Price Range: Top Notch Keyword Research

How many years would someone need to have to be experienced enough to provide a thorough job of providing me with keyword research? I am willing to pay for the best job but I don't want to be taken to the cleaners...especially by someone that may not be giving me the best effort or that is not qualified. ( I was just quoted $200 an hour from an 18 yr old today)
We are getting ready to change our URL's and add keywords but I am not sure which terms to add and in what order. I have heard put the most important words first but I am not sure which are the most important. By my research we only have about 5 keywords but I am not sure. (Excluding long tail)

Thanks Nakul.....I will give those tools a test run.
-
Yep......thanks EGOL........I also feel it should be a collaborative endeavor. Our team will be able to give them some good insight in our niche and then hopefully their keyword research expertise can bring home the best results.
-
Thanks Phil....I will use this advice! I had one offer for exactly the scenario you mentioned.
-
I agree with Phil.... the number of years means nothing.
You want somebody SMART.... and who knows the language of the business. This is especially true if you are in a technical niche such as specialty chemistry or physics where search volumes are near zero and tools are near useless - but transactions can be $xx,xxx or more.
Sometimes the receptionist who answers the phone can teach an SEO a lot about keywords. That person takes all of the phone calls where people ask.... "duh.... do you sell those bugtussle nimrods?"

I agree. I would plug those starting point / core keywords into Google Keywords Tool and/or SEMRush and see what you get. Somebody well versed with the industry is helpful but so is someone completely unknown to the industry. Sometimes we call certain things in a certain way, but that's now how majority of the people on the web search.
As Phil said, I would not worry about the age. I would find a subject matter expert, I am sure there are tons of people available on SEOMoz who do freelance. Just see if someone is available, do a small test project and take it from there. If that does not work, sites like Odesk.com have plenty of providers, but then tons of them are offshore. So everything has it's pros and cons.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's as simple as qualifying folks by their years of experience. There will be some brilliant SEOs with only one year of experience, and some awful SEOs with 10 years of experience. The same goes for just about every industry.
I'd recommend having someone do this job on a contract basis. For example, have them send you a keyword research report for $500. Then, if you love the report, you might look into signing them up for an hourly contract to keep doing your SEO going forward, or set them up with a monthly retainer. This way if you find someone great you can have them do more work for you, and if you find a "stinker" then you're only out a few hundred bucks.

How to track keywords for cities right next to each other?
Should I track the same keywords for multiple cities that are right next to each other (there's about 10 cities in a 30 mile radius that the business services)? Or if the website ranks for a keyword in one city, will it automatically rank the same way in the city right next to it?

Should I serve images from the same Top level domain as the current domain?
We run a multidomain e-commerce website that targets each country respectively: .be -> Belgium .co.uk -> United Kingdom etc... .com for all other countries We also serve our product images via a media subdomain eg. "media.ourdomain.be/image.jpg"
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | jef2220
This means that all TLD's contain the images of the .be media subdomain. Which is acually seen as an outbound link. We are considering to change this setup so that it serves the images from the same domain as the current TLD, which would make more sense: .be will serve images from media.ourdomain.be .co.uk -> media.ourdomain.co.uk etc.. My question is: Does google image search take the extension of the TLD into consideration? So that for example German users will be more likely to see an image that is served on a .de domain?0 -
Keyphrase / Keyword arrangement
Hi all, What are your thoughts on the arrangement of keyphrases / words? For example, does it make a difference if the words are arranged in the following way: "Keyword 1 Keyword 2" or "Keyword 2 Keyword 1" Both ways make a phrases which is favourable in the search engines. Can I stick with 1 way or should I be going with both arrangements. Hope that is clear 🙂

Lost Google rankings for the main keywords
Hello everybody, I love seomoz and was enjoying all the benefits it has, was reading Q&A and implementing new marketing strategies for my website. I would really appreciate if anyone could explain my situation. The website, to which I devoted last 12 months of my time, was suddenly dropped from it's main keywords to nowhere 2 days ago, it does not look like a "dance" because some of my competitors lost their rankings too. I think its a penalty. The site http://goo.gl/3VTMq is almost 2 years old, of the highest quality content. I've been adding content slowly over 24 months, building backlinks slowly, the rankings also were going up slowly. Here are some of the keywords I've been ranking for: car insurance companies - 12, best auto insurance companies - 1, top car insurance companies 1, cheap auto insurance - 16, low cost auto insurance 4,lowest auto insurance - 2, and many more... According to seomoz, I have no major problems with on-site seo, I have low bounce rate, high pages/visit and high time on site. There is only one left - incoming backlinks. Google says that it just can't hurt you, but I think this is the only explanation of my problem. My backlinks consist of everything - from high quality contextual backlinks, to lower quality comment backlinks. I used Press Release services too.. This problem is like a nail in my head, I look forward to hearing your response. Thanks in advance, Vaz

Keyword Ranking Question
I have recently hired a SEO company to help with our keyword. My question is what are the best tools to use to verify what that are reporting. I can do an unpersonalized search, but I am likely still getting the my local results. I have been using the SEOmoz rank tracker in the past but for some reason it is not able to retrieve results over the past day or so. Are there any other good tools to check ranking for an exact url at the for non-localized, non personalized results? Thanks for the suggestions.
