How can you tell if your new content has been indexed?
-
Other than simply doing a search in each case, is there any way I can tell (in Webmaster Tools, for example) if the 500-1000 new pages of content I have added have been indexed and are now appearing in search results? My traffic hasn't risen much, but I know at least a few of them are in there...
How can I tell when they're all in?
-
Webmaster tools will tell you how many pages you have submitted in a particular site map, and how many pages are indexed in each site map. If you're able to put your new content into a new sitemap, that's one way to judge.

In addition to using the site operator or searching for the page, you can also check Google Analytics to see if your landing pages from organic searches include those new pages (or to see if the total count of organic landing pages has increased/decreased over some time period). This gives you two pieces of data. First it tells if the page was indexed (you wouldn't get traffic to that page from an organic result if it was not yet indexed). Second, it tells you if the indexing paid off (did somebody find this page in the SERPs and click to your website).

If your site is small enough you can use the 'site:' operator to see when new pages get put in. It's not super accurate though.
Generally if I'm concerned about that kind of thing I do a 'site:myname.com' search in Google and then use the 'Show More Search Tools' and 'Show past 24 hours', 'Show Past Week', etc. Generally it's not really worth doing unless you've got some crazy thing that's linked a short-lived viral phenomena, and if that's the case you should be using sitemaps anyway.

"index.htm" for all url's in google analytics
I don't have this issue with other wordpress websites, only this one website, and I don't know what's causing the issue: Google Analytics is adding an "index.htm" to every single page on the website. So it is tracking the pages, I see no errors - is it tracking the right page? When I click on the page link in a report, I naturally go to a "404 page not found" since the website address isn't "www.example.com/rewards/index.htm" - but instead the actual address would be:
Reporting & Analytics | | cceebar
"www.example.com/rewards/". I have navigated to View Settings in GA to insure "default page" is empty. Although adding anything else to this field does not effect the page url in analytics reports either. Could it be htaccess file - or a plugin effecting the htaccess file?_Cindy0 -
How can I remove parameters from the GSC URL blocking tool?
Hello Mozzers My client's previous SEO company went ahead and blindly blocked a number of parameters using the GSC URL blocking tool. This has now caused Google to stop crawling many pages on my client's website and I am not sure how to remove these blocked parameters so that they can be crawled and reindexed by Google. The crawl setting is set to "Let Google bot decide" but still there has been a drop in the number of pages being crawled. Can someone please share their experience and help me delete these blocked parameters from GSC's URL blocking tool. Thank you Mozzers!

Duplicate page content
I'm seeing duplicate page content for tagged URLs. For example:
Reporting & Analytics | | DolbySEO
http://www.dolby.com/us/en/about-us/careers/landing.html
http://www.dolby.com/us/en/about-us/careers/landing.html?onlnk=al-sc as well as PPC campaigns. We tag certain landing pages purposefully in order to understand that traffic comes from these pages, since we use Google Analytics and don't have the abiility to see clickpaths in the package we have. Is there a way to set parameters for crawling to exclude certain pages or tagged content, such as those set up for PPC campaigns?0 -
Duplicate page content
I have a website which "houses" five different and completely separate departments, so the content is separated by subfolders. e.g. domain.com/department1 domain.com/department2 etc. and each have their own individual top navigation menus. There is an "About Us" section for each department which has about 6 subpages (Work for us, What we do, Awards etc.) but the problem is that the content for each department is exactly the same. The only difference is the navigation menu and the breadcrumbs. This isn't ideal as a change to one page means having to make the change to all 5 and from an SEO perspective it's duplicate content x5 (apart from the Nav). One solution I can see is to have the "About Us" section moved to the root level (domain.com/about-us) and have a generic nav, possibly with the department names on it. The only problem with this is that it disrupts the user journey if they are forced away from the department that they're chosen. Basically i'm looking for suggestions or examples of other sites that have got around this problem, I need inspiration! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
