Asking Sites to Remove Links.. What should I say?
-
After getting some guidance from you guys here on this forum i have decided to go through my WMT backlinks and contact all the sites that I think are spammy and are linking back to me....and I will ask them to remove my links from their sites...
Can you guys please provide some guidance as to what I should say in the letter (also, anything i should definitely not say)....
Thanks for the help...

That's a great question and I really don't know the answer....
How would i find out? My site is still indexed, its just ranking very poorly for the keywords that most of these links used as anchor text....
-
Have you been penalised? Or are you just no longer seeing the effects of the links that google has now devalued?
-
I agree that it is a different story if you have been penalized, but I would try to find out if that is the true reason as to why you have been penalized. It very well may be ... but what else have you been doing that may have caused the problem? Have you hired anyone to get you links recently?
-
I didn't know that google was complaining about your links.
If you or someone you hired bought links, traded links or made arrangements to have links created for your site then you might try contacting those webmasters, tell them that google doesn't like the links and ask them to remove them.
Good luck.

Sounds like you got a penalty. In that case, you definitely want to make an effort to remove as many as possible. Document the effort you put into it. How many sites you contact for removal and how many links you have successfully removed.
This data will likely help when you file a reconsideration request.
The main problem is, spammy links are a lot harder to remove than they are to acquire. Best of luck.

But my rankings have dropped terribly and i got a notice in my WMT that G detected an unnatural flow of links... and within a week i went from page 1 to page 10 on my main keyword... I think i need to try and remove some of those... Do you still think it's not necessary?

I agree with EGOL - it is not worth the resources to remove them and most likely they are not hurting your site. These types of links will become inevitable as your site grows.
-
Lots of these types of links are simply part of the content on spammy websites. They are often produced by a robot that scrapes websites and republishes snips of their content, including links. The more popular your website becomes the more of these types of links you will acquire. In some industries there are enormous numbers of spam websites. My site has a million of these links and I am not going to do anything about it. It would cost thousands of dollars in labor just to make "an attempt" at contacting these people and I bet that the response rate will be really really low. Google knows that these sites are trash. I don't think that those links are helping or hurting very much at all.

Linking from a corporate site to a brand site.
Is there an SEO impact to a large corporation linking from a corporate and/or a divisional site to a specific brand site with it's own top level domain? We would like to keep the traffic coming, but not if it will be seen as a black hat tactic. My guess is that Google will be smart enough to see that the corporation owns the brand and at least not penalize us, but I am wondering if anyone else has this experience? Google Analytics is calling it self-referral.

Moving to a new site while keeping old site live
For reasons I won't get into here, I need to move most of my site to a new domain (DOMAIN B) while keeping every single current detail on the old domain (DOMAIN A) as it is. Meaning, there will be 2 live websites that have mostly the same content, but I want the content to appear to search engines as though it now belongs to DOMAIN B. Weird situation. I know. I've run around in circles trying to figure out the best course of action. What do you think is the best way of going about this? Do I simply point DOMAIN A's canonical tags to the copied content on DOMAIN B and call it good? Should I ask sites that link to DOMAIN A to change their links to DOMAIN B, or start fresh and cut my losses? Should I still file a change of address with GWT, even though I'm not going to 301 redirect anything?

Internal Link Analysis (Site Wide)
Hi i'm currently doing a internal link analysis for one of my clients and want to pull internal link data for the entire website. So i can look at the distribution of internal anchor text and to identify ways in which we can optimize internal linking. I have had a look at screaming frog the trouble is, this data is only exportable one page at a time. Meaning, you can’t export an entire site “In Link” data. The site has 200+ pages so pulling in link data for each page would take quite long! Can anyone recommend anyways or tools which can look at the entire link profile for a website. I have checked OSE but there's not much data because the site is relatively new. Cheers, RM

First attempt at manual penalty removal fails - all example links provided by Google not in Majestic, GWT, Ahrefs, LinkDetox, or OSE.
Hello all, I am trying to recover a site from a manual penalty. I already submitted once. Here's what we did. We took the link profile from webmaster tools, majestic seo, ahrefs, link detox, and ose. We manually looked at every link to exclude good links. Then used a tool to run the removal campaign. Submitted a disavow file and reconsideration request. Google came back with a denial. When I looked at the three example links that Google provided, they were definitely spammy (forum profile and comment spam). But none of them were in any of the original csv downloads from GWT, Ahrefs, Majestic, OSE, or LinkDetox. What can I do? Thanks in advance for any help.

Are disavowed links removed from the GWMT?
Hi, I am disavowing some links. Does anyone know if Google removes them from the WMT?

Multiple sites linking back with pornographic anchor text
I discovered a while ago that we had quite a number of links pointing back to one of our customer's websites. The anchor text of these links contain porn that is extremely bad. These links are originating from forums that seems to link between themselves and then throw my customers web address in there at the same time. Any thoughts on this? I'm seriously worried that this may negatively affect the site.

Link Request Email on Site`s Link Pages
Hello I have assembled a list of web-sites that have "Links" section that has a list of persons` favorite tools. Those pages have a link to my competitor. I know my tool is just as good if not better and want to request a link. I`m thinking of sending an email asking for a link and offering a small amount of money for it. Questions: A) How much should I offer? Should I offer anything at all B) Is there an email style that someone can suggest that has been tested and proven to work for this type of situtation?
