New ways to get links (excluding on site link bait)?
-
Fellow SEOs,
I’m looking for a new way to reach out to bloggers and site owners for links.
There are quite a few link bait techniques to lure bloggers thanks to = amazing content, infographics,...but there are not so many articles on ways to contact bloggers/webmasters and ask for links...
We all know that contacting site owners directly and politely asking then to place a link on their home page is as useful as a comb in Bruce willis’s hand.
Link exchange is as dead as the Dodo and business partner links are usefull and easier to get but opportunities are often limited.
I have been organizing contests for bloggers recently and it has been quite successful up to now, but I always like to have a spare trick up my sleeve.
So if any of you have a decent method to reach out to bloggers/webmaster and get decent links please let me know, I will be forever thankful ; )
Cheers

Thanks for your answers Daniel & Andy
But realistically isn’t it very time consuming to build quality relationships with each blog we would like to get a link from?
That almost sounds like a full time job to itself.
Would you say that 4-5 long time relationships with quality blogs is better that a one off “blogger competition” campaign with 50 new backdomain links.?
Thanks for your time guys

I think the key word in Daniel's reply above is "sustainable". There is no point in going after low hanging fruit that offers no on-going benefits. Also focus on other 'bloggers' who have something of a reputation and see if you can engage them as well.
Write an article and ask for input from others is something else that I find works well. People like the chance to be a part of a study etc.
Regards,
Andy

I posted to YOUMoz last week about this exact topic. Hopefully it gets moderated soon for you to study as it answers this perfect. It is called A New Perspective On Link Building. Look for it soon. Basic summary:
Relationships are the new links. Stop trying to get links. Just stop. Try to build relationships. Start a blogger battle over a contentious topic. Create a way to share ideas and content with others. Find ways to make someone else's site better. Do all in your power to build quality relationships and not only will the links come, you will have more influence in the blogosphere yourself. Never ask anyone for a link again. Ask them if you can provide value to them in some way. This is the only sustainable method to gaining links, influence and relevance online.

Getting Links
Hi, Links from Directories are bad. Links for low quality sites are bad. Paid links are bad. Guest blogging is "maybe rumor has it" google's next big Penguin. Where and how is everybody getting all these great links from, is there anywhere left?? All advice welcomed as we really need good links quick! Thanks

Linking back to a high authority site
I have an odd situation. One of our most powerful links comes from a not-for-profit whom we have an advertisement with. That ad gets us half of our business. Recently, they slipped for the term that got them the traffic that flowed to our site. I was thinking of linking back to that page to boost them up a bit. Their page is a deep page on a high authority domain with only a few links. I am an authority site for my niche. I'd like to boost them up without diminishing my rank for other related terms. I'm willing to consider linking to them from my homepage, blog or link page. To play it safe I could just link build to them from outside my domain. Can I just link to them and its not a big deal?

Can copyright links to your site have a negative impact on your SEO?
many of the websites we designed have a copyright link in the footer. Like: webdesign by company name then this is made a hyperlink to our company website. Some of these websites have a high PR and other metrics but rarely are about webdesign. What is a clever thing to do? Tom

Is it worth me considering a reciprocal linking request to my authority site ?
My web site is www.swimmer.co.uk it sells waterproof mp3 players & is the authority site in its niche I have no out going reciprocal links I don't have advertising or encourage reciprocal linking as I thought it may devalue the sites quality & link juice I have had a reciprocal link request from a swim wear based website called www.onlyswim.com that has a reciprocal linking sub-page with many varied links on it that are not just on the subject of swimming I don't think I will get any direct traffic from this website so I was wondering if ts worth me agreeing to a reciprocal link page I think we both have a PR of 2 **Any comments would be much appreciated ** In research to try & answer my own question I have just read this on wikipedia "Reciprocal linking between websites is no longer an important part of the search engine optimization process.Google and other search engines now do not give credit to reciprocal linking as it does not indicate genuine link popularity."

If I write a PR release on a site such as PRweb with anchor-text links that is picked up and published by other news sites, do the engines consider this duplicate content or additional, beneficial links?
I recently wrote a news release on PRweb that was picked up identically by 8 other news websites, with the same anchor-text links as the original. Is the reproduction of duplicate content and links across different websites like this to the benefit or detriment of SEO and ranking power? Some of the links are: http://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/view/pressrelease/eventa-new-eventa-christmas-parties-website-is-launched-648923?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=Alert&utm_content=pressrelease http://www.prweb.com/releases/christmasparties/neweventasite/prweb8562064.htm Many thanks!!
