Two blogs on the same domain
-
I have had two blogs on the same domain for a while now, and it just occurred to me that no one else seems to do this and maybe it's even weird.
http://www.stadriemblems.com/blog/
http://www.stadriemblems.com/scouting/blog/One is our main blog, and one is for a very concentrated niche of customers.
What are your opinions on this? Everything from SEO to best practices, to overall unusual-ness?
-
With a quick glance at both blogs, it looks like you're doing just fine.
Both have a distinct look and feel (the Boy Scout blog is by far the more attractive - but that's just my opinion)
You might get a higher click-through rate if you were to move the Boy Scout Blog to it's own keyword rich (and shorter) domain, but the hassle and potential downsides of moving it means it probably isn't worth the hassle.
Regardless, if you've been doing it for awhile and it's working for you, I wouldn't change a thing.

Not unusual at all. Keep up the good work. Similar to separating keywords in your ad groups with google to increase your QS, your relevance and quality score could be increasing if you are developing "silos" of keyword relevance in each blog.

URL Structure On Site - Currently it's domain/product-name NOT domain/category/product name is this bad?
I have a eCommerce site and the site structure is domain/product-name rather than domain/product-category/product-name Do you think this will have a negative impact SEO Wise? I have seen that some of my individual product pages do get better rankings than my categories.

How do I fix a multiple domain mess?
I just picked up an account that is a franchisee and they have 6 exact match domains plus their main domain (all exact duplicates, not 301s). GA shows the main domain as getting the lion's share of hits, but for some important local keywords, the exact match domains rank higher. Some pages may have the exact match domain, primary domain and the franchise domain all ranking on the same SERP. Yuk! My strategy is to work on the main domain and as the work progresses, the main site will surpass the exact match domains and main franchise domain for the important searches. For the exact match domains I plan on just leaving them alone. Is this a sound strategy? I could pull the exact match domains down, but since they rank well for their keywords, it seems most sensible to leave them up. What do you think?

Why the rapid drop in Domain Authority?
I couple weeks ago I switched my website from Drupal to a Wordpress CMS: Martial Arts Austin My rankings have remained the same, but the Domain Authority has plummeted from like 29 to 21. I know this is small fry, but I don't want my business to drop in ranking. The URL's were kept exactly the same, with the internal links and copy also kept the same with few additions. Also, according to Open Site Explorer, the site's stronger pages have now averaged out with the weaker and unused pages so they all now share the same Page Authority - that doesn't seem right. Is there reason for concern? Did I screw something up, or am I making too much of this? Thanks
