How worth it is it to pursue websites who steal your content via cease/desist or DMCA takedown?
-
We publish popular general interest content. Using a commercial scanning service, we've found our copied content in many places.
Is there an SEO value in getting copied content removed from websites who infringe / copy our content? It is a time consuming process and many infringements.
And.... what if they copy the content, but include original links to our site in the content. Ironically, this is actually generating links for us - does this affect the answer?
-
I'd generally agree - it's usually not going to be worth the time/effort/money, AND the links could actually be helping you. One caveat, though - IF a scraper is outranking you (and it does happen), that's a much different story. The low-quality copies will just get filtered out, but I'd definitely monitor your ranking for new stories and make sure someone else isn't using your content to beat you on your own search terms. That's a much different situation.

Wow! That is cool. I already have about 50 other sites taking my data and re-posting it on their sites.......as soon as I put up an rss feed in the next couple months I will do this...sounds like great advice!
-
Make sure in your rss feeds you have your link/anchor text back to your site. That anyone copying your feeds is inadvertently giving you a link to the original source.
-
Not worth tracking it down and enforcing because google knows its duplicate content and if it is your oriiginal content then they know you created it first. KUDOS to you.
This is like selling life insurance and they are trying to scare you that you are going to die.......Here is a company that is promoting a service to track down the copy....notice how they never talk about how it will hurt your seo....they just make the blanket statement that you should enforce it and the steps you should take......if it isn't effecting your SEO value then stay away....

Don't waste your time if it isn't effecting your seo. If you are getting back links then ride the wave....more link juice for you.
Hope this helps create some clarity.

SEO Class/Course/Certification
Hello, I'm located in the US and I'm looking for **good **SEO classes or courses. Something that provides certification when completed, if possible. This is something that my employer wants to do. I know MOZ offers a lot of information here and has a course as well, but I'm looking for something that is in person. I tend to learn better that way. I see some things pop up when I search, but I believe most of it is just junk. I am looking for something that would basically go from intermediate to advanced. Thank you!

Is This Worth Fixing?
Hi, I'm working on a site that was last optimized some years ago. It has a fair number of pages that the url, h1, title tag and image alt exact match. Although this comes back as A+ in Moz's on page grader, it seems a bit much. What do you think, is all this too heavy an SEO fingerprint for Google?

Can a website be punished by panda if content scrapers have duplicated content?
I've noticed recently that a number of content scrapers are linking to one of our websites and have the duplicate content on their web pages. Can content scrapers affect the original website's ranking? I'm concerned that having duplicated content, even if hosted by scrapers, could be a bad signal to Google. What are the best ways to prevent this happening? I'd really appreciate any help as I can't find the answer online!

Ajax website and SEO
Hi all, A client of mine has a website similar to Pintrest. All in Ajax/. So imagine an ajax-grid based animal lover site called domain.com. The domain has three different Categories Cats, Dogs, Mice. When you click on a category, the site doesn't handle the URL and doesn't change the domain So instead of the domain going from domain.com to domain.com/cats, it uses the Ajax script and just shows all the cat pins. and when you click on each pin/post it opens a page such as domain.com/Pin/123/PostTitle It doesn't reference the category. However a page domain.com/cats does exist and you can go there directly. Is this an SEO issue for not grouping all pins under a category? How does Google handle Ajax these days, it use to be real bad but if Pintrest is going so well i'm assuming times have changed? Any other things to be wary of for a grid based/ajax site? I am happy to pay for an hour or two for a more in depth audit/tips if you can feed back on the above. Fairly urgent. Thanks

Duplicate Content on Wordpress b/c of Pagination
On my recent crawl, there were a great many duplicate content penalties. The site is http://dailyfantasybaseball.org. The issue is: There's only one post per page. Therefore, because of wordpress's (or genesis's) pagination, a page gets created for every post, thereby leaving basically every piece of content i write as a duplicate. I feel like the engines should be smart enough to figure out what's going on, but if not, I will get hammered. What should I do moving forward? Thanks!

Website Is In Tables
Our website www.accupos.com is mainly created with TABLES, which I've heard is a practice from Neanderthal times. Nevertheless, it is my job as the new Dir. of Marketing to SEO the hell out of it. Would you recommend converting the ENTIRE website into Divs or changing the current Tables situation? Or is this not a big deal for SEO? The site APPEARS fine, but I want to get our keywords ranked as well as possible, putting my time in the most efficient places (like link building!). How much of a high priority might this Tables fix be? We are also running an AdWords campaign spending LOTS every month. Please Moz me! Derek

What are the different tactics for getting ranked/ included in Google finance searches such as http://www.google.com/finance/company_news?q=NASDAQ:ADBE
I don't know what ranking factors they are using for this feed. The results vary greatly from a search done at google.com or google.com/news and google.com/finance I'm working with a website that regularly publishes finance-related news and currently gets traffic from google finance. I'm wondering what we can do to optimize our news articles to possibly show more prominently or more often. Thanks
