Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization
-
Hi I'm a little bit confused about my on page report. I prepared 2 version of on page seo report for the same targeted keyword and the same URL, but one of the url with www. and the other without it. In the one that i entered the URL with www. the report came with warning about the "Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization" we suggest staying away from linking internally to another page with the target keyword(s) as the exact anchor text. As I see on my webpage there is no anchor text at all pointing to another internal page using the targeted keyword. I'm sure that I didn't use my targeted keyword with any link . Thanks in advance for anyone If can help or explain what is that ? If I have to write the URL and the keyword no problem for me. Thanks

I'm only seeing Google index the "www" versions at the moment, except for 1 or 2 exceptions. When you used full paths, were they identical to your canonical URLs? In other words, if Google is indexing the "www" version (which they are), the full path should be "www." Otherwise, you'd be potentially creating internal duplicates.
-
Let me clarify. On our site we use full path urls for our internal linking. The seomoz on page report has a problem with full path links because it gives you the Self-Cannibalization error. If i then change those links to relative path rather than full path there is no Self-Cannibalization error. So there is either an issue with full path internal linking or there is an issue with the on page report tool. If anyone could help that would be great. Thank you.

It looks like you've got both the "www" and non-www versions being indexed by Google, so you need to solve that problem first. You could either add canonical tags for each page or 301-redirect one version to the other. These sitewide duplicates are going to cause you problems down the road.
I think you also may be overdoing it with putting the entire 5-word name of your site at the beginning of every TITLE tag. I'd switch that to the end (except for the home-page). Put the most unique keywords up front.
Solve the www vs. non-www issue first, though. That could run you into a bunch of weird problems going forward and dilute your ranking ability.

Hi
Thanks for reply
Here is the question again because I don't understand the answer.
I prepared on page report for my site home page twice using this link:
http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimization
"www" and non-www versions
the two reports were different from each other because one of them came with warning about the "Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization" we suggest staying away from linking internally to another page with the target keyword(s) as the exact anchor text.
At this point I'm sure that I didn't use my targeted keyword with any link pointing to internal , so why this warning?
Thanks for Dr. Peter J. Meyers & Mark Apsey

Are you saying you created separate campaigns for both the "www" and non-www versions of the site here on SEOmoz (or somewhere else, like Google Webmaster Tools)? I guess the first question would be if these look like duplicates - not sure why you're reporting on them separately.

Imnotsure I understand what you are asking. I think you are creating an issue with www.yoursite.com and your site.com y the virtue of the fact that it is diving your SERP value by having two places where SEo/Link juice is attached to it. You should only have one "home page" url....redirect the other one to your home page and then sod the analysis.....
Does this help. If so show me the thumbs up!!!!!!!

Keywords used to land on specific page?
Hi all, Does anyone know if there's anywhere where I can see what keywords are used in search engines to land on a specific page? I have access to the Google Analytics account and linked it to Moz as a campaign, but I can't find this data. I'm curious about this because a very uncommon word is used in a page title for a page I try to optimize. It's the Dutch translation of 'malicious'. And now I wonder if it's better to switch to a word that's used more often. Or if it's better to 'win the battle' on this (probably) rarely used word. I've used Google trends to see how many people use it, but it says there's not enough data to show the interest over time.

Am I spamming my Keyword?
Hi All I am trying to rank my site for many key phrases but the pretty much always contain the word "Sussex" The biggy with a lot of competition is "Caterers Sussex" and similar variations when I view source on their page I find that Gastro catering's code uses "sussex" 92 times in it code. My site www.SussexChef.com uses the word "Sussex" 590 times, the competitors site mentions the word less in its code and is dominant for all my desirable key words. Am I spamming my keyword by using Sussex too often when naming my image file? Is there anything in this or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks for your help Ben

Keyword Stuffing Issues
Hi Folks, At this URL https://purplegriffon.com/courses/project-management/prince2 as an example, you can see that I am outputting all course dates in a table. Each table row contains information regarding the specific course such as start date, duration, location but also course title. In the course title it will obviously contain the keyword, in this example that is 'prince2'. So my question is this. As the MOZ on-page grader indicates that I am keyword stuffing (even though I receive an A grade) will Google be clever enough to know that I am displaying a table of events for PRINCE2? Or will it class the page as containing too many keywords? Each event links to a specific event page for that event, so is unique. I am interested in hearing the thoughts of the community on this. Thanks. Regards Gareth

How does Google Detect which keywords my website should show up for in the SE?
When I checked my Google Webmaster Tools I found that my website is showing up for keywords that I didn't optimize for ... for example I optimize my website for "funny pictures with captions", and the website is showing up for "funny images with captions". I know that this is good, but the keyword is dancing all around, sometimes I search for "funny pictures with captions" and I show up in the 7th page, and some time I don't show up. and the same goes for the other keyword. of course I am optimizing for more than two keywords but the results is not consistent. my question is how does Google decide which keywords you website should show up for? Is it the on-page keywords?, or is it the off-page anchor text keywords? Thank you in advance ...

How does a keyword get crawled and pointed at a certain page
I was wondering if you can give me some insight on how a keyword that I put on my campaign gets linked to a specific URL on my website by SEOMoz or Google. For example: updating a brick fireplace is my keyword. On the campaign when I am looking at my on page optimization, the URL assigned (or given) to it is my homepage. How is this determined and is there a way around it and or directing it to the correct page? Thanks

Keyword optimization of main keyword across site.
My site is optimized for keyword "payment gateway" but it seems for each keyword only one page should be optimized as per good SEO. So if I've a page about Paypal then how should I spread the keywords? Here the main will be Paypal and site keyword will be payment gateway. It means site should have more Paypal than payment gateway. But can payment gateway be in 3rd or 4th position in density? Similarly how should I create other pages? How search engines determine the site authority based on keyword? ( let us ignore the external backlinks, context of them and anchor texts).

Keyword rich domains - Which are the best domain extensions for ranking in the UK other than .com or .co.uk
Hey there, In the absence of getting a keyword rich .com or .co.uk domain am wondering how influential .info, .org, .net domains (or any others) are in comparison? Does anyone have any comparison info to share please?
