Does anybody know why my domain name is up to sale?
-
One of my domain names is not showing on Google's search results, when I type the URL in nothing appears. I notice something to do with blocked, but I couldn't find the message again.
When I type in the actual URL in the search box it comes up with the message that the domain is up for sale for $32 the year, but the strange thing is it is still registered to me and it's definitely not up for sale?
I find this very strange has anybody got any ideas whatbn could be happening?
I sent in what they call a trouble ticket to the domain parking service, so I'll see what their replies is

Thank you everybody in town to help me, it just turned out
that the workplace website had been hacked. My web space provider cannot
facilitate the latest version of WordPress at the moment which means
unfortunately we haven't got the best security, but hopefully that will change
soon. I've uploaded the website again and all is well at the moment. -
No worries Alan.
I figured the one in your Webmaster Tools ought to be the right one
The problem with that one is that it returns blank pages for every URL indexed in Google (if you use site:www.whitby.uk.net you can see a long list of indexed pages, but not a single one is working). Obviously there is a problem with the site which you need to fix as quickly as possible. The Database may be the best place to start looking for issues.
Hope that helps,
Sha

Sorry Sha I mistakenly put the - instead of . what a silly mistake.
It's the word Whitby, a town in North Yorkshire with the domain .uk.net at the end.
www.whitby.uk.net for sure
Thank you alan

Hi activesuper
Please except my apologies it is www.whitby.uk.net

Silly me
-
Well http://www.whitby-.uk.net/ is not even indexed BUT http://www.whitby.uk.net/ is indexed and I can see the problem.
Do you own both these domains? and which one are you actually having problems with because in your first post you state it's http://www.whitby-.uk.net/
-
Hi Again Alan,
You have now given us 3 different domains:
www.**whitby-uk.**net
www.**whitby-.uk.**net/
www.**whitby.uk.**net/
A little hard to give you a definitive answer if we don't know which domain you are referring to
Hope that helps,
Sha

Hi ShaYes thank you I understand the update regarding WordPress now, I can see that's got nothing to do with a it but there is something very strange here If I type it into the URL nothing appears, but if I do a Google search I get this messagewww.whitby-uk.net this domain name is available for only $32.5 per year? And it says I posted that message with my picture under itWhat's going on I don't understand it I still own the domain name it's not for sale
-
Hi Alan,
The URL from your Google Webmaster Tools is a different domain.
The domain that is for sale has a hyphen in it that is not included in the link from your WMT message... or do you own them both?
The WMT message is a courtesy message that is being sent to all Wordpress users with out of date software versions. The risk of your site being hacked is significantly increased by having out of date cms versions. This is something that Google is concerned about because hacked sites may put users at risk of exposure to malicious code.
Hope that helps,
Sha

I've just found this message below in my Google analytics, I wonder if this has anything to do with it?
But I still can't see why it should be apparently of sale, or nothing is appearing in the search results?
Dear Site Owner or Webmaster of http://www.whitby.uk.net/,
As of the last crawl of your website, you appear to be running WordPress 3.1.3. Google recommends that you update to the latest release. Older or unpatched software may be vulnerable to hacking or malware that can hurt your users. To download the latest release, visit the WordPress download page. If you have already updated to the latest version of WordPress, please disregard this message.
If you have any additional questions about why you are receiving this message, Google has provided more background information in a blog post about this subject.

Should I buy an expired domain that has already been redirected to some other website? Can I use it or redirect it to my own site if I purchase it?
I was going to purchase an expired domain but then I came to know that it has been redirected to some other website. I have two questions: Can I build a website around this domain if I purchase it? and will the Domain Authority remains the same ? Can I redirect it to my own site? and will all the Link Juice flow to my site?

Anybody have experience with SEMPO Membership?
Having been involved in the search world for 14+ years, I'm struggling with seeing the value that orgs such as SEMPO bring to the table. Would like some feedback on your experience or value with SEMPO or other orgs? Not looking to go on rants, just some insights. Cheers!

Changing Domains - How much link juice is lost with 301 redirect?
My company is thinking about rebranding and moving over to a new domain. While we dont have a lot of backlinks, we do have some very valuable ones that we hate to lose. That being said, I think we are in such an infancy that the backlinks we have shouldnt prevent us from rebranding if thats what we choose to do. I am just trying to get an idea of how moving to a new domain will effect the domain authority if we redirect all the pages? Is the best thing to do simply re-direct, or should we reach out to our most valuable links and let them know the domain/link has changed and hopefully they change their link to us? How much is lost by simply 301 every page? We are getting around 70 organic clicks per day and would rather not start from zero again 🙂

How changing my domain name brought back rankings.
First I would not recommend doing this to anyone else, but my circumstances were extreme.
Industry News | | AlanMosley
Let me explain to those that did not read previous posts on the subject. I had a domain thatsit.net.au, I had never really promoted it as I used a keyword domain to rank in search engines but kept this domain mainly for email, but having said that it did rank ok considering, it ranked first for my business name at least.
A few moths back I decided to promote it and check the rankings, I was surprised to see that it ranked last for almost every thing,. Even my business name. Let me impress when I say last I mean in most cases absolute last and if not last very, very close to last.
I decided to get some links happening to move it of bottom, in my experiences a site that ranks that bad even a few links with show a big jump in rankings, it is easier to get from page 1000 to page 900 than it is to get from page 2 to page 1. The site had about 200 links and I pushed that up to about 1,000 but I was still at the bottom even for long tails searches where I was the only exact match on the internet.
asking for advice I got responses like you need better links and the such, this did not account for the sudden drop in rankings, as I knew the history I knew that thee was something deeper going on, I asked Google for reconsideration they said there was no manual action taken.
I should also mention I ranked very well in Bing all this time and still do.
By now I was getting paranoid that someone was stuffing me up somehow as a last resort I changed the domain name from thatsit.net.au to thatsit.com.au I did this about 10 days ago.
Today I searched for my company name and I came up #4 not bad from not being in the top 1,000 a few days ago.
Rankings are not where they used to be but I can handle that, I have 301’ed across all my links and have stated to change over the links I control, but as I still don’t know why the other domain would not move from the bottom as search results I am nervous that I may 301 over the problem.
I have never really done anything in the way of Black Hat SEO that would get me banned, maybe a bit of light grey over the years but nothing to worry about.
Anyhow I am non the wiser as to why things happened like they did. But I did want to report back to others that read the posts and thought that maybe I was imaging things.
I was never really depended on the domain ranking, what really bothers me is not knowing why the .net.au domain fell from rankiings and I still don’t know why.1 -
Sub domains in WMT
Does adding each sub-domain separately in WMT tell the SE that they are separate sites?
Industry News | | AlanMosley
Does the fact that listing only the root domain but seeing data for the sub-domains mean that the SE is seeing them all as the same site? Any thoughts are welcome0 -
Anyone know how to get into Google Advisor search?
Looking for information on how to get into Google Advisor (https://www.google.com/advisor/home). Google is rolling out their own meta search engines in select categories right now - finance and hotels to start - but i cant find any documentation, help or data on how to get yourself in that feed/search. Anyone have experience in with this yet?
