Adding a picture page - Good or Bad?
-
I have a lot of cool pics that just did not quite make it on one of my pages. Not necessarily because I did not want to, but space reasons they just happened to lose out to another photo. What I was thinking was, maybe I can add like a gallery page? Possibly with links back to the pages that each photo was considered for? Would this be a decent idea or just a page deemed as having low quality/value and end up hurting my site. Or maybe you can add an idea that may make it work for me!
-
There are a few reasons. If you look at the rest of the pages from my site, the company I sell for also sells lots of other products that have "celebrity" trainers, plus there are some fun pics of TV placement spots. Lots of "fun stuff" that I'd like to add that just didn't happen to work on a product page. Plus, it would give me more material to Pin on Pinterest to help drive traffic.
I guess my real question is... From a strictly SEO aspect, would it be detrimental to my site to have a Gallery page with links back to some of my other pages?

Certainly doesn't hurt to have multiple product images, if that is applicable. I just don't see a good way to make a gallery work for your type of site. But there maybe......

Incorporating them into the blog is a good idea. The blog subdomain was sort of an after thought attachment to the static site that I really need to utilize better. I was really just think like a gallery page on the site.

Hi Veeters,
I'm not sure where you're thinking of adding pictures, but in general the best blogs, and content sites do a good job of including images inside content articles.
For example if you read any of the SeoMoz blog post you'll notice a very good mix of text and images, search engines not only like this, but users don't much care to be hit with a big ole wall of text. Images help keep people interested and also gives the post a good overall look.
You maybe able to integrate your unused images in some of your content (I noticed a few pages that were very text heavy example: http://blog.shakes4life.com/), if the images are to large you can thumbnail them and use something like LightBox, or ZoomView so users can get a larger view. Using images in this way will also give you opportunities to add alt text to further emphasize some of your content.
Lastly, it wouldn't make since to add images to a page that isn't go to rank for anything, what will happen is people will just steal your images and use them on their pages with content to out rank you.
Hope it helps,

Pages and categories with the same name?
I manage a wordpress based site that is needing to under go a site architecture overhaul. the site is christ.org and one of the problems is it has 89 pages but really only 4 are navigatable (not a word apparently). The site also has over 400 posts so categories and parent pages are both definitely needed. One option is I convert a lot of the pages into posts, but would that happen to break any links pointing to those pages turned posts? Or another option is to keep the pages and posts and create a bunch of subpages, then I would most likely end up with similarly named categories and top level pages. I would guess the name of the category needs to be unique from page titles right? And not just unique but very much differentiated than any page title (not posts but page titles). Maybe what I need to do is convert the pages that are not really unique into posts and put them in the category it fits with. And then keep those that are unique as top level pages. The architecture needs some serious work I think 🙂 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Google Slower to Trust New Pages than One Year Ago?
It seems to me that Google is slower to trust (and rank) new pages today than in the past. I used to be able to put up a new page and it would go right to the top of a competitive SERP. For about the past year when I launch a new page it starts deep in the SERPs, sits there for a few weeks, then starts slowly moving up. These pages still eventually rank on the first page of Google - often at #1 or #2 after wikipedia or another strong site - but it can take a few months to get there, several months in a competitive SERP. These are not "hot news" topics where freshness is an important factor. Instead they are product pages or general information articles. Anybody else seeing this? [ Just stabbing in the dark here... I am wondering if Google is relying more on visitor behavior these days and the delay is while they collect data?... Just stabbing in the dark.]

Content Architecture - Breakout Pages
If you have a page that summarizes four different product types adequately in a chart that requires no scroll, is there an SEO justification to also breaking out each product into a separate page, but basically it would contain the same information? The SEO in me says yes, because that's more crawlable content you can optimize, but wouldn't it go against usability and general common sense?

Anyone good at ranking on Yahoo?
I don't get Yahoo or Bing these days! I wrote a story "Did David Wineland and Serge Haroche Steal Idea For The Nobel Physics Prize?" It is a unique story, sourced from a prince. It is referenced on many other sites. It has had about 115,000 pageviews so far. most of those people read 2 or 3 pages. Do Yahoo or Bing list my story? No. They list all the referencing sites, they even list unrelated stories on my site that show that headline in the "top ten stories of the day" widget, but not the story itself. It has about 1250 shares. What am I doing wrong? http://buff.ly/WXso4P Is it page structure?

Google RSS Feed News Feed To Inner Pages
Ive been working on a large ecommerce website that has thousands of pages, although we are working on adding custom content daily to the largest pages, we have "defaul content" with dynamic tags matching search query. Someone recommend we add a google Rss feed where they can also add some type of tag. Is this a bad idea? Ive asked in the past but my main concern is issue with duplicate content, It would be next to impossible to have all pages filled with custom content. Any help much appreciated!! Thank you!

Does a Google Map on the contact page help with SEO?
In regards to ranking organically for local search results (not google places), I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a Google Map on my Contact page with our location pinned? If so, how important do you think it is?
