Meta Data definition for multiple pages. Potential duplicate content risk?
-
Hi all,
One of our clients needs to redefine their meta title and description tags. They publish very similar information almost every day, so the structure they propose is the following:
Structure 1:
Type of Analysis + periodicity + data + brand name
Examples 1:
Monthly Market Analysis, 1/5/2012 - Brand Name
Weekly Technical Analysis, 7/5/2012 - Brand Name
Structure 2:
Company Name + investment recommendation + periodicity
Example 2:
Iberdrola + investment recommendation (this text doesn't vary) + 2T12 (wich means 2012, 2nd trimestrer)
Regarding meta description they want to follow a similar approach, replicating every time the same info with a slight variation for each publication.
I'm afraid this may cause a duplicate content problem because of the resemblance of every "Market Analysis" done or every "Investment recommendation" done in the future.
My initial suggestion for them is to define specific and unique meta data for each page, but this is not possible for them given the time it takes to do it for every page.
Finally, I ask them to specify the data in each meta title of content published, in order to add something different each time and avoid duplicate content penalty.
Will this be enough to avoid duplicate content issues?
Thanks in advance for your help folks!
Alex

Thanks for your feedback! I will bears those in mind
I meant page title and description, and unfortunately, defining unique content for these fields is not an option.
Community, do you think Google will penalize the site (duplicate content penalty) if the only difference between snippets is the publication content data?
Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to point out that unless the pages are trying to rank for the company name, I wouldn't lead in with this (Target Keyword first and company name last is best practice).
Also, I would probably analyse the need for keywords such as 2T12 when the search volume is so low for that specific example.
By meta data; are you referring to the page title and/or description?
For the former I would definitely take the time (which is a pain) to write individual titles per page to avoid duplicate content issues.
For the latter, I wouldn't worry too much but would make sure it has the relevant sales pitch per page.

More Singular KW Targeted Landing Pages vs. Less Multiple KW Targeted Landing Pages
So my question is... I have a adopted a site which currently ranks quite well for some industry competitive keywords with a number of poor quality landing pages which specifically target a singular keyword. I am wondering if its worth merging some of these pages together into one authoritative, better quality landing page targeting multiple keywords (as the intent for some of these keywords are largely the same). What i don't want to do is jeopardise the existing rankings in doing so. The alternative option would just be to improve the content on the existing landing pages without merging. What are peoples thoughts on this? Are there any positive case studies out there where merging has had a positive effect? Any help would be great. Regards,

Do permanent redirect solve the issue of duplicate content?
Hi, I have a product page on my site as below. www.mysite.com/Main-category/SubCatagory/product-page.html This page was accessible in both ways as below. 1. www.mysite.com/Main-category/SubCatagory/product-page.html 2. www.mysite.com/Main-category/product-page.html This was causing duplicate title issue. So i permanently redirected one to other. But after more than a month and after many crawls, webmaster tools html improvement still shows duplicate title issue. My question is that do permanent redirect solve duplicate content issue or something i am missing here?

Duplicate content because of member only restrictions on a forum.
Our website's Community Forum links to the membership profile pages, which by default are blocked for non-members. https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/ https://www.foodbloggerpro.com/community/member/1301/ We're getting warnings in Moz for duplicate content (and errors) on these member profile pages. Any ideas for how we can creatively solve this problem? Should we redirect those pages or just beef them up with more content? Just ignore it and assume that search spiders will be smart enough to figure it out? See attached video for further explanation. Community_Area.mp4

Avoid Multiple Page Title Elements...
Hi guys i'm just going trough some pages with the seomoz one page optimization tool. As one of the "easy fix" suggestions it says: "Avoid Multiple Page Title Elements" "Explanation: Web pages are meant to have a single title, and for both accessibility and search engine optimization reasons, we strongly recommend following this practice.Recommendation: Remove all but a single page title element." By single element does it mean 1 single word? Is that realistic?

tagged as duplicate content?
Hello folks, I'm new to SEOmoz . I was looking at our Crawl Diagnostics and found that some of our blog posts that have been commented on were tagged as duplicate content. For example: http://thankyouregistry.com/blog/remarriages-and-gift-registries/ http://thankyouregistry.com/blog/remarriages-and-gift-registries/comment-page-1/ I'm unsure how to fix these, so any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Is duplicate content harmful? Example from on my site
I'm not talking about content copied from another site but content unique to a site being used on several pages. I have a delivery tab that has precisely the same content as another product page. This content is on four product pages and the dedicated delivery page. Thanks
