Duplicate Content Question

On the home page of my site I have a read more link that takes you to a different URL with basically the same content, just more of it.
Home Page: http://www.opwdecks.com/
Read More Link on Home Page: http://www.opwdecks.com/deckmaintain.htm
I think this may be affecting my seo. Any suggestions on what I should do about this? Should I add a canonical to the home page and/or on the other page?
Both pages are indexed by google.

Makes sense to split the article. Keep the top half on the home page and leave the rest of the article on the "read more" link. That way there is not duplicate content and is just a continuation instead of a repeat for the customer.

Not a direct answer to your question, but from a user's perspective, when I click the "read more" I'm expecting to see more regarding maintaining the exterior wood decking, not the entire intro sales pitch repeated again -- more like the page on How to Clean a Deck that you also have linked from the home page. If you did it that way, you'd only have the paragraph of duplicate content at the above question would be a moot point.

You could get around that easily by having the homepage's content (the content that is duplicated) show up in the same place by using an iframe which displays the content on the actual page, on the homepage. Search engines don't treat iframe content as dupe content, they know it comes from a separate source. However, are you using keywords from that content for your homepage's SEO? Because you would effectively lose that as homepage content.
If you're using that content for the SEO on your homepage and not the other page, you could just use the robots.txt file to noindex, nofollow the other page... then problem solved

Question about creating content pages for keywords
Good morning, We are trying to rank our India based company which provides the following services

MEP Design Services Our target audiences are in the US and UK. Offcource, we are targetting above services keywords on most of our main pages and created dedicated services pages too. But lately, we found out that we are ranking well for keywords like Outsourcing Engineering Design Services, Outsourcing Architectural Design Services, etc... which are actually very very good keywords in terms of closing the leads/inquiries as people are actually looking out for outsourcing but the search count for those keywords is low. (though we closed 2 inquiries from those keywords). These pages we created in past just to increase the content of the website. I really want to give it a try to target those keywords by creating more pages, blog posts, backlinks, etc... My question is if we create more and more pages around those keywords then will it affect the rankings of the pages which are already ranking for those keywords or will the new pages compete against those pages or the new pages will help to boost current pages? We can write good content and blog posts on the outsourcing topic but not sure if we should create new pages or increase the length of the existing pages. Can you guys please help with some directions on this as I really don't want to take the wrong route. Look forward! Regards0 -
Duplicate Content for Men's and Women's Version of Site
So, we're a service where you can book different hairdressing services from a number of different salons (site being worked on). We're doing both a male and female version of the site on the same domain which users are can select between on the homepage. The differences are largely cosmetic (allowing the designers to be more creative and have a bit of fun and to also have dedicated male grooming landing pages), but I was wondering about duplicate pages. While most of the pages on each version of the site will be unique (i.e. [male service] in [location] vs [female service] in [location] with the female taking precedent when there are duplicates), what should we do about the likes of the "About" page? Pages like this would both be unique in wording but essentially offer the same information and does it make sense to to index two different "About" pages, even if the titles vary? My question is whether, for these duplicate pages, you would set the more popular one as the preferred version canonically, leave them both to be indexed or noindex the lesser version entirely? Issue: Duplicate Page Content (index.htm)
I get an error of "**Issue:**Duplicate Page Content" for the following pages in the SEOMOZ Crawl Diagnostics. But these pages are the same one! Duhhhh.... Duplicate Page Titles and Keywords
Still new to this SEO world, so please bear with me. I have an eCommerce site so one of the issues is duplicate content and page titles. So what I was thinking was this...for each product that I sell I have 4 or 5 keywords that I have targeted. For example for personalized iPhone cases I have decided on: iphone 4 case personalized, monogrammed iphone 4 case, personalized and monogrammed iphone case, preppy phone case, personalized iPhone case, monogrammed iPhone case For each of my products I was going to a product description (ie: trendy color block diagonal stripes) and a targeted keyword. But I was going to rotate the keywords through so as to try to avoid the duplicate page title issue. Will that help? Thanks much, Shara

Duplicate Content Warning

I understand that these are seen as two different pages but I would like to know if this has an negative impact on my SEO? Why is this happening?
