Best Alternatives to Google Knol
-
We have some Google Knols that have done well but now they have to be moved (Google closing). The popular alternatives are:
- Annotum (new, based on Wordpress and containing scholarly articles)
- Wordpress.com
- Blogger
Although those could work I am seeking out other viable alternatives. Any suggestions? Squidoo is spammy but has anyone had any good things to say about it? Thanks!

Linda,
No just some alternatives that are like or better than Google Knols. A list of possible solutions that might be good to look at that people have used before with some success.

are you suggesting one central location for all articles that link back to your main site?
-
EGOL,
You always offer some of the best advice on the forum so I appreciate you taking the time on this one. The point you make is good and I agree about retaining control. We have plenty of great content on our site (we are redoing it at the moment so it will look better alongside improved structure) and want to have solid content elsewhere to improve our footprint of discovery. These are evergreen pieces that offer a gateway into all that we have on our site. We could easily go with any of the three options mentioned already but I am wondering about alternatives the community here might suggest.

If you have valuable content I believe that you should get your own domain and host your content there.
Then you have full control over format and the site will not be closed down because of a corporate decision.
I know a guy who lost a PR7 website making lots of money when the free service that he was using shut down. Years of work down the drain with no opportunity to redirect the pages. He lost thousands of dollars per month in income.

Can a rel author tag point to a Google+ business page
I’m trying to get my blog posts to show with rich snippets but they are a collaborative effort from our staff and as such are posted under our business name. We do have some guest bloggers who write under their own name and we use the author tags to show this. Is there a similar way to do this with a business?

The rel="alternate" tag
Hey guys and gals. So I run a hyperlocal blog and get a heap of press releases sent to me daily. I don't have time to rewrite each one before posting it to the website, so I am aware that I am duplicating content and possibly extracting link juice from the original source. Would using the rel="alternate" tag highlighting the source on each press release page fix this? Am I correct in saying this tag tells google that the content on the page is sourced from elsewhere? I also get requests from other sites for my original posts to be posted on their websites but I decline because of duplicate content, would asking for this same ' the rel="alternate" tag' fix on their website be wise? Thanks in advance JC

Can I get Google to re-evaluate my comany's website?
For the last few months I've been rewriting website descriptions for the company I work for, trying to comply with the Panda algorithm as best I could. There are about 400 items. Today I am going to begin working on titles and descriptions. Question: Once I'm finished and have run the site through SEOMoz's pro tools, I would like to have Google look at the site _**in toto **_once the changes have been made so that maybe we can procure some decent organic rankings. Can the site be resubmitted, and what is the procedure? Ps. Today I am asking my fellow employees to help me proofread each description for grammar, spelling, accuracy, and keyword placement. I am also asking for suggestions from them.

Does Google penalize for duplicate blog posts?
Occasionally, I get asked by another blogger if they can repost (in full) one of our blog posts on their blog as a guest post. I've always been under the impression that Google penalizes this type of behavior, but I haven't seen any evidence. Is this true?

Access to a Clients Google Places Account
I would like to manage my clients Google places account so I can add pictures, fill out the profile etc. If he already has a Google places account how do I get access? I feel a little gun-shy about asking for his personal email and password to gain access.

Wordpress Security and Alternatives
No matter how secure we try to make our wordpress blogs they still got hacked. We recently got hacked(server level hacking, javascript insertion that took our server down, through the askimet plugin), anyway there was nothing really showing in the front end, no inserted links and nothing suspicious looking code. Oh well we are changing the passwords now and going through and deleting the javascript. The problem im facing is that i am handling over 100 blogs, so its very time consuming to do this. I know that once or twice a year everyone goes through a wordpress crisis but we really cant afford nor have the resources to fix it all the time. Are there any alternatives to wordpress blogs(as good as wordpress). Wordpress has been showing good results so far so it works as far as SEO goes, but we are trying to figure out what to do in order to not get hacked. Besides alternatives id like to know if there are any work arrounds to not get hacked with little maintenance needed. Any tips?
