What is the best way to fix legacy overly-nested URLs?

Hi everyone,
Due to some really poor decisions I made back when I started my site several years ago, I'm lumbered with several hundred pages that have overly-nested URLs. For example:
/theme-parks/uk-theme-parks/alton-towers/attractions/enterprise
I'd prefer these to feature at most three layers of nesting, for example:
/reviews/alton-towers/enterprise
Is there a good approach for achieving this, or is it best just to accept the legacy URLs as an unfixable problem, and make sure that future content follows the new structure? I can easily knock together a script to update the aliases for the existing content, but I'm concerned about having hundreds of 301 redirects (could this be achieved with a single regular express in .htaccess, for example?).
Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks Alan and Irving, your responses are both very helpful. In reality, these pages have relatively few external links pointing to them compared to other sections of the site, so I think I will opt to redirect them. The newer sections of the site have a nice clean URL structure and good on-page optimization, so I think it's best to bite the bullet and move the older pages over to a new system.

Except that hundrends of 301's means hundreds of link juice leaks

there's no problem with having hundreds of 301's.
having /theme-parks/ twice in the url is slightly spammy, but probably better than your second example where you don't have "theme parks" even once in the url. I would make it /theme-park-reviews/ unless your domain name already have "theme parks" in it.
If you're having great rankings with the current pages you may want to just leave the legacy pages and work on new structure for posts going forward, but if it's not brining you a ton of traffic that your business depends on, then I would 301 them to the new structure, should be fine and you could always revert if you see negative effects.

I would accept it, google does not mind, it is said Bing does count the folders as a signal, but with modern routing engines like MVC along with friendly urls, it is common to have many sections to a url, and Bing i assume will take that into account.

Is 301 redirect the only way when using Vanity URLs?
We have been using vanity urls for some of our pages. Mostly the pages that have a vanity URL have a long URL length. But now the problem is, the vanity URL is getting displayed on the search engine when the particular keyword related to the page is entered. I checked the google search console, the vanity URL is indexed and the original URL remains unindexed. What should I do? Is adding 301 redirect to the vanity URLs are solution? Since some of vanity URLs are not redirecting to the original. Some of the original pages are not getting traffic. Also, can using canonical tag help?

Best practices for making a very long URL shorter

Is 307 the best way to handle temporarily disabled items ?
I was wondering what would be the best way to handle temporarily disabled items. There is 302 and 307 and from what I understand 307 redirect is the HTTP 1.1 successor of the 302 redirect. Any one has any experience on how Google handles 307? I am thinking I 307 the temp disabled pages to a generic page like site.com/we-are-adding-some-final-touches-to-this.html where we will explain to users why an item would be disabled and will give them an option to get notification when it goes back up. Finally when it goes back up I remove the 307 redirect and make the page live.

Best way to handle pages with iframes that I don't want indexed? Noindex in the header?
I am doing a bit of SEO work for a friend, and the situation is the following: The site is a place to discuss articles on the web. When clicking on a link that has been posted, it sends the user to a URL on the main site that is URL.com/article/view. This page has a large iframe that contains the article itself, and a small bar at the top containing the article with various links to get back to the original site. I'd like to make sure that the comment pages (URL.com/article) are indexed instead of all of the URL.com/article/view pages, which won't really do much for SEO. However, all of these pages are indexed. What would be the best approach to make sure the iframe pages aren't indexed? My intuition is to just have a "noindex" in the header of those pages, and just make sure that the conversation pages themselves are properly linked throughout the site, so that they get indexed properly. Does this seem right? Thanks for the help...
