Link credit www vs non-www?
-
I have noticed that when I run the open explorer on my website that I get a different list of linking domains depending on if the back link used www or not.
I always ask and specify to use the non-www but many people do not pay a lot of attention to that?
I have set up 301 from www to the non-www as the non-www is my primary URL. How do i get credits for the 50+ that are pointing to the www?

The 301 will give you the credit you're looking for. You can't really control how people link to you unless you're actually creating the link, so you just have to bear with it. Be sure to emphasize the non-www address when you're trying to get links so you get the full value of the link. The issue with non-www is that allot of people are accustomed to typing in a www and may ignore any suggestion you provide.

Hi Jason,
If you've implemented the 301 redirect to the non-www version of your site, then you'll get credit for links that are pointing to the www version.
Open Site Explorer uses SEOMoz's Linkscape Index to provide the data you're seeing, and it hasn't been updated since February. If you've done the 301 since then, OSE will still be showing the old data. Remember, that OSE doesn't display the real-time data for the site, it's based on the last index update.
The next update is scheduled for April 27th, so if you'll check back then you should see that all your links are now pointing to the non-www version of the site.
You can check out the Linkscape Index update schedule here.
Hope this helps.
Anthony

Effects of a bad link linking to a image
i am getting a lot of links from wallpapers sites.. One person has created 1000's of similar sites that are linking back to my images. My guess is images do not pass link value positive or negative. But I am not sure what the potential effects would be. Does anyone know who linking to images might effect SEO especially when there coming from horribly low quality auto generated sites.

Links not showing
Hi, we have been putting links to our website www.caffeinemarketing.co.uk from other sites we are connected to. Although these sites are up and running and have been crawled, the links are not showing up on mot. What else do I need to do? Is it anything to do with whether I put http://www. or just www. Please can someone advise.

Linking Root Domains www and non-www
I just ran our site through Open Site Explorer. If I run the non-www version I get 30 root domains, if I run www I get 177. Is it wise to try and contact those sites using the non-www version and ask them to update the links to www version? Will that make much of a difference?

Getting Links
Hi, Links from Directories are bad. Links for low quality sites are bad. Paid links are bad. Guest blogging is "maybe rumor has it" google's next big Penguin. Where and how is everybody getting all these great links from, is there anywhere left?? All advice welcomed as we really need good links quick! Thanks

Total Links vs Google Webmaster Site Links
I am interested why the numbers between SEOmoz and Google are so different. In SEOmoz we only show 17,000ish links from 190ish domains. In Google, we show 200,000+ links from 370 domains. Why is there such a dramatic difference?

Link to those that link to you? Worthwhile?
We have thousands and thousands of sites that link to a domain we are working on, many with low page authority and high domain (bloggers, forum posts, etc). Has anyone experimented with linking to the pages that link to you (not from your site) but from other means in an effort to boost their quality? I'm not sure what method we would use, maybe some relevant blog comments or social votes. But curious if this could be an effective method.
