Do these strategies still work?
-
Hey SEOmoz members,
I've been out of the SEO game for quite a while now... grew up years ago getting by with directory blasts, article marketing, social bookmarking, etc...
I'm currently in the process of starting a few new campaigns. After burning the midnight oil on this site soaking up all the information I can, I realize the game has changed. It's not as simple as it used to be. So for these new campaigns, killer content, social integration, and guest blogging are going to be my main long term strategies. If I'm not mistaken, relevancy should be a key part of the link building strategy.
So I guess my question is... article marketing, social bookmarking, web 2.0 creation... can these still be a viable source for high quality links? I do realize that without great content these are all dead ends. But when used correctly and in moderation, can these strategies still produce results?
And if so... what are some good resources for finding high quality sites that will positively impact my campaigns? Are there any good article directories out there, or have they all been devalued? Do linkwheels still carry any weight?

Yes, these strategies still work, just not to the same degree.
Start with the most relevant directories from http://www.seomoz.org/directories, submit a high quality wiki page on AboutUs.org and request for the links to be changed to follow and submit some GOOD quality articles to the best article directories out there.
We've had success with linkwheels, but being in Australia I think it's just a matter of time before we catch up with the US and these are significantly diminished.

Yes, these things can still work and produce results, but they are not the preferred or best strategies by any means.
I really like this post for link-building ideas: http://pointblankseo.com/link-building-strategies
He includes your strategies (although with varying levels of support) and he recommends Ezinearticles as one site to use.

What are your link-building strategies?
Link-building seems to be the biggest SEO item that still remains foggy to me. I was wondering what this community's thoughts and strategies are around in for your own personal projects. I think if I can hear some real life success stories, it might make more sense to me in the long run. Anything, good or bad, is welcome!

Still seeing older links
We have recently updated all our product page titles on our website to something more descriptive for our Google Shopping campaign. This was what was recommended we do by the folks at Google. Doing this causes all of the URLs for the products to reflect this change. The structure is as such: https://ourwebsite.com/bulbs/product_id/title. Now when Moz provides us with our weekly crawl report we see a load of duplicate page content errors (roughly the same amount as the number of product pages). I don't quite see this as a coincidence so it must be a consequence of having updated the titles. My question is why is Moz still crawling our older links? We no longer link to any of the pages with the older URLs so why are they conflicting?

Link building strategy - my weak link!
Please help me understand link building. I've read the articles on Moz, but they seem vague to me. Specific questions: 1. How do I get my webpage on good quality sites? 2. Guest blogging? Good or not? 3. What about when people pick up one of our blog stories and publish it on their site with a link back? Is that bad now because it is duplicate content??? 4. Forum posts with a link in the signature? Good or not? 5. Directories - I get it that these are no longer good... are they severely negative? Should I take them down. 6. PR - Looks like this is bad... right??? 7. Youtube - any value? 8. Pinterst, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram? Any value to backlinks here? 9. What about sites like redit? 10. Anything else I should consider?

Directories in the linkbuilding strategy
Hi all, what's your opinion about the impact of directories in the seo strategy? Are they efficient? Is it worth to pay attention to them? Could you give me some exemples of well-considered directories (apart from dmoz and yahoo)? Thanks

Keyword Strategy for Very Large Website Launch
My friend and I are launching a website used to track alcoholic beverages. It has over 115k pages, three tier site structure. I am curious about the keyword strategy for the homepage. I know I will get a lot of long tail search traffic for drink names and how to mix drinks. Do I need a Keyword Strategy for my homepage with so many internal pages? Its a new brand we created, not a keyword domain. We would like to rank for how to mix drinks, etc... However with the number of pages we already have a lot of internal link juice. Where should link building be focused?

I'm aware that spamming tools can lead to ruin..what do you use as a backlink strategy.
But I have had some luck with bookkmaRKING DEMON, and understand the pitfalls of massive submission, but I deal in facts not generalities. If the goal is to mix your links accross the pages in your site, and mix the DA quality, or pr of the links, and have them contextual as well as comments, directories, etc. who cares how it is done as long as it appears natural 1. Linkvana claims to be a posting service for you. you put text in with your link and it posts to relevant sites, the same as you would do manually. For my context links I see this as a better way than begging people to give me a link, or wasting time kissing butt of reporters (kike i did in the past). Anyway there is good and bad with everything. I want to know if anyone knows of anyone who used linkvana and what their experiences is ? And more importantly.... WHAT DOES EVERYONE USE AS A COMPLETE BACK LINK STRATEGY? Thanks
