Google+ SEO value
-
Hello,
We created a google+ page for our website and we would like to know what's best for SEO purposes.
We've put +1 buttons on our website and when you use them it give a +1 to our website's url.
Some other websites on the other hand make the button give a +1 to their website's page on Google + like this for instance:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/113493854651753327245/posts
So basically the number of +1s on the Google+ page increases.
Which one is best to have my website rank higher for its keywords?
Thanks for your help

My guess is that these brands are looking at it more from a perspective of getting people to follow their +1 accounts so they can use them as a promotional tool, more than looking at it from an SEO perspective, but I could be wrong.

I think it is best to have +1 buttons for the website's URL.
The reason for this is much like the Facebook Like button in that it influences peers. If somebody is following you on Google+ and you +1 a page then that page is given a boost when it is showing up on that persons SERP.
For example, imagine A follows B on Google+ and B +1's the URL awesomeurl.com. Before, if A searches for "an awesome URL" awesomeurl.com may be 7th on the SERP. After B +1's the URL, awesomeurl.com could be 2nd on the SERP for A.
At the moment it is definitely affecting SEO when you are signed into your Google+ account through search plus your world. It is hard to say how much it is effecting SEO for the general searcher who is not signed in.

Thanks to all of you for your answers.
Clancy, I kinda thought like you but then, why do big brands send it to their Google+ page and not to their site? For example seomoz seems to send their +1s to their Google+ page so I guess they do it becuase they think it's better for SEO right?

Hi Lisa,
From what I understand of your question, you're trying to figure out the structure of placing Google +1 buttons and Google follow buttons on your site?
If you go to our domain, http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au, you will see that we have a G+1 button in the header. When a user clicks on this, it +1's whatever page they are on (homepage, a brand landing page etc). If you go to any of our products, in addition to the +1 button in the header, there is also a +1 button on the item template to encourage more +1's of individual products. Towards the bottom of the description on our item template, there is a large follow button.
This encourages a good mix of +1's and follows.
Hope this helps

I tend to think it will work the other way round - Google wants to use +1 as an in-house popularity contest basically (from what I can tell they've taken the concept of other social bookmarking sites and optimized them for their own purposes in an environment that they have complete access to and control over).
I'd say point the +1's at the property you want to rank (your site, most likely). I could be wrong, but I imagine this would be more in line with what they intend the use of +1 to be (sharing, recommending and endorsing content, not profiles).
That being said, I don't really think Google+ is set to be the massive thing everybody makes it out to be. Google is pushing it hard for sure, but they haven't got me (or basically anybody I know) convinced that the world needs another sharing platform like this - there's already so many well-established ones out there (Digg, Stumbleupon, Facebook, Twitter). People only need so many ways to say, "Hey, check this out.", and the market is already quite competitive.

Thanks for your help. Do you have sources that say the same?

Since you are using Google's properties, this exercise should focus on Google's realm of influence. By pointing back to the Google Plus page, you are re-enforcing the value of the +1's that you get on your site to Google.
This will help build the brand and create trust in Google, which in turn will impact all your overall search efforts.
Good luck!

Google Plus Company Page Verification
Hi How do you test successful G+ company page/publisher integration/verification if using the less technical methods such as linking between the Home page and the G+ company page instead of adding code to the head section? Since i take it the google structured data testing tool cant work in these cases since no code on the head section ! Is it best to add the code anyway ? I note my clients still not achieving a knowledge graph card/section in the search results for a branded search but i have heard that doesnt come until you have at least hundreds of followers and/or G+ interactions. All Best

How Have You Got More Likes On Google +?
Hi All, My company has done fairly well with regards to achieving followings on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. BUT one that we REALLY struggle to get a following on is Google +. We have about 25 Google + followers, compared to 1.2k Facebook likes and over 2k Twitter followers. We do relatively similar things on each of these. What can we do to increase our following specifically on Google +? As it stands we do pretty similar things, it would just appear that there's not much taste for us on Google +! What kind of things have you guys done to boost your followings on Google +.? All suggestions are appreciated! Thanks Sam

How would you increase rankings if you were in charge of the SEO for this site
Hello, For the site nlpca.com How would you get them to the #2 spot for "NLP" and the #2 spot for "NLP Training" They won't do link building due to reputation in the industry. They're open to Google+ and the +1 button. They are willing to add stellar targeted authoritative content. They're adding a blog and comprehensive "What is NLP?" article. They are a "Top 5" authority in the field. Thanks.

SEO w/o Social Webinair experiment - how can RTs of a URL of a google search possibly affect the position of one of the search results?
I missed the webinair but have just been going through the slides. Looking forward to watching the video when its up. I have a question however regarding the experiment conducted by Rand to find out: Is Social Influencing Primary Algorithms (slides 7 - 20) The suggestion is that an RT of a google search URL affects the ranking of one individual ranking site. The +1 side of the experiment I understand completely - it is clear how Google can see that there is a social preference for the site and reward accordingly. But how would retweeting the search result URL possibly affect its rankings? Is the suggestion that those doing the experiment also clicked on the relevant link? And if so, how is Google discerning that this additional traffic is down to Twitter? I feel I am missing something incredibly obvious. Anyone want to help me out here?... otherwise I'm not going to sleep tonight...

Widgets like Facebook Like and AddThis - Any Negative SEO?
I could go widget crazy with my website, there are so many cool buttons and linking this and likes and etc. There's one that is used a lot, called "Addthis" that adds a series of small icons to share a page via facebook, twitter, etc. The javascript looks innocent enough, but there's a link, and who knows what google makes of it. Then there are the dozen or so Facebook widgets - are they safe to use without negative SEO consequences? Does anyone know of any other pitfalls with using the numerous addons offered free to enhance your site? Thanks for any wisdom out there! Jean
