalization.
Both of these pages:
http://www.calmu.edu/blog/calmu-business-spotlight-veev/
http://www.calmu.edu/blog/category/business-buzz/have this line added by the SEO Plugin which tells the bots that the page in the blog directory is the real page and to consider the category and archive versions of the page the same page.
rel="canonical" href="http://www.calmu.edu/blog/calmu-business-spotlight-veev/" />
The home page on a blog is always going to have some duplication for the recent posts. The only thing I know of that you could do for that would be to have Wordpress display blurbs for the post with a read more link instead of the whole post on the home page.
-
I'd make sure you have canonical links too. Google has a page dedicated to them here: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=139394

Usually creating a 301 redirect in your HTAcces file is an effective way of dealing with duplicate content. You could use the free redirect generator if you're not too familiar with writing htaccess files.

I think this plugin solves your problem, I don't use wordpress a lot, I prefer joomla but I've heard this for WP:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/platinum-seo-pack/
You can use this script on header.php to make to:
if((is_home() && ($paged < 2 )) || is_single() || is_page() || is_category()){
echo '';
} else {
echo '';
}
I would prefer to use the plugin, because you can make others things god to SEO on-page

I'm looking to put a quite length FAQs tab on product pages on an ecommerce site. Am I likely to have duplicate content issues?
On an ecommerce site we have unique content on the product pages (i.e. descriptions), as well as the usual delivery and returns tabs for customer convenience. From this we haven't had any duplicate content issues or warnings, which seems to be the case industry-wide. However, we're looking to add a more lengthy FAQs tab which is still highly relevant to the customer but contains a lot more text than the other tabs. The product descriptions are also relatively small. Do you think this will cause potential duplicate content issues or should it be treated the same as a delivery tab, for instance?

Google Doesn't Display A Right Page Title
For some reason Google Displays a wrong page title of some of my pages. E.g. page http://www.imoney.my/home-loan The title in the search reach results says "Home Loan - iMoney", but the one I've set up is <title></span><span class="webkit-html-tag">Housing Loan: Compare Mortgages of All Malaysian Banks @iMoney.my</span><span class="webkit-html-tag"></title> Even when I preview it on the preview tool, it shows the full title, but when I google - again the short one. Does anyone know what the reason for that is?

Search Pages outranking Product Pages
A lot of the results seen in the search engines for our site are pages from our search results on our site, i.e. Widgets | Search Results This has happened over time and wasn't intentional, but in many cases we see our search results pages appearing over our actual product pages in search, which isn't ideal. Simply blocking indexing of these pages via robots wouldn't be ideal, at least all at once as we would have that period of time where those Search Results pages would be offline and our product pages would still be at the back of ranking. Any ideas on a strategy to replace these Search Results with the actual products in a way that won't hurt us too bad during the transition? Or a way to make the actual product pages rank above the search results? Currently, it is often the opposite. Thanks! Craig

What is the best way to resolve duplicate content issue
Hi I have a client whose site content has been scraped and used in numerous other sites. This is detrimental to ranking. One term we wish to rank for is nowhere. My question is this: what's the quickest way to resolve a duplicate content issue when other sites have stolen your content? I understand that maybe I should firstly contact these site owners and 'appeal to their better nature'. This will take time and they may not even comply. I've also considered rewriting our content. Again this takes time. Has anybody experienced this issue before? If so how did you come to a solution? Thanks in advance.

Keyword density and it's impact?
How beneficial is properly optimised text on your website? I have been reading copy blogger and they seem to think it's almost the foundations and can have a massive impact - thus their software for improving optimised text. So... The way I see it, content can fit into 3 areas: 1. Over optimised - keyword stuffed 2. Produced without the keyword in mind and then small changes, maybe the keyword used once or twice within 500 words, slotted into the h1 tag. 3. Optimised - At the front of the h1 tag, density of roughly 3-4%, emphasised with bold and italic. What kind of impact can number 3 really have on rankings? If your position 7/8 could it be possible to see position movement from content changes? Cheers

Is my blog simply duplicate content of my authors' profiles?
www.example.com/blog is the full list of blog posts by various writers. The list contains the title of each article and the first paragraph from the article. In addition to /blog being indexed, each author's contribution list is being indexed separately. It's not a profile, really, just a list of articles in the same title & paragraph format of the /blog page. So if /blog a list of 10 articles written by two writers, I have three pages: /blog/author1 is a list of 4 articles /blog/author2 is a list of 6 different articles /blog is a list of 10 articles (the 4+6 from the two writers) Is this going to be considered duplicate content?

Which Blog Platform to link to an eCommerce site is best?
I just hired a content writer to blog on my site, but I want to make sure I have the right blog set up properly before doing so. I currently have my blog on my own domain. http://alturl.com/ixd7p It's a pretty crappy blog, to be quite frank. (The link to the blog is in the footer). It doesn't allow me to change category titles so it's throwing duplicate content - not good. I am seriously considering getting a self hosted Wordpress blog and linking that to my site instead at 3dcart- so it will be blog.domainname.comMy CONCERN.... I always heard that it's best to have the blog right right on the eCommerce site (just as I have it now) because it keeps feeding the domain fresh content. If I have a self hosted Wordpress blog and have it linked to my site, will it still feed my site fresh content?

Title tags in duplicate pages
hi there, we have a new ecommerce platform which has just been deployed, and I've been asked to tidy up the onpage SEO. we have employed canonicals across the category and product pages and we now have a nice set of unique product pages my question is - do we need to create the title tags in all of the duplicate non-canonical pages eg www.mysite.com/niceproduct.html (canonical) www.mysite.com/acategory/niceproduct.html (duplicate) Can we leave the duplicate title tag empty and not worry about it, or should we put in a duplicate of the canonical title tag hope the question makes sense! thanks in advance for all help
