Have Google changed something in Analytics
-
Hi Mozzers,
I have a client that gets loads of traffic and since the 15th February there has been a decrease in New Visitors and an Increse in Returning.
Traffic levels are the same. The returning is up and new are down by a long long shot.
Have Google changed the way these visits are calculated? I can't see anything on the blog - anyone experiencing similar issues

Hi Karen,
Spot on! Thanks for that I've been pulling my hair out on it.
March (not provided) rocketed. There are other things at play but this is definitely part of the issue.
You Rock!

Hi,
Have you noticed an increase in the number of visits coming from '(not provided)' in the keyword list?
If so, it could be down to the new privacy laws - more people being logged in when they search and therefore being recognised as a return visitor, rather than a new one?
Not sure how much that helps - it's just an idea to throw in the mix!

Have you made any improvements to your site recently?
This change is probably because your audience is starting to like your content.
-
Thanks Matt - I'll check the sources.
Rankings are great and have increased week on week so its not this. Organic traffic is up week on week as well.
The ratio or new vs rtn is the only thing to have changed.
Thanks again

the obvious thing could be that your user engagement has increased at this point and more users are returning to your website, but your traffic and potentially your ranking has dropped in search engines so less new traffic is being sent. Have you looked at the traffic sources for this period and are there any noticeable differences before and after the 15th feb in search engine traffic etc?

Thanks Matt,
Yes I have checked other clients stats and everything is fine.
I can't work it out, thanks for your input though

Hi Gareth
I have just checked for the period from 15th up until yesterday and the same number of days prior and my new visitors are several percent up, so I haven't experienced the problem and I haven't heard anything when talking to others and reading the latest news etc.

Google Acquisition & Audience Segmentation
Hi. I'm trying to figure out a solution to two questions one of my current clients has asked me in regards to Google Analytics tagging, and I'm unsure how to respond. Can anyone help? See below the questions, 1. In Google Acquisition > Overview, their paid media is reporting as "Other". They do not run any Google paid ads. They only run Facebook paid ads. Is there a way to update the source so that it says "Paid" versus "Other" within the default channel? The current solution was advised to create a channel group that the client has to then tick on overtime they want to see this data with the correct labeling. They would prefer to see it in the default. Is it just a matter of going into the *default channel, choosing the "Paid" option, and then specifying the source/medium that contains Facebook, CPC, or referral to be categorized under this channel? Or is it something else? *Aware that changes to the Default Channel are permanent changes and will change how new traffic is classified. 2. Audience segmentation > The client wants to be able to define it's audience by shopping intent and informational intent. Is there a clear way to do this, for example, by keywords used, e.g. buy, product name, entry (shopping intent), versus e.g. non-purchase intent, entry to the blog, length of time on site (info intent). Would be happy to have a conversation about the last question, since I'm conscious that there are probably multiple ways to define this - thanks. To the group, thank you for readying my questions and helping me with these solutions - your time is appreciated and valued. Sincerely, Amanda

Google Index Issue - Indexing pages that don't exhist
Hi All, I have noticed a weird issue when performing a search on Google to show me all the pages it is indexing of our site. site:www.one2create.co.uk It brings up most of our website pages but then is also brings up a few HTTPS urls (our site has not been converted to HTTPS yet) but also the URL path, Title, and Meta Description are from one of our clients websites (an Automotive Job site). When clicked they take you to a generic 404 server error page, not our branded 404 page. The site that it has taken the url, title and meta description from is on a different server completely so I don't see how it has even managed to get that information and linked it to our site? Has anyone seen anything like this before? And what is the best way to fix it? We have asked Google to re-index the site but still no luck.

Setting up Google Analytics
Hello, I will try to explain what I want and I am not sure if that is possible. Firstly I want to set up my Google Analytics that I would know where people come from and how many of them click on Google Ads. For example:
Search Behavior | | FCRMediaLietuva
Facebook > 2% of them click on ads.
Google > 3% of them click on ads.
Direct > 6% of them click on ads.Or whatever the results are. Secondly I would like to take people coming from facebook and divide them into age groups. For example: 100 ad clicks from facebook.
25-34: 9 clicks (9% of total facebook clicks, 2% of total ad clicks)
18-24: 7 clicks (.....
35-44: ... and so on Thirdly I would like to know which group use the adblocker the most.
Any other stuff that would be interesting if working with adsense? I believe that this would help me working with my target audience the best on facebook. Should this be set as goals? Sorry I am not an expert of Google Analytics 🙂 Thanks for the help.0 -

Google Analytics: advanced segment for hour of day
Cioa from 17 Degrees C cloudy Wetherby UK 🙂 In Google analytics I want to report specifically on Blackberry Mobile traffic next to hour if the day. Whilst this customised report I ripped off did the job @ http://bit.ly/hourdays I only resorted to this after battling with advanced segments thinking I could do the same thing. So my question is please how can I get this report http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/hrs-day-examplecopy_zps4f15d4a1.jpg by building it via advanced segments and not ripping off via http://bit.ly/hourdays Grazie tanto,

New EU Laws governing cookies; will Google Analytics still be usable after May 25th?
Hi, first time I've posted a question, New EU Laws governing cookies; will Google Analytics still be usable after May 25th? - apologies in advance if its already been covered, but I couldn't find any answers when I searched - google search showed someone else ask the question already, but no straight answers were given:- From May 25th the Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive will come in to force which prohibits the use of cookies without informed, prior consent from web users. I've been trying to research to see whether or not this will affect Google Analytics. The Directive seems to be designed to prevent behavioural tracking, rather than web stats, but after reading the directive (with no law experience) I'm fairly confused by what will be prohibited. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'd be very grateful! 🙂

We have some clients who have raised concerns over how this new update will affect them. They are an Estate Agents who regularly update their property portfolio, blogs and news section etc. Can you advise how they may or may not be directly affected? Thank you.

Can I use Google Analytics to find out actual times of visits during the day??
Hi, I'm a newbie at all this - I hope someone can help me. We're thinking of running time-specific offers to try and convert as many of our customer site visits as possible e.g. 15% discount if you call between, say, 2 and 5pm. It would be really helpful to me to find out what times of day people are visiting our site. I can't seem to find a way to do this on Google Analytics. Can anyone help? Thanks so much Sue
